Logistics and freight transport companies aim to enable and support managerial tools through their digital twin platform. Consequently, requirements for vehicle models in logistic digital twins differ, as their purpose are to support operational and logistical decision-making rather than vehicle system sizing, design, and control strategies. Integrating these models into broader, iterative workflows necessitates extremely short simulation times-much less than a second-while retaining the accuracy of physics-based vehicle simulation models. In this paper, a data-driven approach is proposed for developing a vehicle digital twin model to estimate three crucial parameters: (a) battery SoC, (b) energy consumption, and (c) charging events, solely based on datasets provided through a dedicated vehicle CAN bus. The proposed data-driven model is more than 50 times faster than the corresponding physical one developed in the MATLAB environment. Moreover, this significant reduction in the CPU time is allied to a high accuracy. © 2024 european Union

This study presents a hybrid digital twin (DT) model of a six-phase electric machine, designed to replicate the physical system with high accuracy. This hybrid DT facilitates rapid virtual verification, efficient controller tuning and simulations of fault-tolerant control strategies. The proposed approach is referred to as hybrid modelling, as it integrates a physics-based mathematical model with experimental data to develop the digital twin model. Specifically, the DT utilizes a d-q analytical framework, implemented in MATLAB, which is further refined using experimental data to ensure the model accuracy. This hybrid approach offers significant advantages over conventional modelling techniques, allowing for the incorporation of empirical data, while maintaining the fundamental physical properties of the system, particularly under fault conditions. This paper presents the proposed methodology for developing a digital twin model of six-phase PMSM. The methodology begins with the development of a mathematical model, followed by the implementation of the FOC strategy in both the DT model and the physical system, ensuring consistency in the control approach. Detailed procedures for data acquisition and parameter identification are provided, with the data integrated into the hybrid DT model to improve its precision. Finally, the precision of the DT model is validated through comparisons between simulated outputs and experimental measurements, demonstrating its effectiveness in replicating real-world behaviour across various operating conditions. © 2024 european Union

On complex problems, state of the art prediction accuracy of Deep Neural Networks (DNN) can be achieved using very large-scale models, consisting of billions of parameters. Such models can only be run on dedicated servers, typically provided by a 3rd party service, which leads to a substantial monetary cost for every prediction. We propose a new software architecture for client-side applications, where a small local DNN is used alongside a remote large-scale model, aiming to make easy predictions locally at negligible monetary cost, while still leveraging the benefits of a large model for challenging inputs. In a proof of concept we reduce prediction cost by up to 50% without negatively impacting system accuracy.

The notable expansion of technologies related to automated processes has been observed in recent years, largely driven by the significant advantages they provide across diverse industries. Concurrently, there has been a rise in simulation technologies aimed at replicating these complex systems. Nevertheless, in order to fully leverage the potential of these technologies, it is crucial to ensure the highest possible resemblance of simulations to real-world scenarios. In brief, this work consists of the development of a data acquisition and processing pipeline allowing a posterior search for the optimal physical parameters in MuJoCo simulator to obtain a more accurate simulation of a dexterous robotic hand. In the end, a Random Search optimization algorithm was used to validate this same pipeline.

This work compares six AC/DC power conversion chain topologies commonly employed by industrial companies for implementing electrolyzers. The main purpose is to help identify the eventual advantages of joining the traditional high-power rectifiers to an additional stage based on DC/DC conversion. The comparison is based on the current ripple, power factor, total harmonic distortion, scalability, and solution complexity. A Simulink model corresponding to each topology was developed to determine comparison criteria. The procedure consists of performing a steady-state analysis of each topology through simulations to obtain the main waveforms and the values of the established criteria and then calculating the scores for each technical solution. The findings indicated that the 24-pulse diode bridge rectifier plus DC-DC without interphase reactor exhibited the best performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper provides some comparisons of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) services for Portuguese that were developed in the scope of the Safe Cities project. ASR technology has enabled bi-directional voice-driven interfaces, and its demand in Portuguese is evident due to the language's global prominence. However, the transcription process has complexities, and a high accuracy depends on the ability of capturing speech variability and language intricacies, while being rigorous in terms of semantics. The study first describes ASR services/models by Google, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, and Voice Interaction regarding their main features. To compare them, three tests were proposed. Test A uses a small dataset with six audio recordings to evaluate in terms of word hit rate the accuracy of online services, with IBM outperforming others (pt-BR: 93.33%). Tests B and C utilize the Mozilla Common Voice database filtered by a keywords' set to compare online and offline models for Brazilian and european Portuguese regarding accuracy (Ratcliff-Obershelp algorithm), Word Error Rate, Match Error Rate, Word Information Loss, Character Error Rate and Response-Request Ratio. Test B highlights the higher accuracy of Google Cloud (pt-PT: 94.90%) and Azure (pt-BR: 98.11%). Test C showcases the potential of Voice Interaction's real-time application despite its lower accuracy (pt-PT: 78.81%). The tests were carried out using a framework developed using Python 3.x on a Raspberry Pi 4 model B with a server desktop and the REST APIs from the companies' repositories.

We develop a software platform architecture for the integration of heterogeneous software applications in the process industries, ranging from physical simulation models to data-driven AI applications and visualizations. Digital twins play a key role in this architecture, providing harmonised interfaces to a diverse set of data sources, based on a domain-specific data model rooted in standard ontologies. We investigate the applicability of existing standards and open-source software, demonstrating on the one hand their immense potential for software-based innovations in the process industries, but also highlighting some shortcomings and the need for further developments. Convolutional neural network (CNN) is increasingly applied to data-driven fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment spare parts. However, CNN training network parameters need a large amount of fault data, and better training effect can be obtained by updating network parameters repeatedly. In this paper, an improved CNN by multiwavelets is introduced multiwavelets into convolution layer, the natural convolution attribute of multiwavelets is fused with convolution layer to fully release the two-channel feature extraction ability of multiwavelets transform. At the same time, we change the parameters of the multiwavelets convolution kernel to discuss the overall diagnostic performance of the network in the same dataset. Thus, different multiwavelets kernel parameters are customized according to different signal characteristics. The feasibility and effectiveness of improved CNN by multiwavelets for case Western Reserve University fault-bearing data are verified. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

iXen's ambition is to overcome the limits of existing IoT platforms in the cloud and deal with challenges of security and interoperability. Therefore, iXen is interoperable and expandable (i.e. services can be added or removed) while being secure by design: access to services is granted only to authorized users (or other services) based on user roles and access policies. Leveraging principles of Service Oriented architectures (SOA) and the most recent EU standards for context information management, iXen is implemented as a composition of RESTful micro-services in the cloud. iXen adopts a 3-tier architecture design model. The first layer supports connectivity of the vast diversity of IoT devices with the cloud. The second (middle) layer implements IoT data functionality including, database, security and context management services allowing devices to publish information and, users (or other services) subscribed to devices to get notified about the availability of this information. Flow-based programming services in the middle layer allow fast development of new applications by wiring together IoT devices and services. The third layer makes IoT applications available to customers based on subscriptions.
