Lightning locating system (LLS) is employed to detect lightning occurrences in single station or multi-station systems. There is a variety of lightning locating systems based on the detection of propagated electromagnetic signals of lightning discharge. A parallel plate antenna is used to receive the vertical components of the electric field. The antenna is connected to a buffer circuit by a coaxial cable. The buffer circuit acts as a filter, an over voltage protector, and an impedance matching. A Global Positioning System (GPS) is also installed to capture the time stamps of received signals in sub nano-second precision. Each station is made up of hardware and software implementations. The hardware component of each station consists of a parallel plate antenna which is selected because of its ability of detecting the vertical component of the lightning electric field in a wide range of frequencies. A Matlab program is written to solve the non-linear equations for the lightning locating system based on the detected arrival times using measuring stations. Several lightning measuring stations will be designed, constructed and installed. This study investigates the hardware design, testing and installation of the stations.

The safety issues in the UAV landing process have recently attracted widespread attention. This paper proposes a multi-sensor data fusion algorithm based on Bayes estimation to achieve precise positioning during the autonomous landing of the drone. This method uses outlier detection, state estimation, and data fusion to analyze and process measurement data from multiple sensors in real time to obtain the best real-time data during the autonomous landing of the drone. The simulation results show that this algorithm has good accuracy and robustness in solving the landing guidance problem, can initially achieve autonomous landing guidance for drones, and also has important reference value for the future realization of carrier-based aircraft autonomous landing and fighter precise guidance.

Indoor, underground, or underwater three-dimensional (3D) localization provides fundamental support to the applications of mobile wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In these applications, a single robot cannot work, as there are no GPS signals and few references for the robot to loalizae itself in the large in-door spaces. Existing in-door localization approaches usually rely on the projection of the 3D topology graph onto a horizontal plane. Such projection is infeasible in a narrow vertical space, either, since it requires three location-known nodes, called anchors, as reference nodes on a large horizontal plane. In this paper, we propose a new distributed 3D localization protocol, FlagLoc, for the mobile WSNs. FlagLoc uses a flag that is composed of three anchor nodes on a plane of any angle to start the localization and to lead the network motion of a mobile WSN. Furthermore, FlagLoc compensates for distance and motion measurement errors. The evaluation shows that FlagLoc significantly outperforms the existing state-of-the-art schemes in terms of accuracy.

In recent times, the advent of technology such as Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), computing etc., information technology has witnessed a paradigm shift in tackle problems, live our daily lives, interact with each other and respond to issues of our daily lives. Generally, the IoT is a network of interconnected nodes or computers that sense gather and transmit/communicate data to relevant nodes for action and decision making. Even though we have a series of vital sign monitors ranging from manually operated to analogue and digital sensors, they are all stand-alone devices which are not connected to the patient's doctor in real-time. In this paper, the Remote Health Monitoring (RHM) system can sense certain human vital signs such as, temperature, respiration and heartbeat (pulse) which is connected in real time environment. RHM system is built on Arduino UNO board which houses other microcontrollers and sensor paired with IOT Gecko, which is further designed in a way that physicians can view patient's vital sign reading in real-time irrespective of their geographical location. When these body vital signs fall below or above normal parameters, the system triggers an alarm, giving physicians the opportunity to carry out timely individualized intervention on patients in crisis. Two different devices (Omron digital Temperature monitor, ChoiceMMed heart rate monitor) were taken for study and the results were compared with RHM system. The accuracy of the system was evaluated and it was found that +/-0.5 degrees. Hence we can conclusively say that RHM delivers accurate reading with better functionality. © 2019 ieee.

With the popularity of the Internet of things (IoT), 5G technology needs to meet various requirements of a large number of IoT applications. Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a promising approach in 5G scenario, which can solve the problems of resource shortage and high latency. Computation offloading is a key technology to reduce latency and energy consumption in MEC. In this paper, we consider a scenario with a dense distribution of edge nodes, namely multi-edge server distribution, and focus on the offloading problem in the overlapping coverage area of service scope. We build a two-step game model using the stochastic game theory. We pay attention to the relevance of state transition, that is, the cost of the next state is taken into account when making decisions in current state. In addition, we prove the existence of Nash Equilibrium (NE) by the concept of exact potential game, then propose the best response based on stochastic game (BRSG) algorithm to solve the problem. Numerical results illustrate that our algorithm can reach a NE through finite number of iterations, and an equilibrium strategy can be obtained. Besides, considering the state correlation makes the equilibrium cost significantly lower. © 2019 ieee.

