Multi-core architectures can deliver high processing power if the multiple levels of parallelism they expose are exploited. However, it is non-trivial to orchestrate the computational and memory resources allocation. Furthermore, when dealing with distributed memory architectures, data distribution adds another level of complexity. This paper presents a model-driven technique for mapping multi-task parallel programs onto multi-core platforms. The resource allocation configurations are expressed within a three-dimensional optimization space which affects task-level and data-level parallelism, and communication. Then, the performance of any valid parallelization scheme is estimated statically, taking into account both computation and communication costs. We prototyped our approach on the Cell BE with an image processing application. Experiments show that our model can correctly predict the overall performance and highlight the most efficient parallelization schemes.

Large-scale matrix inversion play an important role in many applications. However to the best of our knowledge, there is no FPGA-based implementation. In this paper, we explore the possibility of accelerating large-scale matrix inversion on FPGA. To exploit the computational potential of FPGA, we introduce a fine-grained parallel algorithm for matrix inversion. A scalable linear array processing elements (PEs), which is the core component of the FPGA accelerator, is proposed to implement this algorithm. A total of 12 PEs can be integrated into an Altera StratixII EP2S130F1020C5 FPGA on our self-designed board. Experimental results show that a factor of 2.6 speedup and the maximum power-performance of 41 can be achieved compare to Pentium Dual CPU with double SSE threads.

Existing distributed content delivery systems like P2P applications may provide significant benefits for content providers and end users. However, they just shifted the considerable cost and burden to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and well-behaved end users. In P2P applications the amount of data served by each ISP and payment of many costly transit links are increasing but the corresponding service revenue from the peer-hosted data services provided doesnt return. In this paper, we present a novel Edge-to-Edge Data Service Model (E2EDSM) which aims to avoid transferring redundant data over the costly core transit links as well as improving the transmission efficiency of mass streaming media. E2EDSM describes a new way for ISP to take part in the processing of content distribution and makes an effort to achieve a winwin goal. Experimental results based on simulation show that E2EDSM achieves better network performance.

A key problem in executing performance critical applications on distributed computing environments (e.g. the Grid) is the selection of resources. Research related to "automatic resource selection" aims to allocate resources on behalf of users to optimize the execution performance. However, most of current approaches are based on the static principle (i.e. resource selection is performed prior to execution) and need detailed application-specific information. In the paper, we introduce a novel on-line automatic resource selection approach. This approach is based on a simple control theory: the application continuously reports the Execution Satisfaction Degree (ESD) to the middleware Application Agent (AA), which relies on the reported ESD values to learn the execution behavior and tune the computing environment by adding/replacing/deleting resources during the execution in order to satisfy users' performance requirements. We introduce the Desired processing Capability Estimation learning policy to enable AA to learn and tune the computing environment based on the approach. A Mandelbrot computation and a Bulk Synchronization parallel (BSP) computation are performed to show the effectiveness of the approach.

Scheduling multiple applications on heterogeneous multi-clusters is challenging as the different applications have to compete for resources. A scheduler thus has to ensure a fair distribution of resources among the applications and prevent harmful selfish behaviors while still trying to minimize their respective completion time. In this paper we consider mixed-parallel applications, represented by graphs whose nodes are data-parallel tasks, that are scheduled in two steps: allocation and mapping. We investigate several strategies to constrain the amount of resources the scheduler can allocate to each application and evaluate them over a wide range of scenarios.

This paper presents many typical problems that are encountered when executing large scale scientific applications over distributed architectures. The causes and effects of these problems are explained and a solution for some classes of scientific applications is also proposed. This solution is the combination of the asynchronous iteration model with JACEP2P-V2 which is a fully decentralized and fault tolerant platform dedicated to executing parallel asynchronous applications over volatile distributed architectures. We explain in detail how our approach deals with each of these problems. Then we present two large scale numerical experiments that prove the efficiency and the robustness of our approach.

Graphic processing Unit (GPU), with many light-weight data-parallel cores, can provide substantial parallel computational power to accelerate general purpose applications. But the powerful computing capacity could not be fully utilized for memory-intensive applications, which are limited by off-chip memory bandwidth and latency. Stencil computation has abundant parallelism and low computational intensity which make it a useful architectural evaluation benchmark. In this paper, we propose some memory optimizations for a stencil based application mgrid from SPEC 2 K benchmarks. Through exploiting data locality in 3-level memory hierarchies and tuning the thread granularity, we reduce the pressure on the off-chip memory bandwidth. To hide the long off-chip memory access latency, we further prefetch data during computation through double-buffer. In order to fully exploit the CPU-GPU heterogeneous system, we redistribute the computation between these two computing resource. Through all these optimizations, we gain 24.2 x speedup compared to the simple mapping version, and get as high as 34.3 x speedup when compared with a CPU implementation.

In order to solve the problem that there exists unbalanced detection performance on different types of attacks in current large-scale network intrusion detection algorithms, distributed transfer network learning algorithm is proposed in this paper. The algorithm introduces transfer learning into distributed network boosting algorithm for instructing the attacks learning with poor performance, in which the instances transfer learning is adopted for different domain adaptation. The experimental results on the Kdd Cuppsila99 Data Set show that the proposed algorithm has higher efficacy and better performance. Further, the detection accuracy of R2L attacks has been improved greatly while maintaining higher detection accuracy of other attack types.

ClearSpeed's CSX600 that consists of 96 processing Elements (PEs) employs a one-dimensional array topology for a simple SIMD processing. To clearly show the performance factors and practical issues of NoCs in an existing modern many-core SIMD system, this paper measures and analyzes NoCs of CSX600 called Swazzle and ClearConnect. Evaluation and analysis results show that the sending and receiving overheads are the major limitation factors to the effective network bandwidth. We found that (1) the number of used PEs, (2) the size of transferred data, and (3) data alignment of a shared memory are three main points to make the best use of bandwidth. In addition, we estimated the best- and worst-case latencies of data transfers in parallel applications.

The security of inter-domain routing system greatly depends on the trustworthiness of routing information and routing behavior of autonomous system (AS). Many researches on e-commerce, grid, and p2p have proven that reputation mechanism is helpful to inhibit the spread of false route and the occurrence of malicious routing behavior. To increase AS resistance to malicious routing attack, we designs an alliance based reputation model for AS routing behavior trust evaluation. Our approach calculates AS reputation with the Bayesian probability model and manages AS reputation with AS alliance. Compared with the fully distributed reputation model, our model has lower storage and communication overhead. This reputation model is incremental deployment and easy to implement. It can be employed for securing AS routing and assisting malicious behavior detection.
