Open-source and industrial software systems often lack up-to-date documents on the implementation of user-observable functionalities. This lack of documents is particularly hindering for large systems. Moreover, as with any other software artifacts, user-observable functionalities evolve through software evolution activities. Evolution activities sometimes have undesired and unexpected side-effects on other functionalities, causing these to fail or to malfunction. In this position paper, we promote the idea that a traceability link between user-observable functionalities and constituents of a software architecture (classes, methods. . . implementing the functionalities) is essential to reduce the software evolution effort. We outline an approach to recover and to study the evolution of features -subsets of the constituents of a software architecture - responsible for a functionality. Copyright 2005 ACM.

We propose a mobile agent system called Ja-Net on Grid by which to simplify parallel application development in a grid environment. The Ja-Net on Grid system is built on the Ja-Net architecture and enables application programmers to write programs that run efficiently in a grid environment by agents doing collaborative activities among agents based on the idia of relationships. The Ja-Net on Grid system employs the Grid Security Infrastructure, which is based on X.509 certificates and is included in the Globus Toolkit, to achieve Single Sign-on and secure access to confidential information. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the Ja-Net on Grid system, and verify the effectiveness thereof by demonstrating better resource distribution with respect to the conventional master-worker-based task distribution methods.

Current 3D modeling systems do not support the importance of creativity on design process during the conceptual phase effectively. In other words, there are no toolls, which support the creative 3D modeling of a virtual visual design in the preliminary phase, where different variations have to be discussed. Therefore an intuitive UI for 3D modeling applications that supports creative concept development would be helpful to increase productivity and creativity. Rather than depend on default interaction techniques, which occupy and shape us for decades, it is critical that we should explore alternative interaction methods that are well suited with the new media intuitively. In this paper an innovative UI concept is presented by integrating new generation of input devices such as data glove and 3D motion sensor. An immersive visual design system with the combination of real time actions and gestures are applied to support natural interaction.

We discuss a novel framework for integrated sensing and resource management in a distributed intelligent sensor network with sensor nodes whose useful active lifetime is significantly shorter than the required lifetime of the sensor system. Past sensor network research has focused on security and communication; but largely ignored the overall dynamic resource management issue of such distributedsystems. Our contribution is in integrated control optimization and resource management algorithms to ensure proper functioning of distributedsensors in extremely limited bandwidth, power, and storage. In this paper, we present a novel genetic algorithm for real-time system control and resource management that handles multiple conflicting objectives and constraints in the distributed system. Our framework is suitable for dynamic environments where the desired system performance and resource usage changes dynamically while being constrained by limited amount of resources.

This requires their agent system to be interoperable through a distributed architecture. In this paper we present the collaborative agreement for automated trading (CAAT), an initiative intended to deal with this issue. The framework that is built on top of the FIPA agent architecture model combines the agent technology and the Web service functionalities to provide a distributedcomputing architecture for supporting online bargaining. It has three main components: the business interaction model, the ontology, and the interaction protocol. The framework is intended to be an open standard that is made available to all organizations or software developers willing to build interoperable trading-based agent systems.
