Smiths has worked closely with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to evolve a single fusion and decision support platform for helicopters, aeroplanes and engines that can address a number of military needs: a need for an advanced diagnostics, prognostics, lifing and intelligent management platform; a need for generating concise prognostic information; a need for a fusion, mining and automatic trending platform; a need for an expandable verification platform open for 3rd party tools; a need for a platform providing diverse applications to a wide range of users; and a need for a flexible platform providing military applications/benefits during evolution. This paper reports on a number of fusion and decision support tools developed by Smiths and MOD and embedded within the Smiths flight and usage management system (FUMStrade) to address these needs. The nervous system is the major controlling, regulatory, and communicating system in human body. One of the basic functions of the nervous system is the sensory, by which one monitors the external and internal environments. Sensory pathways to the cortex usually consist of three sensory neurons termed 1st order, 2nd order, and 3rd order neurons. In this paper, a standard biological inspired neuron was presented, which can be acted as the basis node of robot perceptual systems. The hardware and software has been designed and implemented for modeling, testing and employing sensor networks composing of many identical neuron nodes. Each node considers ease-of-use and power considerations. Some requirements, such as 'plug-and-play' capability, system integration and dynamic reconfiguration, were described, which is achieved through an 'transducer electronic data sheet' (TEDS) in our networked transducer neuron node. The TEDS contains fields that fully describe the type, operation, and attributes of one or more transducers and its data formats are defined. The paper also specifies a digital interface for connecting neuron to access the TEDS data sheets for reading sensor data and setting actuators. Each neuron can connect more than 8 channel analog signals by 12 bit resolution, two digital channel for SPI and I/sup 2/C interface sensor, and more than 20 channel I/O for switch signal, it can also offer two channel analog output for controlling purpose. A set of designed neurons can be connected together by different structure to form robot nervous system, not only for sensing, but for controlling too. Example application on robot perception system and future in progress work are discussed in the end.

Extracting road information from the high-density point cloud collected by the vehicle-borne laser scanning system is essential for making High Definition (HD) maps. This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) laser point cloudbased pavement extraction method applicable to roads of different structure types. First, the filtering method based on cloth simulation is used to extract all ground point sets from the original point cloud data. The partial surface points in front of the vehicle are selected from the ground point to estimate the normal vector of the road surface model. Then, based on the uniformity of the point cloud density distribution of the road surface, all the road points are finally filtered out from the plane point concentration by calculating the continuity of the onedimensional and two-dimensional point density. After that, according to the characteristics that the road points are positively distributed, the method based on the skewness balance is used to estimate the separable road sign. We show that this method can accurately extract road surface information from point cloud data with an extraction rate of 96.1%.

In this paper, a hierarchical intelligent analysis and fault diagnosis model of power equipment is proposed, which includes data acquisition layer, feature extraction layer, fault diagnosis layer and result output layer. Key parameters such as current and voltage are collected in real time by sensors, and fault-related features are extracted by signal processing technology and machine learning algorithm. In the feature extraction layer, wavelet transform (WT) and principal component analysis (PCA) are used to reduce the dimension of features, so as to fully capture the effective information in fault signals. In the fault diagnosis layer, the deep learning (DL) model is adopted, and a large number of historical fault data are trained to realize high-precision fault identification. Aiming at the shortcomings of existing algorithms, this paper proposes a hybrid fault diagnosis algorithm combining DL and physical model. The algorithm improves the diagnosis accuracy and real-time performance by combining the feature learning ability of DL model and the prior knowledge of physical model. Specifically, a dual-stream network structure is designed. One stream processes the original data, and the other stream processes the data converted by the physical model. Finally, the features of the two streams are weighted and fused at the high level of the network for classification and diagnosis. The experimental results show that the hybrid fault diagnosis algorithm proposed in this paper is superior to other algorithms in accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score, which shows its effectiveness and superiority in dealing with complex fault diagnosis problems. In the experiment with 14,000 training data, 4,000 verification data and 2,000 test data, the accuracy of the algorithm is 0.957, the precision is 0.943, the recall rate is 0.962 and the F1 score is 0.952.

This work investigates the signal characteristics of a physiological response (acute stress) and determines the viability of developing a Virtual Reality (VR) integrated physiologically based real-time feedback loop. This work has possible applications in physiotherapy and patient rehabilitation for long-term conditions including long COVID, persistent pain, and chronic fatigue. Using real-time physiological data, this approach can offer an individualised and immersive therapeutic experience. By synchronizing VR experiences with physiological responses, clinicians can optimise treatment efficacy and facilitate targeted rehabilitation efforts. A design and early prototype were developed to include a feedback loop driven by an ensemble of biosignal signatures, correlating with stress responses, that adjusts dynamic components in the environment. The prototype shows the feasibility of developing a physiologically based XR environment suitable for virtual physiotherapy interventions.

