Lornoxicam is commonly used as the first-line treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and spondylitis. However, its low solubility in biological fluids leads to poor absorption of the drug. To address this issue, the present research work had been explored the use of microwave-assisted eco-friendly solid dispersion techniques to enhance its solubility. Response surface methodology and artificial neural network approaches were employed to optimize the process and product parameters. Poloxamer-407 was selected as the hydrophilic carrier for preparing the solid dispersion. The solid-state characterization of the solid dispersion and physical mixture was evaluated utilizing Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. In-vitro dissolution studies were conducted in 6.8 phosphate buffer. Microwave power and treatment time were chosen as independent variables, while the % of drug release at 15 and 45 min was chosen as dependent variables. The factors and their responses were analyzed using an artificial neural network and response surface methodology techniques. The dissolution phase solubility study showed the highest solubility at a 1:2 ratio of Lornoxicam to Poloxamer 407. The optimized batch presented 59.90, 88.85, and 97.33% cumulative drug release at 15, 45, and 60 min, respectively. The central composite design was used to describe the relationship between microwave power, microwave treatment time, and the percentage of drug release. Both artificial neural network and central composite design approaches proved to be powerful tools for the systematic development of microwave solid dispersion. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Laser beam machining is a complex thermal process of material removal. In this process, thermal energy is used to vaporize and remove the material from a particular area. Hence a comprehensive study is needed to completely understand the process which can be achieved by a simulation model and its validation through experimentation. In this paper this was achieved with an experimental study to see the relation between the Laser power and the material removal rate (MRR) of SS 316 L, Inconel 718 and Ti6Al4V during the process of Laser Machining. Also a 3D transient model of a moving Gaussian heat source was developed in ANSYS 18.2 to predict the MRR for different values of laser power. Mesh sensitivity analysis was done prior to the usage of the model so as to choose the perfect mesh size which can give the best results possible. After validation of the model, a close correlation was found between the experimental data and the simulation results. In the simulation model it was also observed that the temperature is maximum at the point of contact of the laser and is comparatively very high for a fraction of second. © Content from this work may be used under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence.

Sustainable development is linked with the preservation and revealing of cultural heritage via practices of adaptive reuse. Adaptive reuse of cultural assets could provide various benefits to the local communities: environmental, economic and social. An important goal of these practices is the attraction of external economies in order to ensure the financial viability of monuments but also to succeed the prosperity of the residents. This study is focused in Kythera, a Greek isolated island. Information collected by local archives, communication with local bodies and in situ observations were combined with spatial data about the island's settlements, road and trail network and cultural reserve. This process permitted the creation of thematic maps that led to the configuration of Kythera's potentials and threats. Thus, the proposal scheme focuses on the abandoned neighborhood, Mavrogiorgianika of Karavas, a traditional settlement in the less prominent northern part of Kythera. The proposal suggests the restoration and reuse of the abandoned housing stock as agro tourism facilities in the context of a comprehensive circular economy program. The aim of the proposal scheme is to promote the natural environment, local products and local agricultural practices, with the active participation of residents and agricultural cooperatives of the island. The proposal of the rehabilitation of the neighborhood is combined with the reuse of the old agricultural school in the village, the watermills and the developed network of trails on the island.

According to the development trend of electric frontier field and the requirement for construction of new engineering, the construction and application of simulation experimental platform under new electric system are studied. The construction scheme of new engineering experimental platform of electric system, which takes the real-time simulator of electric information as the core, is put forward to connect all links of demand analysis, system design, mirror simulation and product definition, train and cultivate the students' ability of project development, and organize the fragmented knowledge of multiple courses. The whole process of model building, off-line simulation, real-time simulation and semi physical simulation is studied based on the teaching case of smart micro-grid project. It is proved in the teaching practice that the platform can support the experimental teaching mode of new engineering, which is of great significance to cultivate students' large engineering view, engineering thinking and innovative quality, and is a beneficial exploration for the construction of new electric engineering under the background of new power system. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Electric motors are industrial systems' components widely diffused enabling all productive processes and safety equipment. They are affected by aging effect with a contribution based on the environmental condition on which they work. In order to design efficient maintenance plans, the behaviour of their main components, such as bearings and winding, has to be predicted. Therefore, a model-based methodology is applied aiming at codifying the failure rate of an electric engine, taking into account the thermal aging and relevant environment boundary conditions in which bearings and winding operate. The winding failure mode is coded by means of the Military standard technique while the bearings one is simulated comparing the Military Standard and the Svenska Kullagerfabriken (SKF) techniques. While the former predicts more conservative behaviours, the latter, taking into account lubrication conditions, dynamic loads and a better knowledge of materials quality, enables to capture the evolution of the operative conditions. The proposed reliability model can capture both the deterministic and stochastic behaviour of the electric motor: it belongs to the field of hybrid automaton application;the model is coded by means of the emerging software framework called SHYFTOO. The proposed model and the Monte Carlo simulation process that performs its evolution can support the development of a new class of electric motors: a cyber-physical oriented electric motor. Aiming at the Multi-Point Relay (MPR) algorithm of the traditional Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR), the weight factor of the multi-criterion MPR algorithm depends on the subjective choice and the premise is that the criteria are independent of each other. The Analytic Network process (ANP) was used to analyze the correlation between the three criteria and the number of nodes, the number of packets and the node speed. In view of the fact that the traditional MPR algorithm does not consider the influence of node energy and inter-node connection stability on the selection of MPR nodes, and the traditional OLSR protocol does not consider the high packet loss ratio caused by packet congestion, the remaining energy, node connection time and buffer occupancy of the nodes are selected to optimize the selection of MPR nodes. The OPNET simulation verifies that the proposed method can effectively achieve low latency and packet loss rate for the corresponding scenarios.

In the paper, one of the possible practical applications of the genetic algorithm is considered. The application is associated with the optimization of the onboard navigation system placement on a moving object, taking into account the effect of vibration. This problem is relevant for improving the accuracy of the automatic motion control of the launch vehicles, ground vehicles, and helicopters. The corresponding mathematical models and optimization techniques, based on the computer simulation of the dynamic processes, have been developed. The main results of approbation are presented. © 2021 IEEE.

A novel technique to fabricate a responsive radio communication jammer, the purpose of which is to suppress a radio signal with a detonation code as well as to interfere communication link due to Denial-of-Service effect is proposed and highlighted. The distinctive feature of our approach is to the process received radio signals, when instead of the operation of introducing noise interference into each radio channel exclusively used in existing multi-channel jammers, a common single-channel device with optoelectronic processor is exploited, which generates many replicas of received radio signal that critically degrade its signal-to interference ratio so that the remote-controlled detonators of the explosive installed at the objects cannot be triggered. The results of our investigations to computer-aided design a response time performance of the proposed jammer using a co-simulation of specialized optoelectronic computer tool VPI Photonics Design Suite and a versatile Matlab software. The layout and results of proof-of-concept experiment that validate the simulation are presented and discussed. (C) 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
