One of the leading frontiers of the Internet of Things (IoT) era, smart building systems have made modern homes more innovative, interconnected, and autonomous. The goal of a smart home system is to enhance users' comfort, safety, and efficiency. In this paper, a smart building testbed is designed and constructed as a cyber-physical system that allows testing and validating building control algorithms, communication networks, and user interfaces. The building control unit is responsible for optimizing the performance of testbed actuators (thermal, lighting, and access systems), whereby building parameters are aggregated via a set of distributed sensors and communicated to a management system. This data is observed and analyzed by the control system to produce optimal control commands. The building communication network is developed based on the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, in which subscribers receive the measurement data, format it, and send it to the user-interface unit. The user interface is implemented in a Node-RED platform, where the data is visualized in real-time, and users are capable of interacting with the automation system. Experimental results demonstrate the usefulness of such a prototype for smart building monitoring and control research. © 2021 ieee.

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a network comprised of a collection of small, specialized sensors with limited memory, processing capacities, and energy resources. These sensors are employed to monitor and record various physical characteristics of the surrounding environment, such as temperature, sound, light, pressure, pollution, among others. Localization has emerged as a prominent research area in the realm of wireless sensor networks, garnering significant interest from academia and researchers alike. This work aims to present a comprehensive survey of diverse techniques and strategies employed to determine the precise location of nodes within the network. Initially, we discuss the available classifications for localization algorithms in wireless sensor networks. Subsequently, we elucidate the techniques and algorithms utilized within each classification. Lastly, we delve into a detailed examination of the existing challenges and issues encountered in the field of wireless sensor network localization.

Over the past few years, the adoption of distributed generation (DG) units at low and medium voltage levels in distribution networks has surged globally. DG units offer numerous advantages to electric power systems, including decreased transmission and distribution (T&D) losses, absence of emissions, enhanced efficiency, and improved reliability. The interconnection of DGs with the power system Mains is a necessary for their mutual benefits. The interconnection also brings several negative impacts such as power quality deterioration and unintentional loss of Mains. Loss of Mains is the state of power distribution system in which a DG powers a location though the Mains power or grid is not available. Loss of Mains poses a significant risk to utility workers, who might be unaware that a circuit remains energized, potentially leading to dangerous situations. Additionally, it can hinder the automatic re-connection of devices, disrupting the continuity of power supply. Identification of loss of Mains condition need to be done under 2 seconds according to ieee standard 1547. An assessment of a hybrid method for the identification of loss of Mains in DGs is taken into account for analysis. The performance evaluation of the proposed scheme is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK 2024a software. In this proposed method, over/under voltage measurement is used as passive method. The active method uses sending second order harmonics into the PCC (Point of Common Coupling) and measuring the voltage unbalance level or the presence of negative sequence components in the voltage. Results are shown to validate the method. © 2024 ieee.

Gas sensors are frequently used to identify hazardous and toxic gases and are essential to maintaining both the environments and human's quality of life. First-principle calculations are used to find the adsorption mechanism of monoxide gases on CrS2 system. In order to prospect its capability to use like a gas sensor, we investigated the sensing of monoxide gases CO, NO on pristine CrS2 monolayer in our work. We also investigated the consequences of doping of the Pt and Pd atom on the pristine CrS2 system. According to the findings, these monolayer can be applied as a productive nominee in the field of gas sensing. Here, the structural models of all cases in adsorption are first modelled and developed in order to obtain the extent of sensing features of CrS2 monolayer in the presence of gas molecules, and the doping effect of Pt and Pd atom on characteristics are analyzed using density functional theory (DFT) method. © 2023 ieee.

Fall detection helps to provide medical assistance quickly and to avoid the aggravation of injuries. In this paper, we propose a new noninvasive and energy-efficient smart sensor for fall detection. The sensor is based on accelerometer data and is attached to 20 building workers. To reduce power consumption, a new method of data selection is proposed. This method is based on the use of sensor timers, which allows for the reduction of 91% of the acquired data and 94% of the transmitted data. Regarding the classification, a new classification approach is proposed. Indeed, each data segment is displayed as a graph. Then, a convolution neural network is trained to detect the presence or absence of falls in each graph. An accuracy of 98% was obtained. This result exceeds that obtained in several studies and shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2022 ieee.

computing, Internet, digital devices, smart devices, and other technologies were leading to a new terminology known as cloud of things (CoT). Cloud of Things is a powerful technology used to analyze and store massive data from thousands of distributed devices (smartphones, vehicles, home appliances, sensors, etc.). Further, Cloud of Things integrated two concepts, Internet of Things and Cloud computing. There are many issues in cloud computing that have been widely studied, such as scheduling. On the other hand, a few issues have been studied in Cloud of Things. The objective of this paper is to discuss and classify the scheduling issues in Cloud of Things. Researchers have developed algorithms for different environments such as heterogeneous/homogeneous clusters, cloud computing, and large-scale community grids. By reviewing and considering many of these articles, we provided an overview for reuse these state-of-the-art algorithms in Cloud of Things environments. In addition, this paper provides researchers with ideas and platform for finding open research and exploring Cloud of Things issues. © 2023 ieee.

