The proliferation of sensors and measurement devices has provided information for the planning and operation of distributed energy resources (DERs). Year-round profiles of electricity demand and renewable energy sources show the variation of these parameters. Clustering can be used to identify representative days to capture this variability as applied to finding the optimal sizes of the DERs. In this work, groups of representative days were generated out of the combinations of options during the pre- and post-processing of the clustering algorithm. An additional option is presented such that the comparison of the cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) of the representative days and all days serves as a criterion in selecting the representative days. Comparison is implemented through the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. To evaluate this additional option, the groups of representative days were used to generate DER designs through a mixed integer linear programming (MILP)-based microgrid model. Simulation on these design using all days of load and meteorological data instead of the representative days computed for the respective net present cost and the load-not-served. The clustering options that effectively capture variability were determined by comparing these techno-economics to those defined in the MILP-based model. Results show that the inclusion of the CDF as a criterion improves the load-not-served. The optimal design that has the lowest net present cost was also found through this criterion.

Unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) have a huge development potential in both civilian and military fields, and have become the focus of research in various countries. In addition, high-precision, high-reliability sensors are significant for UGVs' efficient operation. This paper proposes a brief review on sensor technologies for UGVs. Firstly, characteristics of various sensors are introduced. Then the strengths and weaknesses of different sensors as well as their application scenarios are compared. Furthermore, sensor applications in some existing UGVs are summarized. Finally, the hotspots of sensor technologies are forecasted to point the development direction.

Optimal siting and sizing of distributed generators (DGs) and capacitors helps in enhancing the overall performance of distribution system. A proficient method to optimally allocate DGs and shunt capacitors in distribution system is proposed in this paper. The major objectives of the work are power loss reduction, voltage profile improvement and operating cost minimization. A standard ieee 33 bus test system with constant power load at various load levels is considered for the analysis. Optimal siting of DGs and capacitors is carried out using sensitivity analysis technique. Further Flower pollination algorithm is employed for optimal sizing of DGs and capacitors and the results are compared with few other noteworthy methods.

Due to the advantages of XLPE cable, it is frequently used in power transmission and distribution systems. For long-term use, there are inevitable insulation defects. To detect the status of cable insulation, an improved capacitive sensor that fully covers the cable is proposed, which can be used for nondestructive monitoring of cable insulation, especially for cable joints. In this paper, the geometric structure of the fully-covered interdigital capacitance sensor is designed, and a 3D model of the sensor is built with COMSOL Multiphysics. Three parameters i.e. signal strength, sensitivity and penetration depth are defined for sensor optimization. The influences of electrode length, width, and thickness on interdigital capacitance sensors are discussed. When the length exceeds 5 cm, the length of the electrode does not affect the sensitivity. Electrodes with larger width lead to better signal strength and sensitivity, but the penetration depth decreases. With the increase in the electrode number, the signal strength increases while the sensitivity and penetration depth decrease. Taking YJV1*185 cable as an example, the electrodes of equal width and with a thickness of 0.02-0.12 mm could achieve better measurement results.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), location information of sensor nodes (or simply sensors) plays a vital role in both of the management of WNSs and many other applications. Due to the constraints on costs and energy, only a small portion of nodes in a WSN is deployed as anchor nodes or simply anchors with their locations a priori known or determined through certain hardware (e.g. GPS) to localize normal sensor nodes. However, the placement of such anchors has significant influence on the localization performance of sensor nodes. This paper tackles the problem of optimal anchor placement for localization in large-scale WSNs. But, differently from existing studies assuming independent and identically distributed measurement noises, this paper takes into account more practical distance dependent measurement noises. Then, provided that sensors' locations satisfy a homogeneous Poisson Point process, a theoretical analysis based on the average Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) proves that it is optimal to place anchors in a regular fashion. In particular, given that each sensor can measure distances to nearby 3 anchors, the optimal anchor placement pattern is the equilateral triangle pattern, which is consistent with the optimal node deployment for 3-coverage and 6-connectivity. This study not only provides the knowledge for guiding the deployment of large-scale WSNs in practice, but also paves the way for building the theory of sensor localization in WSNs. © 2019 ieee.

In this paper, a hardware set up based on programmable logic controller (PLC) and human machine interface (HMI) with variable speed AC drives (VSDs), is introduced and discussed. The main objectives are to provide constant linear paper winder speed and tension operation, over the whole zones of the machine, irrespective of variation of radius and inertia of un-winder and re-winder parts of the machine. The proposed setup components and PLC algorithm are discussed and the practical results are obtained and analyzed for validation of the hardware setup over an industrial paper slitter machine. The proposed sensor-less tension control algorithm is based on counting the number of pulses at the nip-roll using encoder, then be used to calculate the changes in both un-winder and re-winder roll diameters. The PLC calculates the required reference torque and angular speeds for both un-winder and re-winder drives to keep the material operation at constant tension and line speed during the whole machine without the need of any tension sensor at any zones.

With the advancement of power reform, the scale of inter-provincial power trading in the East China region has been increasing, the scale of transactions has been expanding. More and more parameters arc being considered, and the calculation processing logic is more and more complicated. In order to cope with the situation that the market rules change too fast and the complexity is too high, the East China Power Trading System will introduce a distributed technology architecture based on cloud computing and microservices. However, this process from the single-element architecture to the distributed architecture puts higher demands on the multi-task scheduling processing mechanism of the system. Based on the analysis of East China Power Market Trading Business and East China Power Market Trading System, this paper proposes a task scheduling solution based on distributed control strategy with reference to the solution ideas of the Internet industry. It solves the scheduling problem of mutual exclusion tasks by using the improved Leader election method and effectively avoids the brain crack problem of the Leader election. Based on this distributed task processing strategy, this paper further elaborates the corresponding engineering solutions. It includes the specific implementation contents of task management interface, task scheduling center, task scheduling client and abnormal monitoring function in East China Power Market Trading System, so as to facilitate the practical application of system design and development personnel in system construction. In addition, the program also proved the feasibility of the program through stress testing and application practice.
