This paper concerns about keystroke dynamics and face image fusion. Different methods of database collecting are presented. The authors combined data from their own keystroke database and public AT&T database of Faces. Keystroke Dynamics-Benchmark data Set was used additionally. Two selected approaches have been merged and overall system reliability was tested. Initial outcome shows that the results when the algorithms work together give more robust identification accuracy.

One of the most important components in the value of gemstones is how clean and free of inclusion the stone is. Based on the broad used technique of visual inspection, the designed expert system automatically checks the surface of the ruby samples and detects three main components: ruby, calcite and mica. Based on this data, the system was able to assess the amount of clean ruby surface of the specimens. For this study, the database consisted of 115 rough ruby samples from four hue classes: strongly purplish red, slightly purplish red, red purple, and purple. To form the expert database, four samples of each ruby class were selected and the colors space reduced using minimum uniform quantization. Each color of reduced color space was labeled by a gemologist team, and identified as ruby, calcite or mica. This paper presents the research on the results of the inclusion detection in rough ruby samples.

The present paper describes a dual approach using pseudo-3D vision for Machine-Awareness in indoor environment. Provided by color and depth cameras of the a Kinect system, the aforementioned duality presents an appealing solution for robots' 3D-vision. Placing the human-robot and in a more general way the human-machine interactions as a key outcome of the expected visual Machine-Awareness, the proposed vision-system aims proffering the machine the self-reliance in awareness about the surrounding environment in which the machine is supposed to evolve. Blend pseudo-3D vision and salient objects' detection algorithm, the investigated approach seeks an autonomous detection of relevant items in 3D environment. The pseudo-3D perception leads to reducing computational complexity inborn to the 3D vision context into a 2D computational task by processing 3D visual information within a 2D-images' framework. The statistical foundation of the investigated approach proffers it a solid and comprehensive theoretical basis, holding out a bottom-up nature making the issued system unconstrained regarding prior hypothesis. We provide experimental results validating the proposed system.

Recently, the architecture of the Internet of Energy (IoE) has been proposed to replace the current smart grid in the future. However, the large volume of energy produced, the copious amounts of accompanying consumption data, and the uncertainties germane to intermittent energy sources will result in the real-time energy management of the IoE in the future being much more complicated than the energy management of traditional power generation systems. We thus propose a real-time power scheduling system to tackle these complex energy management problems. The whole power system is divided into different geographical regional grids under a hierarchical framework, and the scheduling process is activated at the regional grid if a power shortage is estimated to happen during a fixed time period ahead. The experimental results show that the proposed work can mitigate the dependency on traditional power plants effectively and balance peak and off-peak period loads in an electricity market.

A paper is devoted to the management of innovative projects based on the theory of fuzzy sets. To analyze project risks based on the terms of their implementation - acceleration, according to the plan and with the delay, authors proposed to employ both the asymmetry coefficient and the coefficient of asymmetry variation which are characterizing the asymmetric distribution of costs due to changes in the time interval of project implementation. On the basis of those coefficients above the fuzzy model was designed taking into account the duration of project implementation and the risks associated with the emergence of additional costs. Values of both coefficients are assigned in such way to meet the low, medium and high level of their performance. Fuzzy rules for assessing the feasibility of implementing the innovative project are developed. It's experimentally proofed the proposed fuzzy model gives a result that enables to get the optimal implementation period of the innovative project.

This paper presents an embedded solution of concurrent low-pass filter and sample interleaving system which process back-scattered signal of optic-fiber distributed temperature sensors at 250 MSPS. The logic design is implemented on a data acquisition platform with four ADC channels and FPGA-ARM processors;samples from two ADCs are merged and reconstructed to double the equivalent sampling rate. A low-cost FPGA processes Stokes and antiStokes signals from up to 20000 measurement locations along the fiber. In the experiments the comparison between interleaved data and original data shows that quantization noises around input signal frequency were evidently reduced but small distortions of high frequency were introduced. The concurrent filter guaranteed a SNR of 42.3 for the distributed temperature sensors.

The large-scale surveillance video processing workloads are gradually migrated to cloud computing platforms. Meanwhile, the hybrid storage architecture, integrating both HDD and SSD storage devices, is increasingly used in the current cloud platforms. However, the computing and storage capabilities of the nodes are constantly changing, and this requires the delicate design of the data layout strategy for avoiding the serious load skew in the distributed computing nodes with the hybrid storage architecture. In this paper, we propose a Load-Aware data Migration (LADM) scheme for distributed surveillance video processing with hybrid storage architecture. Specifically, according to the proposed the load estimation model and the storage capacity constraint, the Node-Level data Migration (NLDM) strategy is used to periodically migrate the appropriate video chunks from the local HDD to the local SSD for improving the node processing performance, and the Cluster-Level data Migration (CLDM) strategy is used to periodically migrate the appropriate video chunks from the high load nodes to the low load nodes for achieving the overall load balance of cluster. We conduct the extensive experiments based on the distributed surveillance video processing platform we developed, and the experimental results show that the proposed LADM scheme outperforms the current methods.

Climate change and resultant scarcity of water are becoming major challenges for countries around the world. With the advent of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) in the last decade and a relatively new concept of Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems developers are now working on designing control and automation systems that are lower in cost and more sustainable than the existing telemetry systems for monitoring. The Indus river basin in Pakistan has one of the world's largest irrigation systems and it is extremely challenging to design a low-cost embedded system for monitoring and control of waterways that can last for decades. In this paper, we present a hardware design and performance evaluation of a smart water metering solution that is ieee 802.15.4-compliant. The results show that our hardware design is as powerful as the reference design, but allows for additional flexibility both in hardware and in firmware. The indigenously designed solution has a power added efficiency (PAE) of 24.7% that is expected to last for 351 and 814 days for nodes with and without a power amplifier (PA). Similarly, the results show that a broadband communication (434 MHz) over more than 3km can be supported, which is an important stepping stone for designing a complete coverage solution of large-scale waterways.

A critical aspect of vehicle safety analysis is understanding the impact of human behavior on the overall performance of the system. Since active safety systems (such as collision warning systems) are designed for escaping a life threatening situation, evaluation and validation of their components and the underlying algorithms are often costly, and cannot be achieved without direct exposure of test subjects to hazards. As an alternative, researchers try to use simulation tools to design and evaluate their safety algorithms prior to building test-beds for validation. This study proposes a comprehensive simulation framework for vehicular active safety system analysis. It comprises different domains of communication, transportation, and vehicular safety. The simulation framework supplies a driver model and allows for analysis of human reaction and behavior to an imminent warning. Modeling human behavior is specially challenging and requires an in-depth breakdown and investigation of the class of actions a human driver may select from. In this study, we look at the primary form of a driver reaction, i.e. braking when a warning is issued. We investigate different levels of braking and complete our analysis by studying the effect of each braking level on a subject forward collision warning algorithm.

This paper addresses the context data integration and processing problem for design of data driven application by introducing ASAPCS (Auto-scaling and Adjustment Platform for Cloud-based systems) platform. Conceptual model, technical architecture and data integration process are described. The ASAPCS platform supports model-driven configuration, separation of context acquisition and application, utilization of various context processing algorithms and scalability. It is based on technologies that have proven to work well with big data and each part of it is horizontally scalable. ASAPCs integrates data from heterogeneous sources and aggregates raw context data and uses it to perform real-time adjustments in the data-driven application. Its application is illustrated with example of providing data store resilience.
