This paper presents a new and innovative application for monitoring the hemodialysis process. The application has an expert system designed to detect anomalies which can appear progressively during the hemodialysis process. The expert system uses some production rules which are stored in a knowledge base, used by the inferential engine to offer conclusions to healthcare providers. The experimental system was developed by using CORVID EXSYS software. © 2008 by MIPRO.

This paper presents a method for selecting speech units for polyphone concatenative speech synthesis, in which the simplification of procedures for search paths in a graph accelerated the speed of the unit-selection procedure with minimum effects on the speech quality. The speech units selected are still optimal;only the costs of merging the units on which the selection is based are less accurately determined. Due to its low processing power and memory footprint requirements, the method is suitable for use in embedded speech synthesizers. © 2008 by Mipro.

U U ost scheduling problems are hard to solve optimally for the reasonable size of the input. These problems are even harder to tackle for distributed computing environments. Since distributed computing is a rapidly evolving trend in data processing, there is increased interest in making this approach efficient. Organization of heterogeneous resources in a constantly changing environment makes cluster scheduling a challenging task. In this paper we present different scheduling algorithms that are most frequently employed on computer clusters. We recognize different metrics and system architectures, and analyze various approaches to Uob and resource matching in different environments. © 2008 by Mipro.

This paper describes the development and outcome of the master degree student project "Hit-All-Dart". The main project goals were (1) to develop a stand-alone Machine Vision system for the fast and reliable detection of a flying darts arrow and (2) to design a Control System including a reliable trajectory calculation resulting in the precise positioning of a darts board. In order to design a fully featured application, the system integration of both application parts were a crucial task. Due to real time constraints a deterministic and simple communication system was used. Finally, the transportability and usability of the system needed to be optimized, since the "Hit-All-Dart" system is to be displayed and demonstrated at various exhibitions and conferences. © 2008 by Mipro.

Head pose estimation from 2D images is ill-posed problem since image intensity data is not view invariant, and does not provide 3D configuration of head. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate head pose in uncalibrated lowresolution images. Our approach to estimate 3D orientation of the face uses combination of appearance-based detector based on Haar-like features to localize head and model-based three-point representation of the face. We show that under weak-perspective assumption, given three feature points in image, such as eyes and mouth, pose of corresponding three points in space can be estimated. Experimental results on monocular images show efficacy of the approach. © 2008 by Mipro.

In this paper we present simulation results on design of Robust Reduced-order controllers for dynamical systems. On dynamical systems, reduced order controllers are less expensive to implement than full state variable feedback (SVFB). In a real situation, it is often not possible to measure the whole state vector for the feedback. Moreover, reduced order controllers preserve the desirable structure of the control system. Reduced order controllers can also be employed as back-up controllers, i.e. as controllers which are not active during the regular operation, but which are used in the case of faults. For this reason back-up controllers have to be as simple as possible. Issues of importance to the design of practical reduced order controllers include (i) on-line computational simplicity, (ii) ability to operate solely with available measurable quantities, and (iii) design and implementability in a short time. However, implementation recommendations and simulation results on industry-like test beds are rarely published in the research literature. In this paper we offer a design procedure, which addresses the above issues. The procedure described in this paper allows one to achieve disturbance attenuation and control with prescribed performance at the same time. © 2008 by MIPRO.

Today, the management of road infrastructure relies mainly on disparate, unconnected systems, making comprehensive data analysis across different systems or subdomains, considering the interactions between them, almost impossible. The paper attempts to address this problem using a graph representation of the infrastructure data. It discusses the system requirements and proposes a system architecture based on labelled property graphs (LPG). It shows how the requirements can be implemented by splitting the overall system into different subgraphs in different graph database instances and enabling their comprehensive querying with neo4j. In addition, a graph structure is proposed, allowing the consideration and analysis of spatial relationships between the distributed infrastructure data. Finally, a case study demonstrates how the conceived system can be applied to existing German infrastructure data, showing how bridge data can be automatically queried in conjunction with traffic data for roads that pass over them. © 2024 proceedings of the 31st international Workshop on intelligent Computing in Engineering, EG-ICE 2024. This paper presents a framework for the probabilistic evaluation of the vulnerability of buildings subject to extreme loads, focusing on flood loads due to a heavy rainfall event. The framework builds upon a preceding categorization of buildings within a large building stock to address the challenge of analyzing the buildings on an individual basis. The variability in the geometry arising from the categorization process as well as the variabilities in mechanical properties and structural behavior are accounted for in the probabilistic analysis employing a Monte Carlo simulation. A test case using a reference area in Berlin is presented. The results show the potential of the framework as a general tool for the vulnerability analysis of a large building stock but also point to the necessity of careful determination and calibration of the input parameters as well optimization of the process. © 2024 proceedings of the 31st international Workshop on intelligent Computing in Engineering, EG-ICE 2024. The complexity of BIM software presents significant barriers to the widespread adoption of BIM and model-based design within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. End-users frequently express concerns regarding the additional effort required to create a sufficiently detailed BIM model when compared with conventional 2D drafting. This study explores the potential of sequential recommendation systems to accelerate the BIM modeling process. By treating BIM software commands as recommendable items, we introduce a novel end-to-end approach that predicts the next-best command based on user historical interactions. Our framework extensively preprocesses real-world, large-scale BIM log data, utilizes the transformer architectures from the latest large language models as the backbone network, and ultimately results in a prototype that provides real-time command suggestions within the BIM authoring tool Vectorworks. Subsequent experiments validated that our proposed model outperforms the previous study, demonstrating the immense potential of the recommendation system in enhancing design efficiency. © 2024 proceedings of the 31st international Workshop on intelligent Computing in Engineering, EG-ICE 2024.
