Voltage stability and reliability is the major concern in radial distribution system (rdS). Customer far away from the substation faces voltage reliability and system fluctuation issues. These issues should be resolved through different methodologies under smart grid paradigm. Studies proved that loop and mesh distribution systems (MDS) show better voltage reliability and stability than rdS. A comparative study of different load models is done in terms of losses, voltage profile and cost of active power losses in both radial and mesh distribution system. Two different multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) techniques PROMETHEE and Weighted product model (WPM) are used to identifying the best decision by considering active power loss, voltage and cost of active power cost attributes. A distinctive voltage stability index (VSI) is used to find the critical bus which is highly sensitive to voltage collapse. The bus having lowest VSI value is the most critical bus which is optimal location for siting the distributed generation unit (DG). VSI is evaluated for both radial and mesh distribution network. Different load models; constant power (CP) and constant impedance (CZ) models are used in this paper. The impacts of CZ and CP load models have been observed on voltage profiles and system losses on ieee 33 bus system.

While the popularity of high-resolution, computer-vision applications (e.g. mixed reality, autonomous vehicles) is increasing, there have been complementary advances in time-of-flight depth sensor resolution and quality. These advances in time-of-flight sensors provide a platform for new research into realtime, depth-upsampling algorithms targeted at high-resolution video systems with low-latency requirements. This paper describes a case study in which a previously developed bilateral-filter-style upsampling algorithm is profiled, parallelized, and accelerated on an FPGA using high-level synthesis tools from Xilinx We show that our accelerated algorithm can effectively upsample the resolution and reduce the noise of time-of-flight sensors. We also demonstrate that this algorithm exceeds the real-time requirements of 90 frames per second necessitated by mixed-reality hardware, achieving a lower-bound speedup of 40 times over the fastest CPU-only version.

The rapid advancements in the field of information technology particularly in cloud computing have enabled people to use various sophisticated and powerful techniques such as cloud collaboration, use of logistics information system, distributed management task force, mobile applications, knowledge engineering, artificial intelligence etc. These important techniques are applied in various diversified fields to handle lot of real life problems and issues such as disaster management, emergency relief, distribution management etc. This paper specifies a case study which aims to apply distributed data center in logistics as cloud collaboration for handling disaster relief. It also analyzes the role of logistics information system (LIS) in natural disaster activities for emergency relief and response. LIS supports distribution, tracking, tracing of goods and funds in all phases of disaster relief operations cycle in logistics. This study is based on Nepal earthquake, 2015, which proposes distributed data center and provides connectivity among the relief data centers/ organizations for sharing information at different locations by using LIS. The study depicts how relief data centers communicate to different relief organizations for various logistics needs by applying the proposed distributed data center. This particular LIS can be used to connect the data center at different locations andante disseminate information at reduce cost and time with immediate response in cloud environment. © 2018 ieee.

Artificial intelligence in food logistics has shown potential to substitute the First In First Out approach with much more promising First Expiring First Out approach. However, the shelf life prediction might be hindered by the amount of storage needed and by the amount of processing time elapsed between an event and appropriate system response. We use the data structure Count-Min (CM) sketch for approximating frequencies of critical ambient parameters (CAPs) in the cold-chain of peaches and nectarines. The CM sketch supports fast updates, but it also supports a trade-off between compression and error. This is important in the cold-chain setting because of the limited storage space in sensor nodes, but also because transmitting each sensed value increases energy consumption and introduces delays. In order to assess the trade-off between memory consumption and information loss, the actual values of CAPs with their estimates in various parameter settings are presented graphically. The estimates are obtained by querying the point estimator with the original dataset values. Errors are computed as differences between actual values and their estimates, and scaled by the number of instances.

The present work introduces a theoretical model and experimental validation of an Emitter-Receptor Slit based system (ERS) that uses an infrared light emitting diode (IRED) and a one-dimensional position sensitive detector (PSD). The radiation generated by the moving IRED passing through a slit creates a light beam which will form a light spot on the PSD photosensitive area. The PSD generates two photocurrents, function of the amount of received power, which values are used to calculate the position of the light spot center of gravity. The proper response modeling and characterization of the described system will help to define the design guidelines for a contactless position and orientation sensor, particularly suitable for local tool tracking in force feedback interfaces. © 2018 ieee.