This paper studies the task scheduling strategy of cloud data center based on data warehouse. Combined with the characteristics of power data center, a multi-qos evaluation model for power data center is defined. In this paper, a neural network algorithm is used for task scheduling with QoS overall effect value as the target. Then this paper establishes the overall technical architecture and hardware and software system of the big data center of the electric power company, and studies the key technologies such as data access and preprocessing, data integration and storage, data computing and processing, data mining and analysis, data security and management. Finally, taking the transformer equipment status evaluation experiment center as an example, the tasks of fault diagnosis, status evaluation, overhaul and maintenance are simulated and scheduled, and the Cloud Sim platform is used for simulation test. The results show that this algorithm can meet the multi-qos requirements of power users to the maximum extent and effectively improve the efficiency of power data center operation. © 2023 ieee.

A novel hybrid algorithm based optimal planning of solar PV and battery energy storage systems

The adoption of renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar photovoltaic distributed generation (SPVDG) has been at its peak in the present decade owing to their positive impact on the environment and the grid. However, these sources' ratings and placement need to be optimally estimated before their accommodation in the power distribution system (PDS) to prevent increased power loss and voltage profile aberrations. In this article, SPVDG is integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS) to compensate for the shortcomings of SPVDG, such as intermittency and uncertainty, and to reduce peak demand. This paper presented a novel hybrid algorithm, which is a combination of the enhanced elephant herding algorithm and the Jaya algorithm. This developed algorithm properly controls the searching algorithm from global exploration to local exploitation to obtain the near-global optimum solution. The problem formulation is centered on the optimal accommodation of SPVDG and BESS to alleviate the power loss and improve the voltage profile of the PDS. Further, the voltage limits, maximum current limits, and BESS charge-discharge constraints are validated throughout the optimization process. Moreover, the hourly variation of SPVDG generation and demand profile with seasonal impact is examined in this study. ieee 69 bus PDS is tested for the development of the presented work. The suggested algorithm demonstrated its effectiveness and accuracy when compared to different optimization approaches in the literature. (C) 2023 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Ltd. The penetration level of renewable energy (RE) including distributed generation (DG) integrated in the distribution network has been increasing in many countries. This follows widespread encouragement to use renewable energy to minimize reliance on conventional power plants to achieve net zero emissions. Malaysian energy transition targets and carbon neutral goals set by the government, lower cost of ownership of solar PV systems, and more efficient government renewable energy initiatives including Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0, Green Investment Tax (GITA), Large Scale Solar (LSS), and most recently the Corporate Green Power Program (CGPP) have driven the rapid development of renewable energy in the country. However, the high penetration level of distributed generation including solar PV, mini- hydro, and bio-energy has introduced several technical impacts on the operation of the distribution network including increased fault levels, voltage limit violation, reverse power flow, distribution network losses, and transformer losses. This paper analyzes the technical impacts of the high penetration level of distributed generation in medium voltage (MV) substations of the distribution network using DigSILENT PowerFactory simulation software. From the results obtained through the simulation analysis, the impact factors of fault level, voltage limit violations, reverse power flow, distribution network losses, and transformer losses have been formulated. The optimal distributed generation penetration level in distribution networks is then determined based on the highest score value of the normalized impact factor from all penetration levels.

LiDAR is rapidly emerging as a central sensor in many applications involving autonomous navigation. However, the execution of state-of-the-art neural models for the analysis of point clouds produced by LiDARs necessitates considerable computing power, energy and memory. As a consequence, realtime analysis - e.g., 3D object detection - on resource-constrained mobile platforms such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is often impractical. In this paper, we evaluate the feasibility of real-time LiDAR-based object detection for UAVs using measures and data obtained from a real-world deployment. First, we demonstrate that state-of-the-art neural models for 3D object detection cannot be executed even in relatively powerful embedded computers suitable for airborne drones, such as the NVIDIA Jetson Nano. Then, we focus our attention on edge computing, where the UAV offloads the execution of the analysis model to a compute-capable device (an edge server) positioned at the network edge. The key challenge is that point clouds generated by LiDARs have a large size (1.2MB per point cloud frame). We evaluate the overall capture-to-output delay of a remote analysis loop experimentally for WiFi and using expected data rate for cellular LTE environments. Finally, we evaluate the performance of 3D object detection on available datasets for autonomous vehicles and emphasize the challenges posed by the ability of UAVs to move in the 3D space. With our LiDAR-UAV system, we achieved detections with averages of 86% accuracy, 71.6% precision, and 55.14% recall outputted with an average end-to-end delay of 1920ms.
