Assembly task planning for multiple robots is highly complicated and cumbersome. A new assembly task planning system for multiple robots is proposed to avoid this problem and to improve the flexibility and the reliability in assembly tasks. In this system, parts with which a machine is composed are handled as part-objects and plans for assembling the machine are automatically generated as results of autonomous behaviors of these objects. The outline of the planning system, based on this concept is described. Some simulation results using a cooperative computational model are given.< >

The authors envision that PDC environments with supercomputing capabilities will be available in the near future. However, a number of hardware andsoftware issues have to be resolved before the full potential of these PDC environments can be exploited. The paper describes the interconnection architecture and performance on a cluster of four IBM RISC System 6000 model 340 workstations. It also describes the driver level software interface to the switch and the features incorporated to minimize communication overhead. We proposed a new concept of medical care system, named the "hyper hospital" which is constructed in computer based electronic information network. It is built as a distributed system on the network and consists of all kinds of conventional medical care facilities in both the real and the imaginary spaces. The virtual space of the hyper hospital and private information are owned and exclusively controlled by the patient, thus the maximum protection of the privacy of the patients can be observed. In the hyper hospital, an innovative human interface must be required for the consultation, treatment and other communication to the medical staff. This is especially true if the users are of severely disabled patients. The purpose of the present study is to establish a new human interface based on the event related potential, which enables those kind of patients to communicate with others including medical care staffs without any physical actions.< >

An Multidatabase System (MDBS) is a software package that integrates a number of pre-existing, autonomous and heterogeneous local database systems (LDBS). Deadlock detection and resolution in MDBS is much more difficult than in traditional distributed database systems due to the autonomy requirement which implies that LDBSs cannot exchange any control information. We present an efficient periodic deadlock detection and resolution scheme for MDBS which allows for the concurrent execution of global transactions at multiple sites. Our scheme employs a depth-first search of a bipartite graph called the Transaction-Block-at Site Graph (TBSG).
