The gaming industry is booming, as is the size of its market, which has seen a growth surge. This increase goes hand in hand with the growing popularity of online games, including massively multiplayer ones, a trend that is continuing and is expected to grow even more in the coming years. These gaming environments lay the foundations of what is likely to be tomorrow’s Metaverse. Whatever systemic flaws or vulnerabilities they have will most likely be carried over, if not addressed properly now. Inspired by a class of attacks that disrupt the game synchronization between players, we propose a thought-provoking reflection, claiming that these issues cannot be addressed by the classical body of knowledge in dependable or secure distributed systems. We offer ideas for research plans to move forward, using the games as a concrete experimentation platform but keeping in mind the broader impact of these issues.

Wireless sensor networks are mostly popular in a wide variety of applications and is used without any restrictions, that leads to serious security implications. Major concerns are localization, security, data aggregation, data integration, data calibration, fault tolerance and distributed denial of service attacks. It is important to explore the articles that are published by researchers about their concerns and the adopted methods used to solve the problem space. This paper includes a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to explore any uncovered areas. In recent days’ bibliometric analysis using R based bibliometric package is the most popular approach used in this research study. This research presents a) Annual Scientific Production, b) Annual Citations per Year c) Three-Fields Plot d) Most Relevant Sources e) Source H-Index f) Most Relevant Authors and their production over time g) Co-occurrence Network from trendy topic frequency h) Thematic Map. It is a quantitative research conducted on security for wireless sensor networks using dataset retrieved from Scopus database, it is all about the articles published during the period: 2002 and up-to the first quarter of 2022. A collection of 1654 articles are filtered using Search protocol and the same is based on PRISMA approach. After bibliometric analysis authors observations are that during the last two decades this being an interesting topic, there is a contributed growth of around 27.69% articles represents the demand. This survey paper provides a research roadmap for intended researchers.

IoT and sensor-based waste management exist as priority solutions for the problems from an urban perspective. Urban areas keep on rising in population, with a developing measure of waste created yearly that can put immense strain on conventional Waste Management systems. This is where forward-thinking technologies like IoT and sensors are introduced into waste management services to be more resourceful, cost-effective, and eco-friendly. A network of connected devices, sensors, and data analytics to collect real-time data is made possible because of this IoT technology. IoT can be used to check and track bin & container waste levels and disposal routing scheduling needs. It enables information transfer among recycling service providers and residents. This can also include sensors in waste bins that allow real-time data on the composition of discarded materials to be gathered and help spot improvements. IoT and sensor technology in waste management help to reduce costs of waste collection & disposal and more effective sorting of recyclable materials, which can be what we need for a long time while caring about the environment. Moreover, the live data it provides helps make effective and well-planned decisions for waste management strategies in the future. All told, combining IoT with sensor-based waste management stands to revolutionize our great cities into intelligent and sustainable places, instigating better disposal habits conducive to people's health. © 2025 ieee.

Social media platforms mainly provide personalized recommendation services for users, and usually adopt recommendation methods related to user or project similarity based on the characteristics of different platforms. However, current recommendation techniques mostly rely on simple similarity calculations, which can significantly reduce accuracy when dealing with large amounts of data. To address this issue, this paper proposes a collaborative filtering recommendation method based on social media gene maps. Specifically, this article draws on the concept of genes in biology, collects social media user behavior data, extracts biological genes, social genes, and network gene fragments, calculates the core gene matching degree of each gene fragment, and uses entropy weight method to assign different weights to gene fragments, thereby constructing a complete social media gene map and optimizing the recommendation mechanism. The experimental results show that this method outperforms traditional recommendation algorithms in terms of recommendation performance. Subsequently, this article proposes to combine social media gene maps with project similarity to further improve recommendation algorithms. When measuring project similarity, a fusion of scoring similarity and semantic similarity was used, combined with user gene matching degree, to optimize the weighted Slope One algorithm and achieve more accurate recommendation services. The results indicate that the algorithm proposed in this paper has significantly improved in evaluation metrics such as MAE and MRSE.

The method for calculating the attitude of the projectile requires high real-time performance and a large amount of calculation. The parallel calculation method of the missile-borne signal is studied. For the linear iterative equations in the attitude solution algorithm, a parallel calculation based on Newton method is proposed. This method decomposes linear iterative equations in parallel to form a distributed multi-core parallel solution process, which can effectively optimize the algorithm solution time. Experiments were conducted through four sets of data with different data lengths and frame rates to verify the execution efficiency of multi-core parallel computing.

Recommender systems that provide recommendations based uniquely on information over users and items may not be very accurate in some situations. Therefore, adding contextual information to recommendations may be a good choice resulting in a system with increased precision. In an early work, we proposed an Ensemble Variational Autoencoders (EnsVAE) framework for recommendation. EnsVAE is adjusted to output interest probabilities by learning the distribution of each item's ratings and attempts to provide diverse novel items that are pertinent to users. In this paper, we propose and investigate a context awareness framework based on the Ensemblist Variational Autoencoders model with integrating the contextual information. The context awareness EnsVAE can easily be inferred from preceding sub-recommenders or applied as a filter to the final output. Test performed on real dataset, using an instance of the proposed framework show clear improvement compared to baseline architectures with similar ends as of this instance. © 2021 ieee.

