Pseudo Noise (PN) code is one of the most well-known codes for spreading and secure information in Wireless Communication Systems (WCS) and recently for estimating the carrier and the frame timing information for advanced multipath resistive OFDM systems. Synchronization, with its two steps (acquisition and tracking), is a challenging task for such Multiple Access Systems (MAS). In this paper a Novel Fast Clocking Acquisition Synchronizer (NFCAS) which is based on parallel code phases comparison is designed, modeled, simulated and practically implemented using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). In the proposed synchronizer a fast clock is introduced to speed up the synchronization process. The synchronizer shows a very fast, reliable and direct synchronization in one step rather than two steps. Also the simulation and practical results show a perfect consistency for codes synchronization time which is inversely proportional to the ratio between the introduced fast acquisition clock and the common (transmitter/receiver) traditional slow clock. © 2019 IEEE.

Working with an electric arc plasmatron, the technological process provides for the ignition of an electric arc. To simplify and accelerate the process of an electric arc ignition in a direct current electric arc plasmatron, a circuit solution based on a high-voltage electronic ignition system with an independent power source is proposed. The proposed scheme allows the formation of high-voltage high-frequency pulses in the arc interval. The proposed electrical complex provides reliable ignition and maintenance of stable combustion in all possible modes of operation of the electric arc plasmatron. Various ignition systems, an electric arc in an atmospheric environment are considered, as well as using plasma-forming gases.

Nowadays, the electricity grid from the customer side is getting more complex. Number of customers with photovoltaic (PV) generation, plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs), and stationary battery energy storage system (BESS), referred here as Nano-Grid or n-Grid are increasing. With proper economic incentives and control mechanisms, the n-Grid may be used to ensure grid reliability and resilience if engaged in energy exchange with other n-Grids or the main grid. Such energy exchange framework is called transactive energy. The complexity and variety of the component integration and operation make n-Grid involvement in the transactive energy framework challenging. In this paper, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation framework is introduced to provide solutions for some of the issues of power system and power electronics co-simulation that represent the backbone for the transactive energy exchange. Since grid decision making process has conspicuously different time constant in comparison with power inverters' switching frequency, including both in a simulation framework is challenging. A simulation framework in which PV generation and BESS are integrated to the n-Grid with power inverters is elaborated in this paper. Finally, a hardware-in-the-loop testbed implementation is discussed. © 2019 IEEE.

Sparse code multiple access (SCMA) is a promising type of non-orthogonal multiple access technology which has the characteristic of improving the system spectrum efficiency. Device to device (D2D) underlaid cellular system is a prospective network structure that allows spectrum resources reusing. Therefore, the combination of D2D with SCMA will play a crucial role in the future wireless communication networks. Research on the combination of D2D with SCMA is limited, especially in terms of resource allocation. Consequently, we consider an uplink multi-cell SCMA based D2D underlaid cellular system aiming to optimize the system throughput. A novel Mode selection and User Preference Matching (MUPM) algorithm based on matching theory is proposed. First, each user finds a suitable communication mode through mode selection, and then the sharing of SCMA codebooks is formulated as a two-sided matching problem. simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MUPM algorithm has about 50% throughput gain compared with Random Allocation (RA) and about 30% throughput gain compared with Greedy Selection (GS). Furthermore, the MUPM is superior to GS with respect to user fairness by considering user preference in the codebook sharing process. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper presents a moving object detection method against sudden illumination change using improved background modeling. Initially, background model is created for every pixel from the first frame. The sample values for the model of a pixel are collected from the neighborhood of that pixel. Then the new pixel values from the new frames are compared to make background foreground decision. Conventional background modeling faces problem with change in the illumination of the scene. The proposed method frequently checks whether abrupt change of illumination take place or not and then initialize the background model from the frame that is detected with changed illumination. The illumination change is detected by obtaining the images of two frames that are taken at a suitable interval in HSV color space. Then the mean change value of each channel is calculated to make a decision. This enables the background model to start over with new sample values that are obtained in the current illumination condition and the background subtraction process can successfully detect moving object with greater accuracy even in changing illumination condition. simulation results indicate that the proposed method gives excellent results in illumination changing condition to detect moving object whereas the conventional background modeling can not detect accurately. Comparison analysis shows that our proposed method outperforms recent methods in terms of detection accuracy. © 2019 IEEE.

We present the results of a 3D modeling of the laser powder bed fusion process on the mesoscale level with an advanced multiphysical numerical tool. High-performance simulation allowed to conduct a vast parametric study. Thus, the model has been extensively verified against experimental results in a large parameter range, and, further, it has been used to construct detailed process maps in the range not covered by the available experimental data. The analysis of the results that were obtained in the model along with the data in the published research allowed to propose the quantitative criteria for determining the behavior of the track formation. The key phenomena that affect this behavior have been studied. We conclude that the productivity limit that arises with the proportional increase in scanning speed and laser beam power is caused by the spatter ejection. The sensitivity analysis shows that the transition to the spattering regime is caused by the overheating of the meltpool surface layer, and, consequently, the development of the surface instability. The instability development is assumed to be due to the fact that the recoil pressure becomes much higher in comparison with the surface tension.

Managing student attendance is a repetitive and time-consuming task for both teachers and school administrators. For this reason, we thought of automating this task by deploying the recent advances of machine learning. In this article, we propose an attendance management system based on facial detection and recognition. The classroom is continuously photographed using a camera. An in-depth analysis is applied to the captured images to detect and extract the facial features of the students. Next, a pattern recognition model predicts their identities. The results of the experiment validate the proposed architecture. The process of marking the students' attendance is maintained without any human intervention.

Due to simpler fabrication process and low temperature processability beneficial for flexible and tandem structures, planar architectures (n-i-p and p-i-n) are gaining popularity in organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite solar cell (PSC) research fields. For p-i-n or inverted planar cells, mostly studied charge transport materials are organic, which suffer from poor conductivity, poor chemical stability and higher processing cost. This is leading towards growing interest of using solution processed inorganic metal oxide transport layers which can easily overcome the shortcomings of organic counterparts upto certain extent. In this work, a simple but comprehensive ID simulation based study of inverted planar PSC is presented using all-metal oxide transport layers. Three different electron transport materials (ETM), TiO2 (most popular for mesoscopic and n-i-p structures), ZnO and SnO2 are comparatively studied for the same hole transport material (HTM), NiOx in Methyl Ammonium Lead Iodide, CH3NH3PbI3 based PSC structure. Detailed analysis are performed for open circuit voltage (Voc), short circuit current (JSC), fill factor (FF) and power conversion efficiency (PCE) considering the variation of perovskite layer thickness, bulk defect densities and ETM-perovskite interface states. It is found that, cells with ZnO show better PCE and Jsc for almost all situations because of having higher carrier mobility and optical absorption, whereas owing to better band alignment, SnO2 based cells provide enhanced Voc, FF and more robustness to the interface state variations. Thus this work provides a thorough investigation of the interfacial layer properties on the performance of inverted planar PSC in all metal oxide inorganic transport layer environment. © 2019 IEEE.
