the typical way of blood sugar measurement is to collect a drop of blood by pricking the finger tip and analyzing it. This method requires new prick on the tip of finger for every measurement. Even though the continuous blood glucose monitoring is very important for blood glucose level control and management, it can be invasive (with penetrating the skin) and inconvenient especially during daily life. The currently available Glucometers which can be used by the patient at home are invasive and costlier which needs fresh testing strips for each test. Non-invasive (without penetrating the skin) glucose monitoring techniques have got extensive research, leveraging techniques such as infrared spectroscopy. We introduce a non-invasive glucose measuring system that detects the sugar level in the blood with the help of NIR spectroscopy.

In this paper, a comparative study of the available important passive islanding techniques used for distributed generation is carried out. The following passive methods are compared and analyzed: under/over voltage, under/over frequency, rate of change of frequency, voltage unbalance and total harmonic distortion, rate of change of active and reactive power, rate of change of phase angle difference, and rate of change of negative- and positive-sequence current methods. The above methods are tested and compared for numerous islanding and non-islanding cases by generating data on the ieee 399-1997 system through PSCAD/EMTDC software.

Intelligent agriculture has the potential of increasing sustainability and productivity in the field of agriculture and livestock, through efficient and precise use of resources. Thus, this technology gives the possibility of promoting growth in developing countries through automation and control of repetitive farming activities, such as monitoring the level of water and feed in the feeders, which allows farmers to save time. However, the implementation of an automatic feed and water level control system in a livestock enclosure requires a large investment in silo scales, which may be too expensive for an SME. Thanks to the evolution of IoT devices, it is possible to reduce the cost of this implementation while integrating new functionalities and interactions through the interconnection of devices with cloud solutions. This work presents a new system that allows to monitor the quantity and quality of food and water in a silo by estimating volume in real time. Moreover, it has an additional functionality;temperature and humidity estimation in a livestock enclosure. The hardware system will be managed by a multi-agent system in charge of the processes of managing the data, managing the quantity of food and water supplied to each feeder. The use of a multi-agent architecture allows for the development of a distributed solution that provides great possibilities for future analysis, for example through a massive data analysis. The case study results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, it has provided the ideal amount of feed and water to the animals, controlling the quality of grain and water, reducing the number of colics caused by overfeeding. In addition, the time the farmer must spend on the farm reduces considerably.

The use of machine learning modeling techniques enables smart IoT applications in geo-distributed infrastructures such as in the areas of Industry 4.0, smart cities, autonomous driving, and telemedicine. The data for these models is continuously emitted by sensor-equipped devices. It is usually unlabeled and commonly has dynamically-changing data distribution, which impedes the learning process. However, many critical applications such as telemedicine require highly accurate models and human supervision. Therefore, online supervised learning is often utilized, but its application remains challenging as it requires continuous labeling by experts, which is expensive. To reduce the cost, active learning (AL) strategies are used for efficient data selection and labeling. In this paper we propose a novel AL framework for IoT applications, which employs data selection strategies throughout the multiple layers of distributed IoT architectures. This enables an improved utilization of the available resources and reduces costs. The results from the evaluation using classification and regression tasks and synthetic as well as real-world datasets in multiple settings show that the use of multilayer AL can significantly reduce communication, expert costs, and energy, without a loss in model performance. We believe that this study motivates the development of new techniques that employ selective sampling strategies on data streams to optimize the resource usage in IoT architectures.