This article proposes a multilevel coordinated voltage control (CVC) strategy for facilitating distributed residential demand response for network voltage optimization. The proposed CVC scheme coordinates multiple home energy management systems (HEMS) connected on a low-voltage radial distribution network through a sensitivity-based approach to minimize voltage deviations in multiple timescales owing to high photovoltaic (PV) penetrations and load variability. In order to mitigate the effects of uncertain PV output and load during actual system operation, a day-ahead two-stage robust optimization (TSRO) model has been developed, which optimizes network operation in the longer timescale, for worst-case realization of uncertainties in shorter timescales. This is sequentially followed by fully distributed hour-ahead CVC which is decomposed into network optimization and energy management subproblems through alternating direction method of multipliers. In order to counteract the effects of real-time uncertainties, local adjustments are performed by redispatching HEMS at individual households to locally adapt to unforeseen variations, thereby minimizing real-time voltage deviations. Extensive simulations are performed on the modified Dutch LV network. Simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed multilevel CVC approach to robustly handle uncertainties while ensuring reliable operation and maximum user-comfort.

This paper aims to design and implement an ML-based approach to learn from NeuroAqua - the AI and IoT-based aquaponics system set up in our previous research at both a lab setting and larger-scale Ouroboros Aquaponics Farm (Half Moon Bay, CA) to enhance system stability and efficiency. Utilizing the data gathered from the wireless sensors, a structured database was formed to store the aquaponics environmental conditions, water quality, nutrient components, and plant images. We used the ML model to find the important factors having the largest impact on plant growth and their optimal amount levels. First, computer vision with image processing was applied to develop auto plant growth monitoring and to measure plant growth rate as the target variable more accurately and automatically for ML. Then feature engineering on the input variables was performed to enhance model performance and accuracy for a smaller dataset. ML algorithms including Linear Regression, Bagging Regressor, Decision Tree, Random Forest, XGBoost and Artificial Neural Network were applied and evaluated based on key performance metrics. The findings show that XGBoost outperformed the other models with 91.6% accuracy and also had the lowest MAE. Random Forest came in second with 90.9% accuracy and then Bagging Regressor in third with 88.5% accuracy. Lastly, according to the feature importance analysis conducted on the best model of XGBoost, Nitrogen had the largest impact on plant growth, followed by Nitrate, Nitrite, Light, and Phosphorus. Hence the initial results would recommend to closely monitor these top important factors together with plant growth in NeuroAqua's monitoring applications.

Permissioned ledger technologies have gained significant traction over the last few years. For practical reasons, their applications have focused on transforming narrowly scoped use-cases in isolation. This has led to a proliferation of niche, isolated networks that are quickly becoming data and value silos. To increase value across the broader ecosystem, these networks must seamlessly integrate with existing systems and interoperate with one another. A fundamental requirement for enabling cross-chain communication is the ability to prove the validity of the internal state of a ledger to an external party. However, due to the closed nature of permissioned ledgers, their internal state is opaque to an external observer. This makes consuming and verifying states from these networks a non-trivial problem. This paper addresses this fundamental requirement for state sharing across permissioned ledgers. In particular, we address two key problems for external clients: (i) assurances on the validity of state in a permissioned ledger and (ii) the ability to reason about the currency of state, i.e., whether the state is currently valid. We assume an adversarial model where the members of the committee managing the permissioned ledger can be malicious in the absence of detectability and accountability. We present a formalization of the problem for state sharing and examine its security properties under different adversarial conditions. We propose the design of a protocol that uses a secure public ledger for providing guarantees on safety and the ability to reason about time, with at least one honest member in the committee. We then provide a formal security analysis of our design and a proof of concept implementation based on Hyperledger Fabric demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed protocol.

The increasing concentration of urban population has certainly made the advocates of sustainable and efficient cities very interested in their construction. Energy efficient do indeed involve street lighting which unfortunately is one of the most challenging features of any sustainable city as it incurs large shares of expenditure within the energy budget of the cities. Aho et al. note that older streetlights were almost always left on regardless of what the operating environment was or this could be an insomniac offending night. The large scale installation and use of such systems results in wastage of electricity, addition of light pollution and cost funds to maintenance. Therefore, smart lighting systems are fitting end to such deficiencies, where Internet of Things and smart control systems are employed. These systems include methods of control whereby devices and luminaires are turned off or dimmed or turned on depending upon the expected conditions. Such advancement of smart lighting proposes advantages of decreased electrical consumption, less electrification pollution to the extent of being a 'win-win' for vehicles and pedestrians oriented safety measures. More than motion sensors are necessary to enhance smart road lighting systems, as light around the area and the geographic location of the road lighting equipment must be integrated into the system. In addition, only a light is turned on when a car is nearby so that there is minimal energy wastage. Also, the real time visibility of energy consumption and the frequency of providing such information has a huge bearing on the management of lighting or power resources. Moreover, such technological advancement is very useful to smart vehicles because geofencing allows for the switching on of streetlights after a vehicle is a certain distance away from the light meaning less energy is also spent. © 2025 ieee.
