In this paper, we introduce an intelligent remote health care system based on powerline communication (PLC) networks and Zigbee. It consists of a set of physiological sensors, a Zigbee/PLC gateway connected to sensors wirelessly and special software in the Controlling center. Physiological data collected by sensors will be transmitted via Zigbee/PLC networks to the controlling center where the data is stored, analyzed and present to users in a visual way. First, there is an overview about PLC and Zigbee techniques. Second, system architecture of the health care system is proposed Then, we focus on the details about the individual subsystems. We also describe the network protocols, working process and application of the system.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are emerging as a potentially attractive access architecture for metropolitan-scale networks. While research on WMNs has been up to a large extent confined to the study of efficient routing protocols, there is a clear need to envision new network management tools, able to sufficiently exploit the peculiarities of WMNs. In particular, a new generation of middleware tools for network monitoring and profiling must be introduced in order to speed up development and testing of novel protocol architectures. Currently, management functionalities are developed using conventional centralized approaches. The distributed and self-organizing nature of WMNs suggest a transition from network monitoring to network sensing. In this work, we propose JANUS, a novel framework for distributed monitoring of WMNs. We describe the JANUS architecture, present a possible implementation based on open-source software and report some experimental measurements carried out on a small-scale testbed.

To improve the saturation throughput and decrease the packet drop probability of wireless LAN, this paper proposes a new backoff algorithm, named as hybrid backoff algorithm, which can be used with ieee 802.11 DCF. In the hybrid backoff algorithm, stations increase their contention window linearly after experiencing several collisions. Based on the Markov chain model, a new method to calculate the packet delay for successfully transmitted packets considering retry limit is also derived, which can be applied to standard DCF as well. The numerical results are presented and the effects of various parameters in hybrid backoff algorithm are studied. The results show that the hybrid backoff algorithm can achieve better performance than binary exponential backoff scheme employed in DCF.

Base Station Multicast is an important enabling service for the current and future Internet With the explosive growth of the Internet, a challenging issue facing Base Station multicast is scalability, in particular, the problem of multicast forwarding state and control explosion. In this paper, we propose a new methodology to address the multicast scalability problem for backbone domains - distributed Message Copying Multicast (DMCM). This multicast scheme is designed for the wireless network, and is independent of any underlying intra-domain multicast protocols. The feasibility and performance of our algorithm is demonstrated through analysis and simulations.

The problem of sensor network localization has been addressed with several localization algorithms. These algorithms can be categorized into centralized schemes which require that computations be performed at base nodes and distributed schemes which divide the network into sub-networks that localize themselves. In this work, we theoretically compare the transmission capacities of a general centralized algorithm against a distributed localization scheme to investigate the practicality of the schemes. We propose a simple model of the transmission overhead required for transmitting localization information and investigate the effect of the number of node links.

The paper proposes a distributed bandwidth reservation protocol (DBRP) for QoS routing in ad hoc networks. The protocol adopts a TDMA-based model, derives from AODV, refers to the idea of three slot states[7], and adopts two-time reservation and controlling-flooding scheme. The protocol takes both the hidden-terminal and exposed-terminal problems into account. And it can solve the simultaneous reservation of several paths. In addition, controlling-flooding method can effectively control routing overhead, and two-time reservation can improve request success rate. Simulation results show the new protocol has better performance in denser networks and heavier traffic conditions.

Source and destination location privacy is a challenging and important problem in sensor networks. Nevertheless, privacy preserving communication in sensor networks is still a virgin land. In this paper, we propose to protect location privacy via a flooding backbone, which is modeled by a minimum connected dominating set (MCDS) in unit-disk graphs. We design an efficient and localized algorithm to compute an approximate MCDS. Theoretical analysis indicates that our algorithm generates a connected dominating set (CDS) with a size at most 148 (.) opt + 37, where opt is the cardinality of a MCDS. To our best knowledge, this algorithm is the first localized algorithm with a constant performance ratio for CDS construction in unit-disk graphs.

DBMST is a broadcast communication protocol that provides a distributed MST algorithm It is based on the FPS power-management protocol. This paper presents the complete version of DBMST that regards packet loss and dynamism of the network topology and provides reliable communication. The proposed method decreases the power consumption of reliable broadcasting up to 15% in comparison with the basic version. In DBMST, network structure adapts to topology variations quickly, while it takes several hours for other methods to End out variations in network.
