The increasing integration of distributed Generation (DG) into power networks has brought forth new challenges related to efficient power flow management and power quality. The Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is a versatile device designed to address both voltage and current-related issues in DG systems. This paper explores the application of UPQC to optimize power flow within a DG system, ensuring smooth operation and enhanced reliability. Through comprehensive simulations, the study demonstrates how UPQC effectively manages power flow by compensating for voltage fluctuations, mitigating harmonics, and regulating reactive power, both in grid-connected and islanded modes. The results highlight UPQC's role in maintaining stable power flow while improving overall system efficiency, contributing to more resilient and balanced power distribution. By integrating UPQC, this research offers a robust solution to the challenges of power flow in DG systems, ensuring compliance with power quality standards and enhancing the performance of distributed energy resources. © 2024 ieee.

The applications of a wireless sensor network rely heavily on the network's ability to function for an extended period. By separating the sensors into groups, each of which may keep an eye on the entire area of interest and be activated alternately, the system's lifetime can be maximized. However, determining the most significant number of different sensor covers necessitates solving the NP-complete set k-cover issue. This work presents an improved greedy approach to the set k-cover problem based on the Jaccard Similarity Coefficient. The latter is a statistical method used to understand the similarity and diversity between sample sets. Moreover, the quality of the produced solution is improved by removing duplicate sensors for each set cover. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was compared to some greedy-based methods from the literature based on 1000 widely used benchmark instances. Computational results demonstrate its efficacy in producing high-quality solutions within acceptable computational time, especially when the problem scale increases. © 2023 ieee.

This paper presents an IoT-based autonomous farming method for lowering the mortality rate of 7-10-day-old chickens by preventing the flow of infection and continuously monitoring and controlling some very pivotal environmental parameters. In this system, an ESP32 microcontroller is used as the central unit which manages and controls all the sensors, ensuring healthier environmental conditions within the farm. The system uses several sensors like the temperature and humidity sensor DHT11. To create a user-friendly interface, real-time data is displayed via a 16x2 LCD monitor presenting the consumers with instant status of the crucial parameters. Moreover, this system will integrate two specialized robotic arms, identifying inactive or dead chickens and separating them to a designated place from the hatching area. This is proven to be significantly efficient in minimizing infection rates and ensuring a healthier surrounding for the remaining chickens. The incorporation of a buck converter allows high-power sources to step down so that low-power devices can run smoothly. In the implementation phase, we bought 250 chickens which from 222 chickens survived yielding a favorable cost benefit ratio of 0.48 indicating the economic validity of the system. The results of this study show that advanced sensor systems and robotic technology can be used in poultry farming to improve farm productivity reducing mortality rates. © 2025 ieee.

One of the major issues that arises when a DG forms an integrated part of an existing distribution system is the protection of the grid system. In order to achieve the best coordination of DOCRs in connected power networks under the influence of DG, an adaptive protection coordination approach is presented in this study. The Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) coordination technique is employed. It was chosen because HHO can handle search challenges such local optimal solutions, multi-modality, and misleading optima. With the use of adaptive relays which take into account the protection schemes that adjust settings of the relay based on the existing conditions of the system relay miss-operation can be prevented. MATLAB code using HHO technique is developed for the optimal coordination of DOCR and DigSILENT/Power Factory is used to develop the model for the adaptive protection scheme. The results support the validity of the proposed scheme to account for the DGs' uncertainty and choose the best protection settings while ensuring a minimal operating time. © 2023 ieee.

The distributed trading of power among multi-microgrid clusters has the potential to enhance energy mutual aid between microgrids in a region and improve local consumption of renewable energy. However, the primary objective of each microgrid entity is profit maximization, and the conventional mode of transaction based on price matching may result in serious breaches of contract by users. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-microgrid distributed energy trading model based on blockchain technology and Gale-Shapley algorithm. First, each microgrid entity constructs user preference indicators, such as the maximum available power, user reputation, and price, to evaluate and score both parties involved in the transaction. Second, a bilateral matching mechanism based on the Gale-Shapley algorithm is proposed, which ensures stable matching results for buyers and sellers in the two-way selection of the trading market. Third, to guarantee the secure operation of the distribution network, a method for verifying the transaction matching results using a distribution network security constraint checking technique is proposed. Finally, the rationality of the transaction model is demonstrated through verification on the Matlab simulation platform. © 2023 ieee.

