This paper presents the growth in the industrial monitoring system's design using Internet of Things (IoT). The sensor used for the development of this system is MQ-2 which detects the leakage of gas at any atmospheric condition and fire sensor as a simple and compact device for protection against fire. In gas sensor system, Raspberry pi plays an important role such that all the components are interfaced to it. This avails the observer to notice the changes from anywhere in the world. The requirement of a gas detection system is to monitor the surroundings continuously. When gas and smoke is detected then system will send short message service (SMS) to the user then user will take respective action.

WSN have large numbers of spatially distributed and dedicated sensing devices, which are used for sensing the physical condition of the environment in which they are deployed. Todays time, WSN have lots of areas for research and it plays important role like tracking of area, health-scanning, earthquake sensing and so on. WSN sets supplementary life as well as nodes time-period in sensor nodes. Network life cycle is dependent on many factors like their topology type, residual energy after some rounds, sensor-node distance to sink node etc. There are already lots of work done on this concept. Clustering is one of the most important approach to make efficient communication. In this paper, we used clustering approach that uses the minimum energy consumption by choosing the Clusters-Heads (CHs) using five parameters: delay, standard deviation of Eres, average distance of CHs, standard deviation of average life time of cluster head and max distance to Base Station (BS). Results verify that our proposed algorithm will prolong the lifetime of network over LEACH and base algorithm.

An analysis was made of existing control systems and telemetry. There are requirements for modern geographically distributed telemetry systems. Simulation of an adaptive system for monitoring the technical condition of technological objects based on wireless sensor networks is considered as a decomposition of particular problems of forming, processing and transmitting measurement information using the methods of the theory of random processes, queuing theory and methods of the theory of signal transmission. We described a method for reducing the redundancy of measurement information in the monitoring systems of the technical condition of technological objects due to its operation in emergency and pre-emergency alarm modes, as well as taking into account external factors. It has been determined that the priority of service requests coming from sensors is characterized by the growth dynamics of the monitored parameter to the established tolerance, which is confirmed by the application service model. It is shown that the system for monitoring the technical condition of technological objects can be made in the form of application service systems, which are a queuing system that registers the flow of accident signals - applications and determine their priorities. Based on the analysis of the use of wireless sensor networks, the possibility of their integration into a simulated system for monitoring the technical condition of geographically distributed control objects is shown. It is shown that for an ordered polling of the elements of the sensor network, a polling system with dynamically changing parameters can be used. A group polling method is described in various polling modes with a fixed number of sensors registering an alarm signal, which makes it possible to significantly increase the efficiency of testing, taking into account possible errors in the transmission of measurement information. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

As the technologies leaning towards digitalization, there has been extensive scope for researches in the field of Software Defined Networking. The architectural framework makes the life of network administrators easy by decoupling the data plane and the control plane. This architecture exploits easy configuration of network, thus providing programmable terminal for development of applications related to security, management and logging while the centralized controller gives much more control over entire network. This type of network is at risk due to attacks by the intruders with an intention to slow down or shut down the entire network. One such kind of attacks is DoS attack. DoS attack involves flooding of fake packet flows from a single source into the original packet flow. DDoS is a type of DoS attack where multiple compromised systems, which are often infected with malicious programs, are used to target a single system Hence to achieve security in distributed environment, it is important to reduce the effect of such attacks. In this paper an approach of mitigating distributed DoS has been discussed. Approach first detects DDoS using Entropy Detection attack and then uses Bandwidth Prediction method to mitigate it. Entropy is basically used for measuring randomness in the system and there are two essential components to DDoS detection using entropy;window size and threshold.

A building's structural mass does provide inherent thermal storage capabilities. Through the application of sector coupling energy resources, e.g., combined heat and power plants or power-to-heat, the building mass can provide flexibility to the electric power system. Within this work, a mathematical model of a building inertia thermal energy storage is proposed to allow integration into optimized smart grid control for real-world applications. It is shown how necessary model parameters can be obtained using multiple linear regression based on measurable building data. Thereby, the nonlinear characteristics of external conditions influencing the storage operation, such as outside temperature and solar irradiation, are transformed into weighted linear factors. The possibility of the ceiling surface temperature serving as a proxy for measuring the current state of energy is demonstrated. This allows real-world implementation using minimal additional hardware. Within a case study, the potential of using building storage in optimized smart grid control with sector coupling assets of a Virtual Power Plant is analyzed. The utilization of building storage compared to conventionally used hot water tanks is presented, and cost benefits for both Virtual Power Plant and building operator are shown.

In this research, for the purpose of reducing cost and increasing penetration rate, insole type gait sensor has been proposed. The proposed method needs to be manufactured inexpensively in order to collect daily life gait information. Therefore, the minimum number of sensors required for gait analysis of this research is clarified. The suitable number of e-textile sensors and contact position of the gait sensor for gait analysis are obtained experimentally. Although the proposed method does not require as much accuracy as a floor reaction force meter in the laboratory, validity is evaluated by comparing with acquired gait data and a floor reaction force gauge. For the validity of gait analysis, this research revealed that two sensor locations are required, only the toe and the heel, and that each sensor should group several contacts.

The tendency to use renewable energies in DC microgrids (MGs) has been increased in the past decades. Due to the unpredictable behavior of renewable resources, it is vital to utilize energy storage resources in the MG structure. The generation sources and storages in DC MGs should be chosen in order to meet the maximum demand in both grid-connected and islanded mode. Also, penetration of power electronic based devices is essential to connect these resources to the network. The control of these devices are another challenge in this regard. So, a proper configuration along with an efficient control approach is needed for development of DC MGs. In this paper, a new structure for DC MG is presented which includes solar photovoltaic (PV) as generation sources and supercapacitor and battery as storages. Furthermore, an innovative control method based on voltage variations is introduced for the proposed structure. It is shown that simultaneous usage of battery and supercapacitor improves the performance of the MG in handling the abrupt load changes in the both grid-connected and islanded mode operations. To evaluate the performance of the proposed structure and control algorithm, different conditions are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software and the results are presented. The results confirm a high degree of performance for proposed structure and control method.

The emergence of fog computing has led to the design of multi-layer fog computing models which are organized hierarchically. These models commonly dictate the hierarchical structure to all the participating compute nodes. However, organizing the compute nodes by adding customized connections that do not abide by the hierarchical approach, may result in improved performance due to the network's properties i.e., latency or bandwidth between the nodes. For this reason, in this paper we propose an alternative to the hierarchical approach, which is the self-organizing compute nodes. These nodes organize themselves into a flat model which leverages on the network's properties to provide improved performance. The results of the evaluation show that this approach reduces bandwidth utilization (similar to 30%) by using optimized messaging instead of direct messaging. Furthermore, we show that following a flat model, enables the design of mechanisms for fault tolerance which has been mostly neglected in existing hierarchical models.
