Delay tolerant networks ( DTNs) are often susceptible to the problem of high delay. Quite often, the major reason behind the high delay in the network is lack of complete path from source to destination. One of the greatest challenges faced by DTN is to enable end to end communication in heterogeneous environment that possesses severe performance impairments. The DTN routing problem, amounts' to a constrained optimization problem where edges may be unavailable for extended periods of time and storage constraints exists at each node. The proposed protocol aims at minimizing the energy required for communication by reducing several overheads. It determines the delivery probability through each of its neighbours and delivers copies of message accordingly. The proposed protocol directionalizes the delivery of packets according to the location information of the destination. This study will focus on directional dissemination of messages which results in forwarding small number of messages. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

In the article the control and optimization of multistage technological processes were discussed. In the presented research, it was assumed, that in the complex technological processes, the multistage differential-algebraic constraints with unknown consistent initial conditions were considered. To rewrite the infinite-dimensional optimal control problem into the finite-dimensional optimization task, the direct shooting method was applied. Simulated annealing algorithm was proposed as the method for solving nonlinear optimization problem with constraints. Stretching function was used to allow us to locate the globally optimal solution. The complex process constraints were treated using constraints aggregation methods. The presented methodology was tested with optimal control problem of the two-reactors system. The numerical simulations were executed in MATLAB environment using Wroclaw Center for networking and Supercomputing.

In this paper, a new type of local search algorithm is proposed, called Learning Tabu Search and denoted LTS. It is assumed that any solution of the considered problem can be represented with a list of characteristics. LTS involves a learning process relying on a trail system. The trail system is based on the idea that if some combinations of characteristics often belong to good solutions during the search process, such combinations of characteristics should be favored when generating new solutions. It will be showed that LTS obtained promising results on a refueling problem in a railway network.

The paper compares two formulations of dynamic power management in energy-aware computer networks. In the first approach the only criterion is energy consumption, in the second there is an additional one - the quality of service. It is shown, that the second approach is appropriate when the routing problem with fixed demands is inadmissible. Fortunately, by some optimization modeling transformations it still allows for using the same standard mixed integer solvers as the first approach.

Among the major challenges in 3GPP LTE-A (3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evaluation) and beyond networks are the convergence of services towards IP technology, the quality of service (QoS) and the maintenance of multimedia flows transmitted on wireless networking for mobile and heterogeneous users. In this environment, multimedia services must face various disadvantages generated by the unreliability of the wireless channel shared by several users. These new characteristics impose new requirements when designing wireless protocol, such as in LTE-A networks, where protocols must be dynamically adapted with the continuous changes of the radio operator state channel and seek at the same time to meet the QoS requirements with the supported applications. In this context, we will propose a new cross layer and performances optimization of the 3GPP LTE-A system. Our major contribution consists to set up coordinated interactions between high layers applications representing for example video streaming and those of low layers, such as network, MAC (Medium Access control) and physical layer. The information exchange between these layers will lead to optimize the application operation according to the changes observed on the radio operator channel. Thus, this solution would reduce the probabilities of the application dysfunction or interruption, while respecting the QoS constraints (time, throughput, PLR (Packet Loss Ratio) and maintain a constant flow for the user.

Distribution network reconfiguration is an complex and many object combination optimization. So many optimization algorithms were introduced to solve this problem, but it is easy to be prematurity and fall into local optimization. Based on the full understanding of the current status of the distribution network reconfiguration problem, we propose an improved type of immune algorithm by introducing the Immune Clonal Selection Algorithm (ICSA) genetic manipulation, affinity of mature, cloning and memory mechanism, and use the appropriate operator to ensure that the algorithm can quickly converge to the global optimal solution to improve the efficiency of the algorithm solving and solution accuracy, avoiding the "curse of dimensionality" and precocious problems. ICSA algorithm is proposed to improve the convergence speed simultaneously. Better maintain the diversity of the population. Effectively overcome the premature convergence of evolutionary computation itself is difficult to solve the problem. Based on analysis of the distribution network reconfiguration model and the traits of ICSA, the mathematical model and the procedures for solving the optimized distribution network optimization by using ICSA were proposed in detail. A case study about American PG&E network system indicates that ICSA has better convergence speed and computational accuracy, whereby providing a novel effective method or way for the settlement of the problem of distribution network reconfiguration. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

We consider the decision problem of a marketing manager who has to decide on the best selection of advertising media to be used in a promotional campaign. In this paper an optimization model is developed as part of the marketing management software solution MAR-MIND. It estimates the effect of each single medium and each pair of media from the evaluation data recorded for past campaigns. These evaluations are weighted by similarity measures which represent the distance between campaigns based on their attributes and goals. Furthermore, a memory effect is introduced to give lower weight to campaigns of the more distant past and higher weight to more recent campaign valuations. The resulting discrete optimization model is a Quadratic Knapsack Problem (QKP) which can be solved almost to optimality by a genetic algorithm. Then the given campaign budget is allocated to all selected advertising media based again on estimations from previous campaigns.

Deep learning (DL) is a new area of research in machine learning, in which the objective is moving us closer to the goal of artificial intelligent. This method can learn many levels of abstraction and representation to create a common sense of data such as text, sound and image. Although DL is useful for a variety of tasks, it's hard to train. Some methods in training deep learning to make it optimal have been proposed, including Stochastic Gradient Descent, Conjugate Gradient, Hessian-free optimization, and Krylov Subspace Descent. In this paper, we proposed Simulated Annealing (SA) to improve the performance of Convolution Neural network (CNN), as an alternative approach for optimal DL using modern optimization technique, i. e. metaheuristic algorithm. MNIST dataset is used to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method. Moreover, we also compare our proposed method with the original of CNN. Although there is an increase in computation time, the experiment results show that the proposed method can improve the performance of original CNN. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Heat exchanger network (HEN) is a process equipment that is widely used in the petrochemical industry and refinery. One of the most frequent problems is fouling. The fouling's effects are loss of energy, decreased throughput, and increase pressure drop. In the United States, losses due to the fouling about $ 4.2-10 billion per years. One of the fouling mitigation techniques is applied cleaning schedule on HEN under fouling condition. This technique has the drawback frequently clean more cleaning cost, no cleaning increase energy loss and additional pumping due to the fouling. The optimization cleaning schedule method is required. optimization cleaning schedule is mix integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) class which is difficult to solve due to non-convex problem with many local optimum. MINLP could be solved using a stochastic method. One of the stochastic method is imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA). In this paper applied ICA in HEN cleaning schedule. The result of HEN cleaning schedule using ICA is saving heat transfer loss about 44.83% and from an economic point, saving $ 1.05 million in a period of 44 months, or 22.12% of losses due to fouling.