The existing mine pressure monitoring system has already realised online continuous monitoring of the working face stent resistance, roadway roof off-loading and anchor rod/rope working resistance. However, the mine pressure monitoring information of the working face is only the stent resistance and monitoring time, and there is no information on the working face advance. When analysing the mine pressure data, no accurate analysis can be made due to the lack of measurement point locations. Mine pressure data analysis combined with the working face progress information is the basis for improving the safe and efficient mining and intelligent level of the comprehensive mining working face. This system adopts UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) technology and SDS-TWR (Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) positioning algorithm, takes UWB positioning base station as the core, installs positioning tags in the working face end bracket for information collection, and uploads the data to the supremacy computer for coordinate solving via Ethernet. The data is uploaded to the host computer via Ethernet for coordinate solving, automatically collects the working face advancement data, and provides location information for mine pressure monitoring. The application results show that the system operates normally, and can collect real-time working face advance information and monitor mine pressure data with good application effect.

This research paper presents a brief review of ten popular unsupervised algorithms widely utilized in pattern recognition publications. The algorithms are assessed based on their popularity, strengths, limitations, and resource require-ments. Considering these factors, we propose two most-preferred algorithms suitable for adoption in IDS (Intrusion Detection systems) to address the problems associated with Zero Day exploits or attacks. Our review of the surveyed algorithms facilitated the recommendation of specific algorithms that can enhance IDS capabilities in detecting and mitigating Zero-Day attacks and anomalous intrusion attempts. These algorithms leverage unsupervised learning techniques to overcome the limitations of traditional signature-based approaches. By incorporating these algorithms, IDS can better handle sophisticated and evolving attacks that often evade detection. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the strengths, limitations, and resource requirements of popular unsupervised algorithms used in pattern recognition. It highlights the potential of adopting these algorithms in IDS systems to bolster their ability to detect and respond to Zero-Day attacks. By recommending the integration of these algorithms, we contribute to the development of intelligent IDS solutions that can adapt to dynamic threat landscapes.

In recent years, as the consumption rate of renewable energy has increased, the impact of renewable energy on the power grid has also increased. Currently, distribution network system operators and transmission line system operators are unable to acquire and control the operational status of renewable energy sources such as wind power photovoltaics. These phenomena pose a significant challenge to the safety and stability of the operation of the power system. The virtual power plant is a feasible solution, based on the data acquisition terminal of advanced communication technology, decentralized control or centralized control of DER. Based on the virtual power plant, this paper aggregates three types of resources, wind power, photovoltaic, and electric vehicles, which are typical on the supply side and the demand side. Then, the virtual power plant is regarded as a whole to accept the dispatching instructions of the power grid, formulate the operational strategy of the internal resources of the virtual power plant, and participate in the peaking service.

The rapid development of smart cities requires the integration of advanced technologies to maintain efficiency in urban areas. One critical aspect is the implementation of effective route-finding methods to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance the quality of life for residents. This paper explores the application of the A-Star (A*) Search Algorithm within the context of Indonesia’s planned new capital in Kalimantan. The study employs the A-Star algorithm, incorporating various heuristic distance measures such as Euclidean, Manhattan, and Chebyshev distances. The methodology involves creating graphs and trees from input data to optimize route planning for both public and private vehicles. The study aims to design a flexible and efficient routing system that can accommodate the diverse driving styles and conditions specific to Indonesia, particularly for the proposed new capital city, which aims to be a hub of smart city innovations. The findings reveal that the algorithm’s flexibility allows it to adapt effectively to real-time traffic data and various environmental conditions. In conclusion, integrating the A-Star algorithm into intelligent city infrastructure presents a promising solution for managing traffic and transportation in Indonesia’s new capital. By leveraging IoT and real-time data, the algorithm can enhance the efficiency and safety of urban mobility, contributing to the overall success of innovative city initiatives in Indonesia. This study’s novelty lies in its adaptation of the A-Star algorithm to Indonesia’s unique cultural and environmental conditions, providing a customized solution for the country’s new capital city.

Vehicle-to-grid(V2G) is an important tool for enhancing the flexibility of new power systems and ensuring real-time power balance. The V2G system has the characteristics of multiple levels of entities and strong openness, making it easy to become the main target and springboard for attacking the power grid. In this context, the article analyzes the communication architecture and potential information security risks of the V2G system. Based on the domestic password algorithm system, a multi-layer and full link V2G system information security protection architecture is constructed, which ensures the safe and reliable transmission of V2G system information through four key technologies: identity authentication, encryption protection, situational awareness, and data sharing. Through testing, it has been shown that in order to ensure the success rate of data encryption and decryption in the V2G system, the system must have a concurrency of less than 1000 times. The encryption and decryption time, throughput, and anomaly rate indicators of the system are excellent. This data scheme can meet the interactive business needs of the V2G and provide important guidance for the information security construction of V2G networks.
