Mobility Robustness optimization (MRO) is proposed in Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks to improve handover performance by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). However, conventional MRO algorithms which tune cell (-pair) level handover parameters that control the generation of measurement reports have restricted gain because of the uneven interference distribution within the handover region in the spatial domain, and also the interference variation in time domain when the cell load changes. Mobility optimization is even more challenging in heterogeneous networks (HetNet) due to the more complex channel and load conditions there. In this paper, we propose a networkcontrolled handover mechanism to solve these problems. The mechanism exploits measurement reports to identify the best target cell and channel quality measurements to realize a handover specific timing decision. System simulations show the new mechanism can be configured by a MRO algorithm to overcome many of the handover challenges in LTE HetNet

The two hybrid algorithms of back propagation neural network and immune genetic algorithm were used in the optimum design of the hot pressing parameters of Ti(C, N) matrix nano-composite ceramic die material. The BP algorithm could set up the relationship well between the hot pressing parameters and single mechanical property. Compared with the experimental value, the relative error of fracture toughness, hardness and flexural strength is only 4.65%, 0.23% and 4.05%, respectively. After analyzed the predicted results, the best predicted results were the sintering temperature was about 1455 degrees C and the holding time was 11 min. Under these hot pressing parameters, the best flexural strength and the best fracture toughness of the material could be obtained.

Distributed generation (DG) is more and more installed and integrated in the electric power systems, mainly in distribution networks. The conventional method of voltage control with on-load tap changer transformers is not efficient enough to deal with the growth of integration of distributed generators. The DG power regulation will contribute to optimize the steady voltage profile in network and thus to rise the maximal DG installation capacities of network. The work reported in this paper shows that the coordination of DG power regulation can realize a voltage control of distribution network. The coupling between active power and voltage magnitude must be taken into account according to the our results.

Normal operation of an active distribution network (ADN) requires simultaneous optimization of different objectives of the various involved actors. This results in a multi-objective optimization problem which has not yet been treated completely. This paper considers a particular relationship between commercial and technical coordination, involving capacity management of the distribution network. First, the market-based ADN, its actors and their objectives are described. An agent-based approach is desirable to handle the complexity of this ADN. Then, several technical issues for integrating capacity management within a multi-agent market-based ADN are pointed out. After that, the developed agent architecture and coordination mechanism are further elaborated upon, along with a formulation of the multi-objective optimization problem. Finally, a decentralized approach for integrating capacity management is introduced and demonstrated.

Wireless networked control Systems (NCS) are increasingly deployed to monitor and control Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). To achieve and maintain a desirable level of performance, NCS face significant challenges posed by the scarce wireless resource and network dynamics. In this paper, we consider NCS consisting of multiple physical plant and digital controller pairs communicating over a multi-hop wireless network. The control objective is that the plants follow the reference trajectories provided by the controllers. This paper presents a novel optimization formulation for minimizing the tracking error due to (1) discretization and (2) packet delay and loss. The optimization problem maximizes a utility function that characterizes the relationship between the sampling rate and the capability of disturbance rejection of the control system. The constraints come from the wireless network capacity and the delay requirement of the control system. The solution leads to a joint design of sampling rate adaptation and network scheduling, which can be naturally deployed over existing networking systems which have a layered architecture. Based on a passivity-based control framework, we show that the proposed cross-layer design can achieve both stability and performance optimality. Simulation studies conducted in an integrated simulation environment consisting of Matlab/Simulink and ns-2 demonstrate that our algorithm is able to provide agile and stable sampling rate adaptation and achieve optimal NCS performance.

In this paper, a novel networkoptimization-based MPC scheme is proposed for on-line optimization and control of a class of distributed control systems, in which the on-line optimization of the whole system is decomposed into that of several small-scale sub-systems in distributed structures. Under network environment, the connectivity of the communication network is assumed to be sufficient for each sub-system to exchange information with other sub-systems. An iterative algorithm for networked MPC with ideal information model is developed for DCS. Finally, the simulation study of the fuel feed flow control for the walking beam reheating furnace is provided to test the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed networked MPC algorithm.

A hierarchical control structure for optimal dispatch of distributed energy resources within different levels of the distribution network has been presented and a deterministic optimization and agent coordination algorithm has been proposed for optimizing the operation of flexible resources at the community cell level. Coordinated optimal dispatch of resources ensures that only the required number of loads/resources are dispatch at every moment, which contributes towards alleviating simultaneous load reconnection which would otherwise occur if all loads/resources were dispatched independently (in an uncoordinated manner). It has also been shown in this paper how number of cold loads and a community storage unit, could be dispatched in a coordinated and cooperative manner to contribute towards the objective function of maintaining the community's power flow below a pre-specified threshold.

This paper presents two models for building Digital Signature of network Segment using flow analysis (DSNSF). The DSNSF can be classified as a characterization of the traffic or as a baseline of the analyzed network segment. In this work two types of signatures of network segment are presented. The first is built applying K-means clustering algorithm and the second using optimized clustering by metaheuristic Ant Colony optimization (ACO). The signatures provide characterization of the traffic segments analyzed using NetFlow v9 protocols TCP and UDP. The results achieved show that the two models presented using k-means Clustering and metaheuristic Ant Colony optimization obtained good results for the creation of DSNSF or traffic characterization of the segments analyzed.
