In this article, we develop a comprehensive framework to characterize the performance of a drone assisted backscatter communication-based Internet of Things (IoT) sensor network. We consider a scenario where the drone transmits an RF carrier that is modulated by IoT sensor node (SN) to transmit its data. The SN implements load modulation which results in amplitude shift keying (ASK) type modulation for the impinging R F carrier. In order to quantify the performance of the considered network, we characterize the coverage probability for the ground based SN node. The statistical framework developed to quantify the coverage probability explicitly accommodates a dyadic backscatter channel which experiences deeper fades than that of the one-way Rayleigh channel. Our model also incorporates Line of Sight (LoS) and Non-LoS (NLoS) propagation states for accurately modelling large-scale path- loss between drone and SN. We consider spatially distributed SNs which can be modelled using a spatial Binomial Point Process (BPP). We practically implement the proposed system using Software Defined Radio (SDR) and a custom designed SN tag. The measurements of parameters such as noise figure, tag reflection coefficient etc., are used to parametrize the developed framework. Lastly, we demonstrate that there exists an optimal set of parameters which maximizes the coverage probability for the SN.

The emanate use of distributed energy sources in electricity grid has created new ultimatum for the utility load as regard to power quality, voltage stabilization and efficient energy utilization. Wind and Solar are considered as the most assuring source of renewable energy. However, the standalone operation of either Photo-voltaic or wind energy system does not offer a very reliable source of electricity production, mainly due to the unpredictability over the availability of the wind and solar irradiance. Thus, an assortment of wind and solar power generation structure can form a very much potential and reliable source of electricity. In this work a hybrid model of wind and Photo-voltaic system has been presented. This kind of system is very beneficial and useful to the remotely located or islanded areas where grid integration is not very economical. However, the interfacing of power electronic devices to DG systems induces very severe power quality problems, such as, harmonic generation and the reactive power compensation that disturbs the power distribution system. In this work, a simulation model of hybrid wind-PV generation system of capacity 750 KW has been presented. The performance of this system with grid connected mode is analyzed. The power quality of the wind-SPV hybrid system has been evaluated by calculating the total harmonics distortion (THD) at different wind speed. Power quality of this hybrid system has been improved by using D-STATCOM.

In this paper, we compare 4 learning projection models between sensor domain and text domain for Zero-shot learning (ZSL). In traditional activity recognition with sensor data, the task of collecting training dataset is too tough and costly to apply for social. Our challenge is making the task efficient. The Zero-shot learning's purpose is to recognize the unknown activity which is activity class out of training dataset. In our previous research, we propose the Zero-shot learning method using the word vectors made from Wikipedia corpus for recognizing the human living activities like breakfast, watching TV, etc. We found that this method success to recognize unknown activities and need to improve the projection function for performance. In this paper, we construct 4 learning models for projection and evaluate them with accelerometer sensor data annotated simple activities. As a result, we realize that (1) the learning method with twice projection is useful for performance. (2) It is difficult to identify the two unknown activities whose distance from known activities is closer than that between other combination of two unknown activities and the known ones.

This work reports the manufacture of a Nano porous silicon (NPS) gas sensor and its butane detection mechanism. The sensor's resistance changes with the gas concentration. This transduction mechanism has been tested using a gas injection precalibration method. Nanopores were developed using HF-based wet electrochemical etching on p-type substrates. The presence of nanoporeson silicon has been confirmed and its morphology has been studied by SEM imagery and its uniform distribution has been demonstrated. Impedance spectroscopy was performed at room temperature and increased grain boundary resistance was observed for a range of 2-6 ppm of butane gas. © 2019 ieee.

As of late, it is seen that dustbins set at a different spots like open places, for example, healing centers, instructive Institutes and Industries are flooding. This flooding of refuse canisters make unhygienic condition which can spread the *** fast increment in populace squander offer ascent to inappropriate waste administration. To maintain a strategic distance from this circumstance, we proposed new framework " Smart City Garbage Collection and Monitoring System". In the recent decades, Urbanization has increased tremendously. In the meantime there is an expansion in waste creation. Waste management has been a pivotal issue to be considered. This paper is a way to deal with achieve this incredible inspiration. In this paper, smart bin is built on a microcontroller based platform Raspberry pi Uno board which is interfaced with GSM modem and Ultrasonic sensor and also the weight sensor which is used for calculating the weight of the dustbins. The weight sensor is placed at the bottom of the dustbins which will measure the weight of the dustbins and also The Ultrasonic sensor is placed at the top of the dustbin which will read the status of the dustbin. The threshold limit is set as 10cm Raspberry will be programmed in such a way that when the dustbin is being filled, the remaining height from the threshold height will be displayed. When the junk achieves the limit level ultrasonic sensor will trigger the GSM modem which will persistently caution the required evert until the trash in the dustbin is squashed. As indicated by the area, evert will sends the message to the separate administrator;waste vehicle can gather the refuse, which is finished with the assistance of robot component.

