The 4TH Mediterranean conference on Embedded computing (MECO'2015) was held, for the third consecutive year, in Budva, Montenegro, on June 14-18, 2015. Within the framework of MECO'2015, the 3rd EUROMICRO/ieee Workshop on Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems (ECYPS'2015) took place, alongside two new workshops: the 1st Workshop on Biomedical Engineering Education (BIOEMIS'2015) and the 1st Workshop on Bio-informatics (BIOICT'2015), as well as two special sessions, MECO-Student Challenge 2015: Distinguished student papers with the emphasis on the very dynamically developing area of compressive sensing, and the MECO 2015 Work in progress Session. The Best Student Paper award went to Giovanni Burresi and Roberto Giorgi for the paper titled 'A Field Experience for a Vehicle Recognition System using Magnetic Sensors.' The Best Poster award was given to Yuri Bekhtin and Boris Alpatov for 'Onboard SPIHT-based and Textural-Dependent Data Compression of One-look SAR Images.'

Designing gesture-based collaborative and interactive systems using new technologies has shown noticeable potential for educational purposes and could enhance the memorability of digital contents. In this paper, we present a quality framework and a new combination of modalities to recognise different types of human gestures. The outcome can be used in future classroom designs by replacing expensive smartboards which are physically limited to a fixed place. We also propose a framework based on Norman's theory of action for interactive collaborative systems. This framework has been tested by a combination of Microsoft Kinect and a smartphone's built-in gyroscope together with two types of interfaces in an educational environment. The results proved the improvement of participant's interactivity and participation by changes in five pedagogical factors in different groups of the study and specifically in higher ages. © 2015 ieee.

Device-to-Device (i.e. D2D) communication technology not only magnify system capacity but also utilizes the gain of physical proximity of communicating devices to support services like proximity services, traffic offloading etc. from eNB (i.e. evolved Node-B). D2D communication enhanced resource efficiency and brought down traffic load from eNB in LTE-A networks. Coexistence of D2D users and conventional cellular users in the network, efficient resource sharing among devices becomes challenging task. The optimized resource allocation problem is NP-hard problem. To maximize total utility and resource efficiency of devices, we use interference graph model to estimate interference scenario among devices in cellular LTE-A networks. In this model devices present vertices whereas edges are formed among interfering devices. Further, we apply graph coloring based model to solve resource allocation problem in D2D communication underlaying cellular LTE-A networks. Moreover, the proposed algorithmic model gives better result than greedy orthogonal resource assignment scheme as well as achieve approaching performance with respect to optimal resource assignment schem, in an efficient resource allocation technique with feasible complexity of O(K.N-4), here K is the total number of RBs whereas N is number of devices in the cellular LTE-A networks.

Monitoring the progress of students is part of the teacher's job which is very important and very time-consuming. Especially if there are many students with various subjects. This is the experience of most primary school teachers in Indonesia. One way to solve this problem is to predict student progress. In this study, the students' progress was predicted using Random Forest. The Random Forest algorithm is used because it can classify data that has incomplete attributes, which are usually found in student assessment data. The prediction model was built based on assessment data from 2 classes with 46 elementary school students in subjects: Indonesian, mathematics, SBdP (Cultural Arts and Crafts), PPKN (Pancasila and Citizenship Education), and Computers. The dataset comes from the formative and summative assessment results from 3 aspects (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective). The resulting model performance will be measured using accuracy and recall. The results showed that using a dataset of 5 subjects from 46 students, the Random Forest algorithm produced a learning progress model with 100% accuracy for training data and 94% for testing data. Meanwhile, the learning progress prediction model for each subject has 100% accuracy on training data and more than 96% on test data. © 2020 ieee.

In this paper, we design a highly accurate method for 3D mapping of multi-floor buildings. The basic idea is to combine the laser range sensor for metric mapping and barometric pressure sensor for detecting floor transition and kinect sensor for collection 3D environment information. Meanwhile, we adopt the Monte Carlo localization in 2D map to improve the accuracy of the localization. Finally, the barometric pressure is used to merge the 3D map of the multi-floor buildings. By using the information collected by a real robot in a typical multi-floor environment, the method is tested and compared with some other approaches, the results show that the method is efficient and has a better result in 3D mapping of multi-floor buildings. © 2017 ieee.

