distributed computing is a good alternative to expensive supercomputers. there are plenty of frameworks that enable programmers to harvest remote computing power. However, until today, much computation power in the edges of the Internet remains unused. While idle devices could contribute to a distributed environment as generic computation resources, computation-intense applications could use this pool of resources to enhance their execution quality. In this paper, we identify heterogeneity as a major burden for distributed and edge computing. Heterogeneity is present in multiple forms. We draw our vision of a comprehensive distributed computing system and show where existing frameworks fall short in dealing with the heterogeneity of distributed computing. Afterwards, we present the Tasklet system, our approach for a distributed computing framework. Tasklets are fine-grained computation units that can be issued for remote and local execution. We tackle the different dimensions of heterogeneity and show how to make use of available computation power in edge resources. In our prototype, we use middleware and virtualization technologies as well as a host language concept.

Redundancy is an essential mechanism for fault-tolerance, and yet, it inherently leads to overheads. this prompts an obvious question: how much resource ought to be provisioned in order to account for such overheads? As obvious as the question itself is, a good response is illusive. Provisioning in excess would cause wastage or under-utilization of capacity, while under-provisioning will lead to service disruptions to outright catastrophes. In the context of data storage, such adverse situations would be temporary unavailability to permanent loss of data. thus, it is imperative to adapt the redundancy (elastic redundancy) in the system as per the environment and end user needs. In the context of data storage, if the redundancy is realized using full replication of data, then elasticity can be achieved by just creating (or garbage collecting) further copies of the said data. However, if erasure code is used instead (which is preferable, given the significantly lower storage overhead of erasure codes with respect to fully replicated systems), then, while shrinking redundancy can still be achieved similarly, expanding redundancy becomes non-trivial. A naive approach will require re-coding, which is both network and computation heavy. In this paper, we explore the possibility to use the resources at the edge storage nodes, applying network coding techniques, to both distribute computational load, as well as reduce network usage, and in the process, speed-up the process of creating additional redundancy. Specifically, in addition to defining the problem and analyzing the theoretical limits by leveraging on and extending the existing literature on regenerating codes [4], we propose a framework to realize erasure code instances that are amenable to network coding based elastic expansion of redundancy. We then carry out some preliminary evaluation of one specific code instance, which happens to be optimal with respect to the aforementioned established theoretical limit.

In this paper, we use a advanced method called Faster R-CNN to detect traffic signs. this new method represents the highest level in object recognition, which don't need to extract image feature manually anymore and can segment image to get candidate region proposals automatically. Our experiment is based on a traffic sign detection competition in 2016 by CCF and UISEE company. the mAP(mean average precision) value of the result is 0.3449 that means Faster R-CNN can indeed be applied in this field. Even though the experiment did not achieve the best results, we explore a new method in the area of the traffic signs detection. We believe that we can get a better achievement in the future.

With the development of Economic Globalization, traditional single-cloud providers can not meet the needs of the explosive, global, diverse cloud services. JointCloud aims at empowering the cooperation among multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSP) to provide cross-cloud services. Our work in this paper is mainly focused on the accounting technology for JointCloud computing and we propose the JCLedger - a blockchain based distributed ledger. A new participant CCP (Cryptocurrency Provider) is introduced into the JointCloud collaboration environment to provide the cryptocurrency transferred. We have a detailed description of JCLedger model. We further analyze the four most important mechanisms for JCLedger and provide basic perspectives for in-depth analysis. Finally, we discuss the innovations of JCLedger and our future work in this field.

Nowadays, cloud computing is hard to effectively sustain the implementation of the commercial model of Internet Service globalization. there is a growing trend to build an environment of cloud service, with the capacity to serve anytime and anywhere, by mutual cooperation between cloud service providers around the world. However, this tendency will raise a key issue which is how to provide a benign environment, that allows self-collaboration and fair competition, for different cloud service providers with diverse stakeholder. Inspired by the concept and structure of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) service, this paper proposes a structure named JointCloud Corporation Environment (JCCE), which offers a mutual benefit and win-win JointCloud environment for global cloud service providers. JCCE contains three core services, which are distributed Cloud Transaction, distributed Cloud Community and distributed Cloud Supervision. Also, facing with different cloud service participants, JCCE offers three main service modes for their consumption, supply and coordination. this study plays a significant role in supporting the sharing and self-collaboration of multiple cloud entities, and promoting the development of cloud service market healthy and orderly.

this tutorial presents concepts and basics of distributed computing which are important (at least from the author's point of view!), and should be known and mastered by Master students, researchers, and engineers. those include: (a) a characterization of distributed computing (which is too much often confused with parallel computing);(b) the notion of a synchronous system and its associated notions of a local algorithm and message adversaries;(c) the notion of an asynchronous shared memory system and its associated notions of universality and progress conditions;and (d) the notion of an asynchronous messagepassing system with its associated broadcast and agreement abstractions, its impossibility results, and approaches to circumvent them. Hence, the tutorial can be seen as a guided tour to key elements that constitute basics of distributed computing.

Message exchange is a central activity in distributed computing frameworks. Nevertheless, past research has paid little attention on profiling techniques and tools for endpoint communication. In this paper, we fill this gap by introducing a new fine-grained profiler for endpoints and communication between them in distributed systems. Our tool aids efficient analysis, optimization, and tuning of endpoint communication in distributed frameworks. the paper presents an overview of our profiler, discusses employed profiling techniques and collected metrics, and shows preliminary results in profiling a well-known distributed computing framework.

Many large-scale distributed storage systems deploy erasure coding to protect data from frequent server failures for cost reason. In most of these systems, newly inserted data is first replicated across different storage servers and then migrated to erasure coded. Although this offline encoding manner can improve data access before data is erasure coded for some storage systems, it helps little and wastes many critical network and disk resources for many other storage systems. In this study, we propose an online encoding method, which encodes data as soon as it is inserted into the system. By eliminating the migration process, our online encoding can significantly reduce network transfer and data read;by caching the intermediate parity blocks into memory, our online encoding also significantly reduce data write. Analysis show that our online encoding can reduce data transfer by more than 25%, reduce data write by 57% at least and eliminate all data read, compared to traditional offline encoding. Experiments on a real cluster show online encoding reduces insert time by 20%-24%.