The purpose of a vehicular network is to provide better safety and infotainment services to the users through an effective communication. To attain this, ieee802.11p standard is developed with Enhanced distributed Channel Access (EDCA) contention-based priority-oriented medium access method. In this method, the backoff algorithm selects the Contention Window (CW) size randomly from the range (0, CW). The lower bound for this range is always fixed as zero, irrespective of the backoff stages and congestion in the network. This causes the backoff procedure to select the smaller value even when the network is heavily congested thus increasing collisions and congestion. To resolve this unbalanced backoff interval problem, this paper proposes a Channel Status based Contention Algorithm (CSCA) which regulates the backoff interval based on the number of retransmission attempts by packets and vehicle density for the non-safety applications. The network simulation is carried out using NS3 along with SUMO for highway traffic and results are shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms the default EDCA and Adaptive EDCA (A-EDCA) methods in terms of packet collision rate, throughput and delay. © 2020 The Authors. In this modern civilization, bigger dams have gained more significance with its effective utilization to generate power and other primary resources required in our everyday lives. Ostensibly, dams are one reason that created nations have made so much monetary progress. Pretty much consistently to-day movement relies on the usefulness of dams. Despite the hype, it also have a number of challenges in the evaluation of current status of the dams, which later arises the need to refresh the data at regular intervals to appropriately evaluate the current dam status. In order to automate the functionality of dams, an IoT framework has been developed with the advanced remote sensing features. The proposed framework has the ability to initiate constant alarms regarding the current status of the dam and also intimates when the dam qualities has been changed from the normal conditions. To enhance the wear and tear in the structure of dams, a temperature sensor has been employed. In a nutshell, the proposed architecture aims to automate the working process of dams irrespective of their traditional diverse conditions.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is one of the most emerging areas in research due to widely used applications. WSN can be deployed in remote areas to sense the information. This lead to the impossibility of replacement and recharging of battery. So for maximum collection of information, we need to use the deployed WSN in very efficient way. Clustering is one method to enhance the lifetime of network by reducing the energy consumption during data collection process. In the proposed approach, we have suggested an approach for clustering based on four attributes: cluster head coverage, cluster head lifetime, average distance to CH and maximum power of nodes. The coordination among these attributes selects the optimal Cluster Heads (CHs) so that minimum energy would be consumed during data collection process. The results verifies the superiority of proposed algorithm over base algorithm and LEACH algorithm.

Concurrent ranging exploits features of the channel impulse response (CIR) of received packets to allow an ultra-wideband (UWB) initiator node to concurrently measure the distance from multiple UWB responder nodes. Concurrent ranging enables indoor localization systems to reduce the required number of ranging packet exchanges, leading to less air utilization and energy consumption, and faster location update rate. Despite the research in this area, it is still challenging to build a practical UWB concurrent ranging system for real-world environments. Existing concurrent ranging solutions are not scalable because (1) they require strong assumptions about either the responders or the environment and (2) they fail to maintain the ranging accuracy in longer distances due to errors caused by clock drift. In this work, we present R3, a Reflection Resilient Ranging solution, to address these critical scalability issues in UWB concurrent ranging. R3 makes use of the difference in the time deviation of ranging signals to detect concurrent responders and it is equipped with a clock skew correction method that enables accurate concurrent ranging in long distances. We evaluate R3 using Decawave DW1000 UWB chip by deploying the radio nodes in an office environment. Our results show that R3 effectively detects concurrent ranging peaks in the presence of strong multipath. When we equip R3 with a clock skew correction method, it reduces the concurrent ranging error induced by clock drift by at least 54 cm in long distances (> 50 m) and by more than 97% in average when the ranging response delay is arbitrarily large.

The purpose of this paper was to obtain a setting relay coordination on a multiloop model power distribution system using the firefly algorithm. Continuity of electrical power system distribution must be maintained. Electric power system network models have been updated starting from the radial, loop and the new one is the multiloop system. Multiloop system was also very suitable for systems that have been integrated with distributed generation (DG). DG is a combination of small-scale power plants with the main source and is placed scattered, such as unrenewable and renewable energy such as photovoltaics, wind turbines, and micro-hydro. But the problem of extinction due to external interference can be suppressed to a minimum with good and fast coordination of the relay. Setting Relay coordination on multiloop systems, it is more complex than the radial and loop system. To get a fast and optimal setting relay on a multiloop system, we can calculate relay settings uses an optimization algorithm. One of them is the firefly optimization algorithm. The firefly algorithm is an algorithm that applies the behavior of fireflies based on the intensity of the light. By using a firefly optimization algorithm to get the value of the relay protection coordination settings will shorten the manual calculation, get the value of the setting quickly, and the most optimal. From the optimization results using the firefly algorithm obtained relay settings with an operating time of 14 relays reaching 3.717 seconds faster than 4.339 seconds compared to manual calculations.

The technology pertaining to gait generation, recognition and analysis is getting more sophisticated each day. The global demand for a gait-based dataset and its subsequent recognition, leading to extraction of valuable information is now higher than ever. However, inertial sensor-based gait dataset is a comparatively new addition to the field of gait analysis. Consequently, most of the research works incorporating machine learning algorithms into gait dataset are image based. In addition to that, most of the gait-based datasets have been analyzed for gait recognition. There remains very little research work on personal authentication from inertial sensor-based gait dataset. Personal authentication is of several types out of which, predicting gender and age is quite challenging. In this paper, we have tried to face these challenges and have manifested the process of predicting gender and age from the inertial sensor-based gait dataset which is a part of the vast Osaka University-ISIR Gait Database. Finally, we have found that the models, Support Vector Machine shows the highest accuracy for the problem of classifying gender and Decision Trees shows the highest variance score (R-2 value) for the problem of predicting age.
