In this paper, we propose an efficient and fault tolerant topology control algorithm named AWSF for large-scale wireless sensor networks, which introduces the scale-free characteristic of complex networks into the topology of wireless sensor networks to minimize transmission delay and increase robustness. It is a distributed algorithm, letting each node locally adjust its transmission power and determine its neighbor relationship based on certain arbitrary weights which are random real numbers following a negative power-law probability distribution. The topology constructed under AWSF is proved to be scale-free, strongly connected and bi-directional. Simulation results show that the resulting topology has a small average degree and good network performance in terms of transmission delay and robustness.

distributed spacecraft systems is envisioned to provide the technology platform to extend, improve and enable mission concepts such as wide aperture radars for high-precision space-borne surveillance, 3D mapping of Earth's magnetic field and even deep-space interferometry to better understand the origins of the universe. However, a mission with a fully autonomous spacecraft fleet flying in close-proximity or in a tightly kept configuration has yet to be realized. In this work, we review the major technology drivers and challenges for such next generation systems across a selective set of on-going, cancelled or proposed space missions. Our analyses identify five main classes of technology drivers from navigation and control perspective. These drivers are enumerated for a typical interferometric SAR example. The example illustrates steep technological challenges such as the need for sub-millimeter relative navigation solution accuracy for even decimeter level vertical image resolution. We conclude with an initial effort at outlining a cost effective and robust roadmap for flight maturation of the key technologies to deem such missions and goals achievable.

In our work, we investigate efficient usage of TTCN-3 based test components in the emerging field of distributed performance testing of communicating systems. TTCN-3 is a high level formal specification language used for the specification of Abstract Test Suites (ATSs) suitable for various testing purposes mainly in telecommunication systems testing. A TTCN3 based test system may consist of several distributed Parallel Test Components (PTCs) and can be executed utilizing diverse hardware platforms. Our aim is to aid development of load tests by establishing a framework, while collecting best practices at the same time, that can be used to execute tests over mixed hardware resources efficiently. We, mainly focus on automated and dynamic deployment of load test components implemented purely in TTCN-3. Also, the deployment method takes test system load into account by monitoring the participating workstations' behavior on-line. A potential test method is shown that can be used for testing server applications using low-cost or even legacy hardware as the platform for distributed test components. A basic scenario involving SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) service testing is presented as an example.

This paper examines a sensor scheduling problem for target tracking using a network of distributed passive sensors. It considers how to schedule sensor activation to minimise bandwidth and battery usage while maintaining track accuracy. The sensor network is made up of simple acoustic, binary proximity sensors. Four different scheduling methods are considered. Two of these methods are heuristic while the other two are optimal, one-step ahead schedulers for differing objectives. The performance of all four algorithms is compared using simulations. The results show that it is possible to obtain adequate performance with only a subset of the sensor field active at any one time.

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) S-Box was the only non-linear structure of the AES algorithm;it dominated the hardware complexity of the AES cryptographic module. For Wireless sensor Network applications, S-Box must offer low power, small area and high security. In this paper, a full-custom S-Box implementation with low-power, compact and well DPA-resistant property was proposed. The energy-efficient Pass Transmission Gate (PTG) and three-input exclusive-OR (XOR) gate based on three-transistor XOR element were used to realize the functionality of S-Box, it resulted in the reduction of the area tradeoff and power consumption. The PTG-based latches, controlled by asynchronous latch controllers, were inserted in the data path to block the propagation of the dynamic hazards. A countermeasure against Differential Power Analysis, based on random delay insertion, was presented to attain high-security. The resulting implementation on a 0.25 mu m CMOS process is very suitable for the source-limited wireless sensor node chips.

A particular challenge in maintaining extended wireless sensor networks(WSNs) lifetime lies in achieving communications with low power. For better understanding of the design trade offs of WSNs, a more accurate power consumption model for wireless sensor node is proposed. Different from models ever showed, in which the power consumption of each component in WSN node is assumed constant, the new one takes into account energy dissipation of circuits in practical physical layer. It shows that there are sonic parameters such as data rate, carrier frequency, RF output power et al, which have a significant effect on the WSN node with the metric energy per useful bit (EPUB). Then an optimal design method to make the network energy efficient is described by adjusting one or more of these parameters. The efficiency of the strategy was validated by mathematical analysis and simulations. The results showed that the EPUB can be reduced by optimally choosing the rate-power combination based on the proposed power consumption model for a given load.

Process Capability Analysis is an important quality tools in 6Sigma management. The calculating methods of standard capability indices in process capability assessment are based on the hypothesis that the distributions of process output are normal or approximate normal. There is a lot of practice cases in which the output isn't normal. Because the forms of these distributions are unknown, the results of evaluation may be misleading to a judgment about the processes. When the distribution is on the skew, the Clements method is used after estimating the form of distribution by a lot of data from process output. With the not truly known distribution, there is big gap in the assessment result. Based on Scaled weighted variance method, some process capability indices formulas, which can be used in skew distribution, are established in the paper. The simulation study was done for comparison between the WV-based and SWV-based PCI.