With the development of distributed power generation, power distribution and control strategies of distribution networks have become hotspots of research. In order to suppress the system power fluctuations caused by distributed generation, hybrid energy storage solutions using energy storage units (ESs) with different power characteristics are adopted to stabilize DC bus voltage fluctuations and optimize the operation status of batteries and super capacitors distributed control strategy for hybrid energy storage system (HESS), in which the battery unit and super capacitor battery unit are set as slack terminals for droop control. Different types of energy storage units choose different sag coefficients. Aiming at the problem of SOC equilibrium during the operation of multi-battery energy storage units, a variable droop coefficient control strategy based on SOC was designed to adjust the power allocation twice. In order to verify the proposed method, a MATLAB / Simulink model is established, and simulation results verify that compared with traditional droop control, the improved variable droop coefficient control strategy can achieve multi-cell SOC equalization and super capacitor SOC fast recovery.

Like the current digitalization process [1], digitalization in the Smart Home and Smart Building goes beyond seeing digital systems as individual elements or isolated solutions. In principle, solutions must be developed that enable comprehensive networking and barrier-free data exchange to support the numerous new application scenarios [2]. Nowadays, in a typical smart home, there exist a large number of miscellaneous devices and systems with different characteristics. Using their sensors and actuators, these devices and systems can form an interface to the real world and can make their measurements available in near real time. Furthermore, it is possible to provide a digital representation of an entire Smart Home or Building using a socalled Digital Twin. Digital Twins can not only represent the current state of the underlying systems, but also the history of the data for learning processes in a semantic context. Hence, they can provide interfaces to AI systems in a service environment. In this paper, we present an approach which uses the WoT Thing Description (TD) as standardized by the W3C [3] as the basis for the implementation of a novel Digital Twin for Smart Homes and Buildings. The use of the standardized TD model enables interoperability across manufacturers and devices. The goal is to make extended services more flexible and dynamic on the basis of semantic device type and building descriptions of Digital Twins.

This paper introduces a micro-grid implementation in a real time model of the ieee 13-node test feeder to establish a quantified real-time platform. Solar photovoltaic electricity and wind turbines used in micro grids are considered as non-conventional energy sources. The main of this research work is to understand the useful concept for incorporating environmental friendly sources and analysis, where micro-grid performs along with the micro-grid response and the system reliability response as required. At the relevant bus, the renewable sources (i.e. PV system & wind generator) are linked to the imbalance the radial feeder. Micro-grid is a system that interacts with resources across the central grid through the distribution system but it can operate independently. Using the Matlab Simulink software to model a micro-grid with a three-phase unbalanced power supply together with battery as a storage device. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in the voltage and current profile of different time-shifting buses.

Non-volatile (NV) devices are actively considered for compact and high performance memory architectures, especially in-memory computing (IMC) designs where processing and memory elements are co-located to address the memory wall issues for data-intensive applications. Content addressable memories (CAMs) are a form of IMC that compares the input query data against the stored data in parallel, and outputs the comparison result in terms of match or mismatch. Numerous CAMs have been proposed based on NV devices and demonstrate superior area, energy and performance metrics over the CMOS based conventional ones. Unlike the prior works that exploit the NV devices in the digital domain, in this paper, we proposed an analog CAM design, which utilizes the analog characteristics of Ferroelectrics field effect transistor (FeFET) to achieve a denser storage and search operations in analog domain. We illustrate our proposed analog CAM through a device-circuit co-design approach, and validate the 3-bit storage and search capability of the proposed design. The scalability of the proposed design is also examined. Evaluation results suggests that our analog CAM can achieve 22.4 × higher memory density, and 8.6 × higher energy efficiency compared with the conventional CMOS based design.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a modern technology that uses radio frequencies to identify tags rapidly. However, since tags share the communication channel, a collision is occurred when more than one tag communicate with the reader simultaneously which results in a data transmission failure. Many tree-based protocols were proposed to resolve such conflictions in the past decade. Most of them were requiring a uniform distribution of tag IDs, which means that they were close related to the tag ID distribution. In fact, the tag IDs usually are not distributed uniformly especially in a large-scale RFID system. For example, in a large shopping mall, the tag IDs of all the merchandize can be classified into several groups depending on the number different vendors for providing all the merchandise. Since all the tag IDs of merchandise for the same vendor can contain the same prefix bits in their tag IDs, such distribution can be classified as the sequential tag ID distribution. The influence of sequential distribution of tag IDs on the protocol's behavior is studied in this paper. We propose a new scheme called Enhanced Flexible Query Window Tree (EFQwT) protocol to improve the performance of tag identification process. Our purpose is to design an effective anti-collision protocol to identify tag IDs that are distributed sequentially. The simulation results indicate that the proposed EFQwT protocol significantly reduces the time and energy consumption of identifying sequential tag IDs.
