The paper presents results of authors' studies in the field of image quality in light of new technologies of image captur-ing, production, processing, delivery and reproduction in TV and related video applications. With coming era of UHdTV, HdR-TV and 3d-TV the approaches for image rendition quality are being changed together with progress of video technology and with Chang-ing image viewing conditions at the transmission and repro-duction ends of light-to-light video chain. There are the proposals for the use to assess color ren-dition fidelity of colorimetric models covering of color ap-pearance conditions in the traditional luminance range, for which models of photopic mechanism of color vision are functioning, in the luminance range of glares correspond-ing to the model of perception of unrelated colors, as well as in the luminance range in the area corresponding to the mesopic and scotopic perception model. It is proposed to build the test materials and assessment criteria, which would allow to give a separate estimate for the three mentioned are-as. Estimations of color appearance metric for traditional dynamic range systems are get. The tasks for more complete evaluation of color fidelity, taking into account the mentioned problems, are set. Estimates of the relative color gamut area with consideration of color appearance model are made. Examples of constructing sets of colors, uniformly filling a region of colors transmit-ted by TV systems, are provided. The issues of the possible use new types of systems, adaptive to the properties of transmitted scenes and condi-tions of image perception at the transmitting, receiving sides and at intermediate points of video path are discussed. Ar-guments for the use of image quality evaluation methods in view of adaptability are provided. Medical images play an important role in treating a large number of ailments as they are integral and even indispensable to the diagnosis process of such ailments. Medical images come from different acquisition systems (such as PET, CT, MRI) and, in many situations, automated processing of these images can greatly aid physicians and make their jobs easier. In medical imaging and its applications, 2d segmentation (with its different approaches such as FCM, k-means, MRFM and NN) is the first step which is used to extract ROI. This helps in extracting ROI in each slice (2d medical image) separately regardless of its relation to the next and the previous slices. In this paper, a 3d model of FCM segmentation techniques is proposed to enhance the segmentation process and take in mind the overall 3d-Volume as one testing data.

image stitching is an attractive method to merging multiple images. It can produce a wide-angle panoramic photograph while maintaining the quality of the source images. The process is simply performed by overlapping part of the images which contain common scene. Today, panoramic image stitching is widely used in applications such as 360-degree cameras and virtual reality photography. If the stitching technology ensure fast processing speed and accurate performance, it is expected to produce diverse image contents in real time. Moreover, the panoramic images can be mapped to various projective layouts, e.g. spherical and stereographic projection. The mapping of the panoramic image along the suitable projective layout makes it possible to express more stereoscopic space, that is, the space in the photo can give the impression that it looks as if it is in front. It can be utilized when creating 3d reconstruction space with high-resolution panoramic images. This paper describes the concept of feature based image stitching and presents the implementation results. It also provides the results of stitching with more than 10 images and suggests the time-efficient way for stitching multiple images. The time-efficient stitching method can be applied to various applications so that panoramic images can be easily accessed in everyday life. © 2017 IEEE.

The automobile or mobile device 3d image acquisition and naked-eye 3d head-up display system comprises a head-up display (9), a set of naked-eye 3d screens, a set of biomimetic 3d viewpoints (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), a 3d intelligent center (47), automobile left side and right side biomimetic 3d viewpoint mirrors and an in-automobile naked-eye 3d rearview mirror. When a driver drives an automobile or uses a mobile device, the driver does not need to take their eyes off the road ahead to acquire information, and the driver can determine a relative distance between the automobile of the user and another automobile in an adjacent lane or a lane behind, or a pedestrian, according to 3d images from the set of biomimetic 3d viewpoints and processed by a biomimetic 3d image reconstruction technology, and displayed on the set of naked-eye 3d screens in the automobile. Moreover, an automobile naked-eye 3d display platform is provided for a biomimetic 3d navigation map and other third-party 3d navigation maps.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the route to digitize the customized mandible implants consisting of image acquisition, processing, implant design, fitting rehearsal and fabrication using fused deposition modeling and electron beam melting methodologies. design/methodology/approach - Recent advances in the field of rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, medical imaging and image processing have led to new heights in the medical applications of additive manufacturing (AM). AM has gained a lot of attention and interest during recent years because of its high potential in medical fields. Findings - Produced mandible implants using casting, milling and machining are of standard sizes and shapes. As each person's physique and anatomical bone structure are unique, these commercially produced standard implants are manually bent before surgery using trial and error methodology to custom fit the patient's jaw. Any mismatch between the actual bone and the implant results in implant failure and psychological stress and pain to the patient. Originality/value - The novelty in this paper is the construction of the customized mandibular implant from the computed tomography (CT) scan which includes surface reconstruction, implant design with validation and simulation of the mechanical behavior of the design implant using finite element analysis (FEA). There has been few research studies on the design and customization of the implants before surgery, but there had been hardly any study related to customized design implant and evaluating the biomechanical response on the newly designed implant using FEA. Though few studies are related to FEA on the reconstruction plates, but their paper lacks the implant design model and the reconstruction model. A New Approach for Realistic 3d Reconstruction of Planar Surfaces from Laser Scanning data and imagery Collected Onboard Modern Low-Cost Aerial Mapping Systems

