One of the most important and diverse topics of the modern research landscape is Industry 4.0. Apart from tasks like management of energy or flexible production processes, autonomous industrial robots play a crucial role in this context. Because of the lacking accuracy of global navigation systems in indoor environments, other radio-based methods are required for indoor localization. In this paper, we present a cost-efficient approach that fuses the data of established sensors of autonomous robots with a radio-based method. Signal strength measurements are used for Direction of Arrival estimation, yielding the advantage that no prior information about the environment is required for localizing the object in contrast to the widespread Fingerprinting. The radio-based concept is supported in this work by odometry measurements of the mobile platform. By fusing these information, the concept of a low-cost and powerful localization method is introduced. To allow for an efficient fusion concept, we perform a detailed stochastic characterization of all utilized sensors and motion models. The potential of the localization approach is validated by various differing simulation scenarios and real life measurements.

Capacity of Clustered distributed Storage

A new system model reflecting the clustered structure of distributed storage is suggested to investigate interplay between storage overhead and repair bandwidth as storage node failures occur. Large data centers with multiple racks/ disks or local networks of storage devices (e. g., sensor network) are good applications of the suggested clustered model. In realistic scenarios involving clustered storage structures, repairing storage nodes using intact nodes residing in other clusters are more bandwidth consuming than restoring nodes based on information from intra-cluster nodes. Therefore, it is important to differentiate between intra-cluster repair bandwidth and cross-cluster repair bandwidth in modeling distributed storage. Capacity of the suggested model is obtained as a function of fundamental resources of distributed storage systems, namely, node storage capacity, intra-cluster repair bandwidth, and cross-cluster repair bandwidth. The capacity is shown to be asymptotically equivalent to a monotonic decreasing function of number of clusters, as the number of storage nodes increases without bound. Based on the capacity expression, feasible sets of required resources which enable reliable storage are obtained in a closed-form solution. Specifically, it is shown that the cross-cluster traffic can be minimized to zero (i.e., intra-cluster local repair becomes possible) by allowing extra resources on storage capacity and intra-cluster repair bandwidth, according to the law specified in the closed form. The network coding schemes with zero cross-cluster traffic are defined as intra-cluster repairable codes, which are shown to be a class of the previously developed locally repairable codes.

With the recent statistics from a growing number of fatalities due to drowning in swimming pools. Studies show that the errors resulting in drowning are mainly from a lack of focus from lifeguards and guardians, if they are present, especially within large and underlit swimming pools. In this paper, a novel method allowing precise positioning, efficient identification, and timely alarms to help rescue swimmers from drowning are proposed. The purpose of this study is to mainly focus on determining whether swimmers are drowning or not while they are in the pool. Ultrasonic transmitters and receivers are used to determine the swimmer position. Hydraulic pressure detectors are also used to determine how deep the swimmer is going. The hydraulic data is transmitted wirelessly to be processed. Hence, to confirm the efficiency of this proposed method, an acoustic simulator has been used to analyze the distance information obtained by the ultrasonic waves. The results verify that the proposed algorithm can precisely calculate the 3D position of the swimmer. Then the swimmer's movement information can be analyzed to determine whether the swimmer is drowning or not. If drowning is detected, the system will set the alarm.

We present the design of a low-power 3rd order sigma-delta (Sigma Delta) modulator targeted for sensor applications. The circuit is implemented in the 22 nm Fully Depleted Silicon on Insulator (FDSOI) CMOS process technology from GlobalFoundries. The modulator features a single-loop feed-forward architecture. Low-voltage operation of the fully-differential switched-capacitor based modulator is achieved with enhanced bootstrapped switches for highly linear sampling, and operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) operating in weak inversion. The on-chip area of the modulator is 0.193 mm(2). The measurement results show that operating over a signal bandwidth of 500 Hz at a nominal supply voltage of 0.8 V and a sampling rate of 512 kHz, the modulator achieves a peak signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio (SNDR) of 89 dB and a dynamic range of 94 dB. The total average power consumption of the designed modulator, including that of the auxiliary circuits, is 170 mu W.

In order to realize the timely and accurate alarm for abnormal conditions in train carriage, a scheme of safety warning system based on zigbee technology is proposed. The hardware and software architecture of the system are designed. Meanwhile, the workflow and implementation process of each node are elaborated in detail. The system is composed of five parts: sensor node, zigbee router, coordinator, video module and the intelligent terminal. Firstly, the decibels received by the sound sensor are judged through threshold and sent to the coordinator through zigbee router module. Secondly, the video module analyzes the video of the alarming carriage by means of artificial intelligence. Finally, the detailed alarm information is sent to the intelligent terminal. The development cost of the system is low and its installation and maintenance is convenient. It improves the monitoring facilities of train carriages, which can guarantee the accuracy and real-time of the warning. It has good expansibility and portability, which is of practical significance for improving the safety of train operation. © 2019 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been lately recognized as a trust-worthy innovation for many applications, for example, defence, ambient and physiology-monitoring. A WSN includes stationing of hundreds or thousands of minor sensor hubs that communicate remotely with each other to detect explicit activities in a field of intrigue. The way towards gathering tactile information from sensor hubs and returning back to the handling unit (e.g., sink hub) is called data gathering. In network-oriented gathering, single-hop strategy involves the information being transmitted specifically from the source hub to the sink;which includes high power utilization and transmission from source hub to sink through multi-hops with other system hub as the intermediate hub or nodes. This procedure prompts data congestion, increased dormancy and high energy utilization, especially for hubs situated close to the sink, because of the gigantic measure of information stream. To mitigate these issues, a portable emissary (PE) was proposed in order to give an alternative approach for customary information gathering procedures in WSNs. Furthermore, visiting center based approach (VCBPE) is proposed with the goal that versatile hubs need not venture out to each hub for information gathering.

According to the scenario of the last few decades, sensor-based human activity recognition has gained considerable research attention due to its novel applications in health care, machine learning, human-computer interaction, etc. In this research, we have investigated several data pre-processing methods to recognize static and dynamic activities more accurately based on smartphone sensor data. The addition of magnitude and jerk-based features ensure the recognition of activities independent of the orientation of the smartphone in daily life. Besides, we have proposed a new feature namely Average peak-trough-distance (APTD), which ensures better recognition accuracy. We have also discussed a sliding window technique without overfitting, which utilizes observation of test data from previous windows with 50% overlapping for the detection of activity in real-time. Moreover, we have evaluated our proposed method showing a comparison between four classifiers. We have found the best accuracy for HASC2010corpus dataset using our proposed feature along with the multi-class Support Vector Machine, where we have utilized the Grid Search Cross Validation optimization technique to tune the hyper-parameters. We have also shown that the proposed approach outperforms the naive methods for the detection of activity using smartphones more precisely in real-time applications.

An analysis of problem of the fragmentation of distributed database data showed that the formal model is the so-called integer linear programming problem with Boolean variables. Unfortunately, the task of the ILP with the BP belongs to the class NP (non-deterministic polynomial), which can easily be solved even with the use of modern *** proposed method of parallel computing for fragmentation of distributed database data is based on the ranking approach to its solutions, the principles of optimization in the direction and strategies, for cutting off non-prospective solutions. The method allows us to determine the local extrema at the vertices of the graph and determine the global extremum on their basis. © 2019 ieee.
