High Dynamic Range-HDR high resolution recording and processing are required for sonar images when the electronic noise floor from the sensor arrays is well below the ambient acoustic noise floor in the ocean in the frequency bands of interest, while maximum signal levels are determined by the transmitted source level used for the system. Practically one has to handle instantaneous dynamic ranges in excess of 100 dB to support both extremes so that the highlight structure details of close-in bottom features, which are required to classify, are maintained, especially when a number of systems operate in closer proximity. Therefore the data acquisition problems in high frequency high dynamic imaging sonar become critical. Commercially available data acquisition components cannot handle the wide bandwidths and high dynamic range required. An overview of a number of recent techniques based on the use of custom silicon band-pass sigma-delta converters developed for these types of applications is discussed in this paper. © 2012 ieee.

This paper set up high-quality and highly efficient automatic data collection and analysis system by King View configuration in order to improve the reliability and stability of PV-Wind power system monitoring and decrease the workload, the design of its functions, structure, interface, control strategy and system variables, protection, and so on are detailed. It uses configuration software based on PC to exploit the operation interface in host computer, and adopt Wide-Plus intelligent Instrument as the lower computer to data-acquisition. It monitors and controls PV-Wind power System, acquires field data, deals with device faults in real-time.

An intelligent system, which is real-time, remote, and automatic for monitoring the settlement of surface subsidence or building, was developed based on the principle of communicating vessels. The Hydrostatic leveling, displacement sensors, data acquisition and transmission, 3G wireless communications module, computer terminals, and data processing software were integrated in the system, which has the following functions: monitoring data real-time acquisition and transmission, automatic calculation and analysis of the settlement, and early warning by remote wireless mode. The system has been successfully applied in the Minzhi station project of Shenzhen Metro Line 5 to ensure the normal operation of existing railway. Meanwhile, the high accuracy and reliability of the system are also verified by the engineering applications. It can be applied to monitor the settlement of similar projects.

Yield Prediction is an essential task to be achieved in order to implement effective forward marketing. Forward marketing is a contract that will be signed between supplier and client based on the amount of delivery and the price of delivery in future. To be able to sign such a contract the supplier should be very confident that the yield could be achieved. The yield sustainability is a challenging process in agriculture. Mango cultivar Harumanis is one of the best table tropical fruit due to its aroma and sweetness. Despite its overwhelming local demand in Malaysia and also internationally, the fruit supply never meets the demand. The flowering phase is identified as an important stage as plant reproductive physiology. Currently, Harumanis mango flowering only happens once a year that restricts the yield. In this paper, data mining is used to quantify the climatic effects on Harumanis mango yield to enable yield prediction. © 2012 ieee.

The quality of biometric samples plays an important role in biometric authentication systems because it has a direct impact on verification or identification performance. In this paper, we present a novel 3D face recognition system which performs quality assessment on input images prior to recognition. More specifically, a reject option is provided to allow the system operator to eliminate the incoming images of poor quality, e. g. failure acquisition of 3D image, exaggerated facial expressions, etc.. Furthermore, a fully automatic preprocessing method is presented in this paper. The experimental results show that the 3D face recognition performance is significantly improved by taking the quality of 3D facial images into account. The proposed system achieves the verification rate of 97.09% on the FRGC v2.0 data set.

The objective of the paper is to propose a power aware routing method in a geographical zone, using Bluetooth sensor's for efficient Irrigation Management System (IMS). Research on wireless sensor networks has recently received much attention as they offer an advantage of monitoring various kinds of environments by sensing physical phenomenon. The dynamic and heterogeneous nature of pervasive environment has led us to develop a model for an intelligent field irrigation system to solve the issue of water scarcity and labor, as it is the key issue in irrigation. We describe here a multi hop Bluetooth ad-hoc network with multiple gateways for data acquisition and remote administration. The model implements an economically feasible irrigation monitoring system whereby the Bluetooth sensors are embedded in the fields, which transmits various kinds of ambient conditions like temperature, humidity and water levels. The model uses the power-aware zone based routing protocol for routing the data from the Bluetooth sensors to the data acquisition system and thereby alerting the farmer with a suitable alert mechanism through mobile phone. The system is evaluated using simulations to identify the master among the nodes and to calculate the path to reach the gateway.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol for single and multiple traffic in MANETs. We investigate and compare the packet delivery fraction (PDF) and throughput. As network simulator, we used ns-3 and we considered random waypoint mobility model for different number of nodes and different maximum speed by sending single and multiple traffic in the network. Simulation results show that the performance of the network is high when the number of nodes is 20 and maximum speed is 6 m/s for single and multiple traffic. © 2012 ieee.

MANETs are attracting attention for their potential use in several fields such as collaborative computing and multimedia communications. MANET nodes cooperate in an autonomous way by forwarding packets to each-other. Considering mobility of the terminals, routes change dynamically so routing algorithms are very important for operation of MANETs. These protocols and other algorithms are tested by simulations, emulations and experiments. In simulations, by using random mobility models, all nodes move randomly and the distance between the nodes changes in an uncontrollable pattern. In this paper, we consider a case study when the source and destination nodes are static and we analyse the performance of a MANET simulation system, considering the proactive OLSR routing protocol. We evaluate the performance of MANET by evaluating packet delivery rate, number of hops and throughput of one-flow traffic. © 2012 ieee.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) represent a rapidly emerging, particularly challenging class of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). VANETs are expected to be massively deployed in upcoming vehicles, because their use can improve the safety of driving and makes new forms of inter-vehicle communications possible as well. Because they are characterized of high mobility and dynamic topology change, congestion control should be performed in such networks. In this paper, we analyze the TCP traffic in a VANET. We investigate and compare the Good put of DYMO Protocol for TCP Vegas and TCP New Reno considering also the congestion window, slow-start threshold and sequence number versus time. The simulation results show that in this VANET scenario, TCP New Reno performs better than TCP Vegas. © 2012 ieee.

As Clouds are complex, large-scale, and heterogeneous distributed systems, management of their resources is a challenging task. They need automated and integrated intelligent strategies for provisioning of resources to offer services that are secure, reliable, and cost-efficient. Hence, effective management of services becomes fundamental in software platforms that constitute the fabric of computing Clouds. In this direction, this paper identifies open issues in autonomic resource provisioning and presents innovative management techniques for supporting SaaS applications hosted on Clouds. We present a conceptual architecture and early results evidencing the benefits of autonomic management of Clouds.
