In this paper, back-propagation (BP) neural network model is introduced and established. This work describes the application of the BP artificial neural network model for the purpose of predicting the polyester/cotton yam hairiness. This approach has been developed and evaluated with the use of multiple sets of data, comprising of a range of processing parameters. The yarn hairiness of ring spinning is strongly related to the processing parameters. However, it is difficult to establish physical models on the relationship between the processing parameters and the yam hairiness. Due to the artificial neural network can fully approximate any complex nonlinear system and study dynamic behavior of any serious undetermined system. It has a highly parallel calculation ability, strong robustness and fault tolerance. So using the artificial neural network to predict the polyester/cotton yam hairiness of ring spinning is a very effective way. The experimental results and corresponding analysis show that the BP neural network model is an efficient technique for the yam hairiness of ring spinning prediction and has wide prospect in the application of ring spinning yam production system.

The JEM-EUSO space observatory will be launched and attached to the Japanese module of the international Space Station (ISS) in 2016. Its aims is to observe UV photon tracks produced by Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) and Extremely High Energy Cosmic Rays (EHECR) developing in the atmosphere and producing Extensive Air Showers (EAS). JEM- EUSO will use our atmosphere as a huge calorimeter, to detect the electromagnetic and hadronic components of the EAS. For High Energy Physic (HEP) experiments the huge amount of data and complex analysis algorithms require the use of advanced GRID computational resources. Therefore a complete infrastructure is needed for the simulation and data analysis, in the frame of the GRID architecture, and computing infrastructure, intended for the JEM-EUSO space mission software. Moreover solutions to account for a complete installed cluster system, with the software and data repositories, as well as a many other details are pointed out. © 2012 IEEE.

The efficient realization of self-organizing systems based on 2D stencil code applications, like our developed Marching Pixel algorithms, is a great challenge. They are data-intensive and also computational-intensive, because often a high number of iterations is required. FPGAs are predestined for the realization of these algorithms. They are very flexible, allow a scalable parallel processing and have a moderate power consumption, even in high-performance versions. Therefore, FPGAs are highly qualified to make these applications also real-time capable. Our goal was to implement an efficient parameterizable buffering and parallel processing scheme for such operations in FPGAs, to process them as fast as possible. We developed a generic VHDL template which allows a scalable parallelization and pipelining of 2D stencil code applications in relation to application and hardware constraints. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper proposes an efficient GPU based parallel algorithm image reconstruction. It has been implemented on a system having a general purpose graphical processing unit (GPU), Nvidia graphics card GTX-275. Experimental results reveal that an image of size 256 × 256 with 90 projections can be reconstructed in real time with single iteration. The results enable us to use MART algorithm for online applications.

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) involve deep interactions between computation cores, communication networks, and physical environments. These systems are inherently complex and highly nondeterministic. This makes the traditional formal verification technology impractical to verify the complete system behavior, and testing alone is insufficient to guarantee correctness. Runtime monitoring, known as a lightweight verification technique, provides a practical way to monitor and verify such systems at runtime. In this paper, we present a case study for runtime monitoring of the Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control systems (CACC) in automobile CPS systems. We build a hybrid automaton-based model for the CACC system using the CHARON modeling language and construct an event-based runtime monitoring framework. The synthesized monitor observes the running of CACC and checks whether it works correctly against the temporal logic safety specification. Experimental results obtained through this case study provide evidence for the efficacy of runtime monitoring of CPS systems. © 2012 IEEE.

In multi-channel wireless mesh networks (WMNs), it is significantly important to achieve efficient channel utilization. The channel assignment problem, which investigates how to seek a proper mapping between available channels and network interface cards (NICs) on mesh routers (MRs), is attracting more and more attention from the research community. However, most proposed channel assignment approaches assume that NICs are evenly placed on the MRs, and its amount is also pre-determined. Due to the non-uniform distribution of WMN traffic, the equal interface placement will inevitably cause that the bottleneck MRs suffer from NIC shortage, and MRs with less load only have a low utilization of NICs. Hence, in order to improve network performance and reduce network cost, interface placement should be considered carefully in the process of planning a WMN. In this paper, we investigate the joint interface placement and channel assignment problem, i.e., how to appropriately place NICs on MRs and assign channels to them. We first formulate the problem as a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model, which aims to minimize the total number of NICs while satisfying logical link, link bandwidth, link interference and traffic demand constraints. Then, we propose an MILP-based heuristic algorithm, using iterated local search to obtain sub-optimal solutions efficiently. Finally, we conduct simulation experiments to compare the heuristic solutions with the optimal solutions, and the results show that our proposed heuristic algorithm can achieve good sub-optimal solutions. Moreover, the simulation results also demonstrate that the algorithm can be well applied in large-scale WMNs where the optimal solutions cannot be obtained, and can perform well under different traffic demands. © 2012 IEEE.