This paper presents a global 3D feature descriptor for object recognition and grasping. The proposed descriptor stems from the clustered viewpoint feature histogram (CVFH) feature descriptor. Since the CVFH feature descriptor relies on shape information only, it obtains a poor performance when recognizing the objects with similar shapes. In order to improve the robustness and accuracy of object recognition, we extend CVFH feature descriptor with color information. Then this new global 3D feature descriptor is tested for multiple classes of 3D object classification by using support vector machines (SVM), and it is evaluated with a public dataset and real scenes respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed descriptor outperforms the CVFH feature descriptor in terms of recognition rate. Finally we utilize the proposed descriptor on our grasping system to recognize and grasp the objects, showing that the grasping system can accomplish the tasks well. © 2017 ieee.

This research is aimed to evaluate the interface and user experience of SIsKa, and then to give recommendation of the system interface. SIsKA is a web-based information system which is developed to thesis management computer science department of post graduate students Ganesha University of education. This evaluation is aimed to identify the problems faced by the users when using the system and measure the respond of the user when interacting through the system. The interface evaluation is done by means of heuristic evaluation technic;meanwhile the evaluation of user experience is done by means of User Experience Questionnaire. In the heuristic evaluation done by three evaluators, it is found that there are 40 violations over the 10 Nielsen's principal. Based on the UEQ result, it is found that in 20 SIsKA users, the average score for each aspect are: attractiveness aspect is 1,59, perspicuity aspect is 1,75, efficiency aspect is 1,64, dependability aspect is 1,40, stimulation aspect is 1,56, and novelty aspect is 1,10. After comparing the average score in dataset product of UEQ Data Analysis Tool, it is found that the attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, and novelty aspects of SIsKA are categorized as good. The dependability aspect is categorized as above average, and stimulation aspect is categorized as excellent. The recommendation of interface of SIsKA users is focused on 10 most severe problems found in heuristic evaluation. This recommendation is done in the form of wireframe, so it will be easier to draw the real framework of the website. The result of this research can be used as the suggestion and reference for the SIsKA developers to improve the quality of SIsKA particularly on the system interface. © 2018 ieee.

The 'Bebras' is an international large scale contest that aims to motivate children for engaging in Computer Science. In this paper we present an investigation of the psychometric factors that determine the success in this contest, e.g. Abilities in Computational Thinking or intelligence factors. For this purpose, we looked for subsets of Bebras questions that are requiring joint psychometric constructs, according to the responses of the test persons, applying latent trait analysis on all combinations of questions. After identifying suitable sets of questions, we tested the fit of the mono-parametric Rasch Model and evaluated the distribution of person parameters. Additionally, the identified sets of questions were analyzed by qualitative methods to find out the nature of these common psychometric constructs. As a test bed for feasibility studies, we have chosen the Bebras Contests of Germany 2009. We have found and analyzed several sets of questions that met our requirements, analyzed the questions, and identified differences in the performance of boys and girls in these sets. © 2015 ieee.

In 2015, the United Nations put forward 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030, where data has been promoted as a focus to innovating sustainable development and as a means to measuring progress towards achieving the SDGs. In this study, we propose a systematic approach towards discovering data types and sources that can be used for SDG research. The proposed method integrates a systematic mapping approach using manual qualitative coding over a corpus of SDG-related research literature followed by an automated process that applies rules to perform data entity extraction computationally. This approach is exemplified by an analysis of literature relating to SDG 7, the results of which are also presented in this paper. The paper concludes with a discussion of the approach and suggests future work to extend the method with more advanced NLP and machine learning techniques. © 2023 Owner/Author.

Blood cell images are difficult for segmentation because of their intrinsic characteristics. We proposed a dual-layer structure to solve the problem: the 1st layer introduces and simplifies pulse coupled neural network to split the images based on traditional Split-Merge method, and Mumford-Shah model was utilized to merge the split areas. The output of the first layer is a coarse segmented image. The second layer extracts the edges via LoG operator with considering the edges whose length are larger than given threshold as cell edge while the opposite as false-edges caused by noises. The output is a non-continuous edge. To obtain the final labeling results, we combined the two layers together with skeleton extraction and thinning from mathematical morphology. Experiments suggested the superiority of proposed method.