We present an approach for estimating calorie intake given a limited number of foods provided to patients in an in-bed setting. Data collected from a proximity sensor, inertial measurement unit, ambient light, and audio sensor placed around the neck are used to classify food-type consumed by second using a random forest classifier. A multiple linear regression model is then developed for each food-type to map second-level features to calories per second. We conducted a user study in a patient simulated setting, where 10 participants were asked to eat on a patient bed. A user-independent analysis demonstrated food-type detection at 97.2% F1-Score, and an average Absolute Error of 3.0 kCal per food-type. Our method shows promise in distinguishing food items and predicting calorie intake in a bedridden setting given a limited set of food items.

The interconnection of sensor nodes is deployed to monitor physical phenomenon known as wireless sensor network (WSN). When an event occurs the congestion occurs in network near the nodes at sink. Support vector machine (SVM) is useful classification algorithm of machine *** this paper LibSVM(open source library for SVM) and SMO (sequential minimal optimization) algorithms are applied to build classifier for congestion detection into three levels low, medium and high using wireless sensor network traffic parameter data. The kernel function is used to map the non linearly separable data points into higher dimensions. The kernel used is radial basis function (RBF) as it has less computational complexity and it produces simple model. While choosing the model with RBF as kernel function, the parameters gamma (γ) and cost(c) plays important role. The aim of this paper is to find the good pair of (γ,c)values for sensor network data set. The grid search is performed with exponentially growing sequence of γ and c. The optimized model with gamma 23 and cost is 215 has been preferred for the sensor network traffic dataset based on percentage of accuracy and false positive rate. © 2018 ieee.

In recent technological trends, the cloud or the big data platform requires data gathered from multiple diverse networks especially for the visual analytics aspect. The nodes present in such networks always collect, process and transfer the essential data. So in such scenario power efficiency along with the bandwidth of the networks become the crucial factors as they both play an important role in maintaining the life and longevity of the networks;specifically that of the wireless networks. The devices which don't have a constant power source, are mostly battery driven, they are commonly the IoT devices, mobile phones, sensor nodes, smartwatches etc. So the design and development of a power efficient data routing protocol is always in demand and this research work is always perpetual from industry as well as academics aspect. Such research work also contributes towards green computing. In this paper a short study on the various protocols specialized for such task has been carried out and also the TEEN protocol is investigated experimentally. © 2018 ieee.

Today, we are witnessing the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT), where trillions of objects are interconnected and starting to re-define the design of the Internet and its services. In fact, IoT plays a prominent role in the realization of the smart city paradigm. One of the highly demanded services in a smart city infrastructure is to enable Networked Virtual Environment (NVE) class of applications, like collaborative Augmented Reality (AR), virtual walkthroughs, and Massively Multiplayer Online games (MMOGs), on mobile things. Perversely, pre-downloading and rendering a complex 3D graphics is very computationally intensive and neither commensurate with the current mobiles hardware specifications and their dynamic mobility natures nor with the available wireless bandwidth. In addition, most IoT environments are generally deployed via a service-centric architecture which obviously suffers from a single point of failure, service latency, and scalability issues between IoT gateways and mobile devices. In order to address these problems, a framework that combines the pros of both central and distributed based schemes has been proposed. The proposed hybrid framework, referred to as STREAMIT, facilitates the 3D texture streaming over thin devices to cope with the mobile hardware resources and alleviate the challenges of client-server and ad-hoc 3D streaming. In addition, STREAMIT implements adaptive strategies to select, prioritize, and convey 3D texture graphical objects that only contribute to the user's visible scene. STREAMIT has been evaluated using NS3 discrete network simulator where extensive experiments have confirmed big achievements in terms of resource utilization, latency, throughput, and overhead. © 2018 ieee.

In this paper, the cognitive radio sensor node can harvest energy from the radio frequency signal which is transmitted by the primary user. A time switching protocol was used to divide cognitive users' time into three phases: spectrum sensing mode, energy harvesting mode and data transmission mode. Therefore, the optimal energy harvesting mode time selection is a question to be solved. We consider a non-cooperative game model in which cognitive users are regarded as selfish players aiming to maximize their own energy efficiency. Then we prove the existence and uniqueness of Nash Equilibrium. A distributed best response algorithm is used to obtain the Nash Equilibrium. The simulation results prove that this algorithm can converge to the same equilibrium from different initial values. At last, we analysis the influence of various system parameters on the results of Nash Equilibrium and energy efficiency.
