The Web and its related technologies have made possible new means of access to and visualization of information. As such, it has shaped the structure of systems in many domains, from enterprise, mission critical e-business to distributed, embedded systems. Although experience with developing and deploying quality systems for the Web, by the Web and to the Web is a fairly recent activity, it appears that there are a relatively small number of canonical architectures that work. It is possible and desirable to codify those architectural patterns in order to offer a vehicle for controlling the development of a Web system over its lifetime, and to accelerate the development of new Web systems. The UML is well suited to representing these architectural patterns. In this presentation, we will examine the nature of Web-centric systems, and will study the common architectural patterns that apply. We will also examine the dozen or so underlying mechanisms upon which these architectures build, and show how both these architectural patterns and design patterns can be represented in the UML. We will conclude by addressing how these representations can be used in the lifecycle, supporting the notions of executable architectures and round trip engineering. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1999.

The main issues in implementing the assistance system are the position sensing and the human guidance through human interface. The sensor suite selection, filtering scheme, guidance scheme, human interface scheme development process are described. The developed system prototype and experimental results are also presented.

In this paper, a theoretical and practical technique for the reconstruction of the static and dynamic deflection curves of a cantilever beam with one free end is presented. In practice a limited number of strain sensors is used, so the sensor layout is important for the accuracy of the result. A new approach for finding an optimized number and placement of FBG strain sensors is described, and it is shown that five well placed readings suffice to precisely reconstruct the modes up to the 3rd which are significant in lots of applications. The method is validated by comparing dynamic shape estimations with experimental results.

This paper describes the advanced parking assistance system developed using high accuracy position sensing. A real-time high accuracy absolute position sensing that may be used not only for parking assistance system was used as the sensing system. The main issues in implementing the assistance system are the position sensing and the human guidance through human interface. The developed positioning, human interface, and guidance schemes, simulations and experiments are presented.

We develop a body parts position and posture estimation system. This system consists of a pressure sensor distributed bed and body parts position and posture estimation software. The computer constructs many pressure distribution images based on the simple human models and accumulates these images to its memory, called the model-based pressure image templates. The pressure distribution image through is compared with model-based pressure image templates to find out the most matched pressure image template. The model-based pressure image templates contain body parts positions and joint angles information, so the body parts position contacting with the bed can easily be estimated by using the most matched model-based pressure image template. Finally, an estimated posture is displayed as a 3D computer graphics image. An experimental result reveals that the system not only can display the estimated lying human posture intuitively, but can also estimate the lying human's body parts position accurately where the body parts contacts with bed.

When multiple agents are in a shared environment, there usually exist constraints among the possible actions of these agents. A distributed constraint satisfaction problem (distributed CSP) is a problem to find a consistent combination of actions that satisfies these inter-agent constraints. The research on constraint satisfaction problems has a long and distinguished history in AI as a general framework that can formalize various application problems. Similarly, a distributed CSP is a fundamental problem for achieving coordination among agents and can formalize various application problems in multi-agent systems. © 1998 ieee.

Georgeff (1991), we agree that modal logic provides a simple but powerful formalism for the representation, the specification and the analysis of the mental attitudes of rational agents: Belief, desire and intention (BDI). These approaches underestimate the issue of the formalization of common, distributed and introspective BDI of a group of complex agents. In order to answer to this question, we introduce a propositional modal language that extends existing languages and where various complex agents are considered. © 1998 ieee.

Transportation scheduling application consists of distributed transportation companies that have to carry out transportation orders which arrive dynamically. Each company has a set of trucks at their disposal. Each company should maximize the satisfaction of orders according to the availability of its trucks. The distributed AI approach is suitable for this application because of: First the complexity of a centralized scheduling algorithm and second the distributed nature of the application (companies and trucks are geographically distributed). Furthermore, the task of transportation is characterized by a high level of uncertainty regarding different factors such as the traffic density, the power of the truck used and soon that cannot be ignored. We present a suitable temporal representation of trucks taking the uncertainty of their availability into account by using the Fuzzy Characteristics Functions and an Extended Contract Net Protocol based on this representation to negotiate the delegation of orders from one company to another one. © 1998 ieee.

This paper describes the methods for preparation of input data for an interpolation algorithm for real-time phase control of a hybrid reflector antenna (HRA) beam via an iterative method of phase synthesis. To be dependent on the required class of formed radiated patterns in a survey sector, the proposed methods can include several steps for correcting the input data.
