As a new optimization technique for discrete dynamic systems, approximate dynamic programming (ADP) for the optimizationcontrol of a simple traffic signalized intersection is proposed. ADP combines the concepts of reinforcement learning and dynamic programming, and it is an effective and practical approach for real-time traffic signal control. This paper aims at minimizing the average number of vehicles waiting in the queue or the vehicles average waiting time at isolated intersection by using the action-dependent ADP (ADHDP). ADHDP signal controller is designed with neural networks to learn and achieve a near optimal traffic control policy by measuring the traffic states. As shown by the comparison with other traffic control methods, the simulation results indicate that the approach is efficient to improve traffic control at a simple intersection.

This paper introduced an optimization model to address dynamic speed control strategies for achieving network-wide speed harmonization. Genetic Algorithm (GA) was applied to search the optimal solution of the proposed model. During the search process, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based analytical model and microscopic traffic simulation VISSIM were applied to evaluate the performance of possible solutions. The proposed model can be used to determine the deployment of dynamic speed limits, the displayed speed limit, and the timing to change these speed limits. The proposed model was tested using VISSIM in an urban freeway network of about 12 miles long. Different simulation scenarios with varying AADT from 60,000 to 12,000 were tested. It was found that when properly implemented, dynamic speed control can improve traffic flow conditions, reduce congestion and emission, and enhance network throughput. For example, in the selected urban freeway network with the AADT of 80,000, the proposed dynamic speed control strategy can save 5% average travel time, reduce 9% of the vehicles with high collision risk and about 11% emission.

In order to improve the detection rate of intruders in coal mine disaster warning internet of things, and to solve the problem that the back propagate neural network (BPNN) is invalid when these initial weight and threshold values of BPNN are chosen impertinently, Genetic Algorithms (GA)'s characteristic of getting whole optimization value was combined with BPNN's characteristic of getting local precision value with gradient method. After getting an approximation of whole optimization value of weight and threshold values of BPNN by GA, the approximation was used as first parameter of BPNN, to train (educate) the BPNN again (in other words, learning). The educated BPNN was used to recognize intruders in internet of things. Experiment results shown that this method was useful and applicable, and the detection right rate of intruders was above 95% for the KDD CUP 1999 data set.

Energy self-supply is one of the most important problems, and there are many undesirable energy difficulties when carrier keeps working underwater, and. A method based on inertial pendulum has been presented, but the model of wave energy absorption efficiency which is a significant parameter is strongly nonlinear and difficult to be gained. A method based on radial basis function (RBF) neural network is adopted to model in time domain. To prevent the problem that structure and parameters of neural network are hard to be tuned, improved RBF network based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The results obtained by presented method and by simulation software ADAMS are compared, which validate the method used to be correct and make basis on future research.

Different node layout density exist in farmland wireless sensor network monitoring, but the existing wireless sensor network topology control algorithm does not take uneven node distribution into consideration. And the node residual energy issue is not considered in the commonly used LMST topology control algorithm either. This paper presents a wireless sensor network hybrid topology control algorithm which considered both the uneven distribution of network nodes and the residual energy issue. Firstly, this algorithm clustering in the high node density areas based on node degree to reduce overall energy consumption. Secondly this algorithm use nodes residual energy based LMST topology control algorithm to achieve energy balance among network nodes. This improved algorithm ultimately achieved the purpose of prolonging the network lifetime.