A shift in power system control paradigm from centralized to a distributed framework has been evident for the past years. With the adoption of distributed Energy Resources (DER) in the grid and the formation of the concept of microgrid (MG) that is now extended to the cooperation of multiple MGs to form Multi-Microgrid (MMG) systems, a distributed control framework has deemed to be more feasible for such systems. However, distributed control relies heavily on communication to achieve the system objective that in reality is not perfect at all times. In this paper, a fully distributed AC Optimal Power Flow (OPF) control algorithm with resilience from failure of communication infrastructure is presented. In the algorithm, missing parameters are estimated using time-series estimation methods and an additional control layer is added to ensure supply-demand balance in the system. The algorithm was tested in different network configurations of a MMG system with different degrees of communication failure and the results show that using the control algorithm, the system was able to achieve supply-demand balance at the least possible cost of generation.

In this paper, we propose a hybrid activity recognition method for ballroom dance exercise using video and wearable sensor. The purpose of our research is to design a mechanism to support ballroom dance exercise, and this paper reports the first part to design a mechanism is to support ballroom dance exercise, and this paper reports the first outcome to achieve the purpose - recognizing ballroom dance exercise. There are two conceivable ways to recognize dance exercise: videos and wearable sensor. However, each of them has its disadvantages. Using video is a good way to recognize the movement of the body. However, it cannot provide us accurate timing or strength of foot actions because the number of their flames per seconds is too small to recognize the fast movements of dancers. On the other hand, while a wearable sensor is good at recognizing foot timing and strength, it is not good at recognizing the movement of the whole body. Therefore we propose a hybrid recognition method utilizing the merits of both video and wearable sensor. This paper focuses to recognize four different types of steps in Latin American, a kind of ballroom dance. For each step, we record wearable sensing data and videos. As a result, it is found that the accuracy of step recognition is improved by adding wearable sensing data to video data shot from two different angles.

Wireless Rechargeable sensor Network (WRSN) becomes a hot research issue in recent years owing to the breakthrough of wireless power transfer technology. Most prior arts concentrate on developing scheduling schemes in 2-D networks where mobile chargers are placed on the ground. However, few of them are suitable for 3-D scenarios, making it difficult or even impossible to popularize in practical applications. In this paper, we focus on the problem of charging a 3-D WRSN with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to maximize charged energy within energy constraints. To deal with the problem, we propose a spatial discretization scheme to obtain a finite feasible charging spot set for UAV in 3-D environment and a temporal discretization scheme to determine charging duration for each charging spot. Then, we transform the problem into a submodular maximization problem with routing constraints, and present a cost-efficient approximation algorithm with a provable approximation ratio of e-1/4e(1 - epsilon) to solve it. Lastly, extensive simulations and test-bed experiments show the superior performance of our algorithm.

Reliable and trustful data aggregation is an important to be addressed in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). In this paper, we proposed a new technique to protect key and data in data aggregation called Secure Data Aggregation to Preserve Data and Key Privacy in Wireless sensor Networks with Multiple Sinks (SAPDKP). The multiple sinks concepts used in this method consume less energy in the computational and communicational overhead. The security issues such as data confidentiality, data integrity, data freshness and data authentication are preserved in this technique. It uses very simple technique to perform aggregation and encryption. The multiple sink nodes perform analysis to identify the distrustful group and retransmission of data takes place for that group. Our simulation result proved that implementation of SAPDKP decreases the communication overhead and energy consumption compared with existing work. The multiple sinks concept increases the reliability of data and also reduces the number of data transmission in the network. © 2019 ieee.

Orienteering is a long-distance outdoor sport, in which electronic timing system plays an important role. However, the current production of electronic timing equipment technology on the Chinese market is still less developed in weight, volume, power consumption and other technical indicators compared with the international manufacturers in advanced level. Non-contact timer still has a big gap, and the price is too expensive, bulky and lack of portability. In order to solve this problems and improve the quality of directional movement of electronic timing equipment, this article adopted the new SoC as a master plan, design and implement a set of low power consumption, low cost, portable and reliable directional movement of the timing system, innovating the NFC tags and Sub-G communications functions. © 2019 ieee.
