With the prevalence of digital cryptocurrency and online transactions, the amount of data carried in cyberspace has been increasing rapidly. How to ensure the security and reliability of cyberspace data is a challenging problem. Blockchain has been widely recognized as a reliable technical solution for distributed data storage and sharing, and has attracted great attention from both industry and academia. This article first provides a brief introduction to the blockchain technology and distributed database systems, with a focus on the characteristics of decentralization and traceability. Then, it surveys the state-of-the-art work on blockchain-based distributed database systems, and compares these technologies. Afterwards, the application scenarios of blockchain-based distributed database systems are discussed. Finally, some promising research directions and suggestions focused on blockchain-based data storage are presented.

The paper explores optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) output frequency control by adjusting the integrated optical time delay line in the OEO feedback loop. The developed mathematical model demonstrates the continuous nature of output OEO frequency tuning for the continuous phase incursion change in the OEO feedback loop. We created a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) numerical model for verification in the Ansys Lumerical Software. The PIC is designed for the generic silicon-on-insulator platform. We applied an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer with tunable couplers as an integrated optical time delay line. Numerical simulations showed that the applied time delay line provides an output OEO frequency change range of 360 MHz within a voltage range from -3.2 to 0.5 V. In this case, the time delay tuning step is 6 ps/V, and the corresponding output frequency step is 30 MHz/ps. For the precision digital-to-analog converter (DAC), an output OEO frequency tuning step is 7.2 kHz for the minimum DAC voltage step 40 µV.

The use of deep neural networks (DNN) for 3Dimage processing significantly enhances visual cognition of mobile systems by considering spatial information. However, training and execution require high computing power. This is crucial in applications with real-time constraints since mobile systems have limited resources. Current approaches do not consider the usage of 3D-sensing. Furthermore, suggested system architectures solely focus on cloud- and edge-computing in combination with load balancing and parallelization for a distributed execution of DNNs. In contrast, we propose a novel system architecture for the distributed and context aware usage of DNNs for image processing tasks in mobile 3D-multi-sensorsystems. Thereby, the scalable cloud- and edge-infrastructure is complemented by realtime capable and energy-efficient FPGA-computing. The publishsubscriber pattern facilitates the distributed execution of DNNs as well as their dynamic deployment. Moreover, context information is considered. Thus, a rule-based context model dynamically loads specialized DNNs and selects appropriate devices for execution. Nowadays, the rapid growth of predictive maintenance methods has become crucial for Internet of Things (IoT) enabled wireless devices. The existing Random Forest (RF) utilized to predict device failures although, the complexity of IoT device data led to scalability issues. Hence, this research proposes an Adaptive Boosting with Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (AdaBoost-SMOTE) for predicting device failures. The proposed AdaBoost-SMOTE overcome the scalability issues by handling imbalanced data and reducing dimensionality for accurate prediction. Initially, the input data is collected from IoT-enabled sensors and preprocessed with z-score normalization to scale the features. Then, Permutation Importance (PI) is employed to select the optimal features by ranking the feature score based on its importance. After that, SMOTE is used to handle the imbalance data and then, AdaBoost is employed to predict the machine failures by assigning the higher weights to misclassified samples in an iterative manner. Finally, hyperparameter tuning is done by using Grid Search Cross-Validation (GSCV) to optimize the parameters by selecting best CV score as a best set of hyperparameters. From the results, the proposed AdaBoost-SMOTE achieved best results in terms of accuracy (97%), precision (95%), recall (93%), and F1-score (94%) when compared to existing AdaBoost.

Food disposal is an important issue that has emerged in the modern world and has become more of a concern in our society in recent years, affecting both rich and poor countries. This operation requires high expenses because of various factors such as manpower, navigation of vehicles, fuel, maintenance, and environmental costs. This study highlights a prototype that has been designed considering the above factors of essential implementation of the smart garbage bin to develop a proper municipal waste management system that is useful for the further fertilizer processing system. The prototype discussed here has been developed by a GSM module and ultrasonic distance measurement technology integrated into microcontrollers. This system has been simulated using EDA tools before hardware-based implementation according to the requirements. The proposed system offers a proper web server and SMS notification alert system to stop municipal garbage bins from overflowing. Using data server proper resources can be utilized such as creating location-based shortest paths and tracking worker’s performance, etc. A food waste management awareness system also can be displayed to raise public awareness for food scraps to be recycled and utilized to create fertilizer for new plantings. The suggested approach promises to contribute to a more sustainable and cleaner urban environment by encouraging citizen participation in recycling and trash reduction initiatives and optimizing waste management strategies for the respected organizations.

The current healthcare and emergency response systems face significant challenges in preventing fatalities and serious injuries among elderly individuals and those living alone due to falls, delayed emergency care, and insufficient continuous health monitoring. This research proposes the development and evaluation of a cost-effective smart hand glove designed to enhance the safety and health monitoring of these vulnerable populations. The smart hand glove is built using an Arduino Uno microcontroller, an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, two MPU6050 sensors for fall detection and gesture recognition, and a MAX30100 sensor for heart rate and SpO2 monitoring. These components work together to detect falls, recognize specific hand gestures, and continuously monitor vital signs. Upon detecting a fall or receiving a gesture input, the system triggers automatic SMS and email alerts to designated contacts. Additionally, health monitoring data is transmitted to a secure, password-protected website accessible by healthcare providers. The smart hand glove demonstrated its potential in improving safety and health outcomes for elderly individuals and those living alone by enabling timely medical intervention and continuous health monitoring. This innovative solution addresses critical gaps in emergency response and healthcare for vulnerable populations, ensuring better safety and wellbeing.
