Organizations invest in various knowledge management (KM) systems and tools to enable seamless integration of the constantly increasing volume and sources of information. This research first, presents a case study on the existing categories of KM systems and tools, their potential contribution to the KM process, and their pitfalls;second, it proposes a comprehensive methodology for building KM through the organization using software agent technology. This approach aims to address the research issue of how KM can be optimized using intelligent agents and how to enhance decision-making process. The proposed system is applied to a real-world project lifecycle case that is EPC (engineering Procurement and Construction) project. A prototype of the system is presented where intelligent agents are the building blocks of a peer-to-peer organization wide system. The application was implemented using Eclipse technology, and the agents were deployed on the FIPA-OS (Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents-Open-Source) environment, we used JESS (Java Expert System Shell) to develop the knowledge based of the agents' reasoning.

An important practical problem in fault diagnosis is discriminating between permanent faults and transient faults. In many computer systems, the majority of errors are due to transient faults. Many heuristic methods have been used for discriminating between transient and permanent faults;however, we have found no previous work stating this decision problem in clear probabilistic terms. We present an optimal procedure for discriminating between transients and permanent faults, based on applying Bayesian inference to the observed events (correct and erroneous results). We describe how the assessed probability that a module is permanently faulty must vary with observed symptoms. We describe and demonstrate our proposed method on a simple application problem, building the appropriate equations and showing numerical examples. The method call be implemented as a run-time diagnosis algorithm at little computational cost;it call also be used to evaluate any heuristic diagnostic procedure by comparison.

A growing awareness of the need to take into account social and contextual factors requirements engineering (RE) has led to expanded use of naturalistic inquiry (NI) methods, such as ethnography, for capturing relevant data. There is little debate about the potential value of NI to the development of systems;however, most previous discussions have emphasized practical techniques and benefits. Less attention has been given to the ontological and epistemological commitments that a naturalistic research paradigm assume and the extent to which these assumptions conflict with those that pervade RE practice. In this paper we present the axioms that NI. In each case we address both the points of agreement and tension that arise when these axioms are compared with the implicit assumptions upon which RE practice and research methods are based. We illustrate the discussion with specific examples from published sources and our experience.