In this paper, an electric field sensor based on piezoelectric-piezoresistive effect coupling is proposed, and a miniature, high-resolution and wide-range sensor device is investigated. The structure of the electric field sensor is designed, simulated and optimized by combining the key processes of piezoelectric effect, piezoresistive effect and MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) technology. By physically coupling the mechanical deformation of the piezoelectric material caused by the electric field to the surface of the piezoresistive film, the piezoresistive film undergoes deformation and then causes a change in resistance, which realizes the purpose of measuring the electric field through the change in output voltage of the Wheatstone bridge. At the same time in the semiconductor piezoresistive film in a specific region of the ion doping, regulating the type of ion doping and ion doping concentration, can change the piezoresistive coefficient of a specific region, in order to play to improve the sensitivity of the sensor and accuracy of the effect. The sensor has great application prospects in the field of on-line monitoring of advanced electric fields in cable equipment, aerospace and other miniature sensing systems that require a portable advanced degree. © 2024 ieee.

A day -ahead scheduling method considering the flexible supply and demand balance of distribution network after large-scale distributed photovoltaic (PV) access is proposed. Firstly, the hybrid Gaussian model is used to establish the probability distribution model of PV and load prediction error, and the robust interval of distribution network scheduling flexibility demand is obtained by generating prediction error scenarios based on Monte Carlo simulation method. Then, a distribution network day-ahead scheduling model aiming at minimizing the daily operating cost and the robust balance penalty cost of flexible supply and demand is established, and the improved Benders decomposition method is used to solve the problem. Finally, the ieee33-node system is taken as an example to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. ©2023 ieee.

Detecting human stress levels and emotional states with physiological body-worn sensors is a complex task, but one with many health-related benefits. Robustness to sensor measurement noise and energy efficiency of low-power devices remain key challenges in stress detection. We propose SELFCARE, a fully wrist-based method for stress detection that employs context-aware selective sensor fusion that dynamically adapts based on data from the sensors. Our method uses motion to determine the context of the system and learns to adjust the fused sensors accordingly, improving performance while maintaining energy efficiency. SELF-CARE obtains state-of-theart performance across the publicly available WESAD dataset, achieving 86.34% and 94.12% accuracy for the 3-class and 2-class classification problems, respectively. Evaluation on real hardware shows that our approach achieves up to 2.2x (3-class) and 2.7x (2-class) energy efficiency compared to traditional sensor fusion.

In this study, the optimal allocation of distributed energy resources (DERs) and shunt capacitors (SCs) in the distribution network (DN) is presented. Furthermore, the effect of existing voltage regulator (VR) device such as on-line tap changer (OLTC) on the optimal deployment of DERs is examined. In this study, the objective functions considered are the cost of annual energy loss (CAEL) and deviation of node voltage. To solve the considered allocation problem, newly published heuristic optimization technique, Honey Badger Optimization (HBO), is applied. The results are obtained for the real-life India 108 bus radial distribution system. These results clearly show that more payback in terms of reduced CAEL is obtained upon the utilization of existing VR devices. The obtained results are also compared with the results presented by other optimization methods in the literature. The comparitive analysis indicates the superiority of the HBO algorithm over others, especially in terms of the reduced CAEL. © 2023 ieee.

A 3D interior design assistant is introduced that offers a novel approach for designing rooms, the application offers several advantages, including providing users with fresh design ideas, reducing the time and effort required to design a room, and optimizing furniture placement to enhance room flow and design. The application converts rooms to a 3D model using Apple's new technology that utilizes the Lidar sensor. Then the user modifies object colors, texture, movement, and rotation and can add 3D furniture models. Moreover, the user can view his room in a first person preview using AR technology, and furniture placement optimization through Reinforcement Learning. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated through various experiments and comparisons with existing methods. In conclusion, our 3D interior design assistant represents a promising solution for designing and optimizing interior spaces, offering a new level of user experience and convenience. © 2023 ieee.
