With the increasing elderly population all around the world, the healthcare services to elderly has become more important. Dementia is one of the common cognitive problems among the elderly population where a basic daily dining activity could be difficult for them to perform. Drinking activities is one of the most important daily needs to keep a person away from dehydrating. Most of the existing works on dining activities recognitions are mainly based on wearable sensors and sensor rich eating utensil. Although the accuracy for sensor based techniques is high, some of the elderly might be reluctant to wear, and some might even forgot to wear altogether. In this paper, we propose a novel system that is purely based on depth data from an RGB-D camera for drinking activities recognition. Dynamic time warping algorithm is used to recognize and detect the drinking activities.

In the process of describing the degradation process of battery of electric vehicle, degradation models under dynamic running conditions need to be analyzed in order to effectively forecast the remaining useful mileage and life of battery. This paper proposed a new method of patternrecognition based on ART2 network to distinguish the degradation mode of the battery of electric vehicle. First, the degradation mechanism is analyzed of the battery to extract the features of degradation process. Then the learning process of ART2 is designed for recognition of the degradation mode. After that, HMM is applied to research the dynamic changes of the degradation mode and predict future degradation mode sequences. Finally, experimental analysis based on battery's charge and discharge data proves the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In order to solve the problem of the information loss on the feature extraction process in the traditional patternrecognition, a new method based on probability boxes theory was proposed. Firstly, the skewness of the fault signal data were used as the information source to construct the tow p-boxes about X and direction. Then, to take advantage of the complementation of the information source, the tow p-boxes from different directions were fused. Finally, the SVM features database was established by extracting different types of cumulative uncertainty measures from p-boxes. The analysis result shows that the combination of p-box and SVM can achieve a high recognition rate, which makes a new way for patternrecognition.