Over the past few years, accurate 3d surface reconstruction using remotely-sensed data has been recognized as a prerequisite for different mapping, modelling, and monitoring applications. To fulfill the needs of these applications, necessary data are generally collected using various digital imaging systems. Among them, laser scanners have been acknowledged as a fast, accurate, and flexible technology for the acquisition of high density 3d spatial data. despite their quick accessibility, the acquired 3d data using these systems does not provide semantic information about the nature of scanned surfaces. Hence, reliable processing techniques are employed to extract the required information for 3d surface reconstruction. Moreover, the extracted information from laser scanning data cannot be effectively utilized due to the lack of descriptive details. In order to provide a more realistic and accurate perception of the scanned scenes using laser scanning systems, a new approach for 3d reconstruction of planar surfaces is introduced in this paper. This approach aims to improve the interpretability of the extracted planar surfaces from laser scanning data using spectral information from overlapping imagery collected onboard modern low-cost aerial mapping systems, which are widely adopted nowadays. In this approach, the scanned planar surfaces using laser scanning systems are initially extracted through a novel segmentation procedure, and then textured using the acquired overlapping imagery. The implemented texturing technique, which intends to overcome the computational inefficiency of the previously-developed 3d reconstruction techniques, is performed in three steps. In the first step, the visibility of the extracted planar surfaces from laser scanning data within the collected images is investigated and a list of appropriate images for texturing each surface is established. 目前大部分智能手机在图像采集技术上依然停留在感光、像素等二维水平,但由于二维图像本身包含的信息有限,无法全面展现真实空间环境的位置关系及空间物体的深度信息,很大程度上阻碍了人类对客观世界的感知。利用移动智能终端内置摄像头、传感器件实现对真实环境光学信号的采集及物体运动过程的捕捉,借助与之匹配的操作软件进行数据分析运算,并结合实时获取的位置和方向等综合信息绘制真实世界的3d模型,使得物体的三维轮廓、物理特性将能被充分识别,最终实现在智能终端的显示。3d成像技术在实现对二维像素采集的同时完成了像素景深的叠加,实现了智能三维定位,有效推动了面部识别、机器视觉检测、大数据智能采集等技术的发展。

Immersive virtual reality (VR) technology has the potential to play an important role in the conceptual design process in architecture, if we can ensure that sketch-like structures are able to afford an accurate egocentric appreciation of the scale of the interior space of a preliminary building model. Historically, it has been found that people tend to perceive egocentric distances in head-mounted display (HMd) based virtual environments as being shorter than equivalent distances in the real world. Previous research has shown that in such cases, reducing the quality of the computer graphics does not make the situation significantly worse. However, other research has found that breaking the illusion of reality in a compellingly photorealistic VR experience can have a significant negative impact on distance perception accuracy. In this paper, we investigate the impact of "graphical realism" on distance perception accuracy in VR from a novel perspective. Rather than starting with a virtual 3d model and varying its surface texture, we start with a live view of the real world, presented through a custom-designed video/optical-see-through HMd, and apply image processing to the video stream to remove details. This approach offers the potential to explore the relationship between visual and experiential realism in a more nuanced manner than has previously been done. In a within-subjects experiment across three different real-world hallway environments, we asked people to perform blind walking to make distance estimates under three different viewing conditions: real-world view through the HMd;closely registered camera views presented via the HMd;and Sobel-filtered versions of the camera views, resulting a sketch-like (NPR) appearance. We found: 1) significant amounts of distance underestimation in all three conditions, most likely due to the heavy backpack computer that participants wore to power the HMd and cameras/graphics;2) a small but statistically significant differen

The accessible acquisition of 3d models of human heads has many applications, such as anthropological studies, ergonomic product design and digital avatar animation. In this paper we introduce a low-cost system that accurately reconstructs 3d models of the human head using a consumer RGB-d sensor. Our proposed system uses an RGB-d sensor (i.e. the Microsoft Kinect) as the 3d sensing device and the KinectFusion algorithm as our reconstruction method. A segmentation algorithm based on face detection methods on the RGB images is applied to the 3d reconstructed model of the human, resulting in an automatic human head scanning device.