The development of General Purpose GPUs (GPGPU) provides multiple cores of computing power and high memory bandwidth that can meet the high performance requirements of researchers in diverse areas such as weather forecasting, bioinformatics, and even nuclear simulation. In this work we present a Heterogeneous GPU computing system (HG) which can utilize GPUs with different capabilities. Firstly, the HG quantifies the capability of each GPU, and then assigns an acceptable workload to each GPU. The HG is different from other distributed GPU systems because HG can process dependent tasks which indicates the tasks in HG can communicate with each other. Using this architecture HG can deal with more complex task dependent applications. To validate our approach, in the first set of experiments we show that multiple GPU performs better in complex computing applications. Next we use 2D heat equation application to compare HG with a MPI program running on CPUs. With increasing work set size, computing power of HG results in a much better performance than the CPUs system.

In this paper, we propose a distributed and parallel subarray beamforming (DPS) algorithm for performing underwater real-time 3-D acoustic imaging. The principle idea of this algorithm is that the full populated sensor array is subdivided into two stage distributed subarrays and the beamforming is carried out in parallel for each stage subarray. The proposed algorithm overcomes the problems of massive computational load affecting the engineering applications of the conventional beamforming techniques, while achieving the similar resolutions. The memory requirement obtained with the proposed algorithm is reduced by four orders of magnitude and the computational requirement is reduced by two orders of magnitude when compared with the conventional beamforming (CBF). The simulation and the comparisons illustrate the results and the efficiency of the algorithm.

Majority of the homomorphic encryption schemes which are been used in many applications are asymmetric, required for the third party processing of encrypted data. Hardly few symmetric homomorphic schemes been proposed, most of them have been cracked. The Iterated Hill Cipher (IHC) is an additive symmetric homomorphic scheme. A novel generalized recurrence has been introduced for IHC in this work. The novelty of the Iterated Hill Cipher (IHC) of the present implementation lies on the fact that every time the cipher is invoked for processing of encrypted data, a random quasigroup along with a different initialization vector are generated dynamically. The existing IHC is based on an arbitrary matrix, which might cause a successful cryptanalytic attack on IHC. Almost all ciphers based on quasigroups consider a scenario where the quasigroup (which forms the part of key) to be used for encryption and decryption are pre determined. As a measure to strengthen the existing IHC the present work chooses the matrix to be a dynamically generated random latin square (no storage requirement of quasigroup), the method is illustrated to construct the latin square. The novelty of the present work lies on the fact that it elaborates the criteria of varying key parameters in a specified manner which enables the cipher to still retain its property to be used for encrypted processing as well as upgrading the cipher to a probabilistic cipher.

Graphic processing Units (GPUs) are gaining ground in high-performance computing. CUDA (an extension to C) is most widely used parallel programming framework for general purpose GPU computations. However, the task of writing optimized CUDA program is complex even for experts. We present a method for restructuring loops into an optimized CUDA kernels based on a 3-step algorithm which are loop tiling, coalesced memory access, and resource optimization. We also establish the relationships between the influencing parameters and propose a method for finding possible tiling solutions with coalesced memory access that best meets the identified constraints. We also present a simplified algorithm for restructuring loops and rewrite them as an efficient CUDA Kernel. The execution model of synthesized kernel consists of uniformly distributing the kernel threads to keep all cores busy while transferring a tailored data locality which is accessed using coalesced pattern to amortize the long latency of the secondary memory. In the evaluation, we implement some simple applications using the proposed restructuring strategy and evaluate the performance in terms of execution time and GPU throughput.
