One of the key challenges of green software is that various aspects have an impact to the overall energy consumption over the lifetime of a system operated by software. In particular, in the field of industrial applications, where embedded devices cooperate with many IT systems to make the industrial processes more efficient, to reduce waste or raw materials, and to save the environment, the concept of green software becomes unclear. In this paper, we address the green aspects of software in different phases - software construction, software execution, and software control in both inside an individual component and as a part of a complete industrial application. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the insight into system knowledge, not aspects related to software per se, is the key to create truly green software. Consequently, when considering truly software green, the focus is to be placed on the system level savings for embedded systems at the highest possible level where domain knowledge can be taken into account, not on software development or execution.

This paper presents the realization of the 1GHz Negative Logarithmic Function (NLF) based on the 0.35um AMS technology. Firstly, it shows some interesting advance beyond Mitchell's approach with hardware implementation of a sequential architecture minimized in terms of gates and thus optimized for power and area sensitive application. Secondly, it introduces the realization of the NLF using combinational logic only. Lastly, it presents the realization of the physical layout using the second method based on 0.35um AMS technology with Silicon Ensemble software. © 2010 ieee.

Rapid dissemination of DT-MRI devices has recently evoked intensive research to come up with effective methods for grasping the structural features of acquired 3D diffusion tensor fields. In this paper, we further explore the potential of haptization in conjunction with visualization to represent different levels of information on the DT-MRI datasets. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a sophisticated method for utilizing diffusion-based tractography textures mapped on cross-sections to visualize local structures such as nerve tracts, together with appropriate 6DOF haptic transfer functions to haptize elementary diffusion properties. We illustrate the effectiveness of a prototype system featuring a PHANToM Premium 3.0 with an application to a practical DT-MRI human brain dataset.

Despite its many drawbacks, clone & own is still frequently used for control software development in the domain of automated Production systems (aPSs). However, this procedure leads to a high amount of so-called legacy software variants, which are usually unmanaged and, thus, difficult to maintain or reuse. To facilitate the reuse of existing software, this paper presents a model-based approach for documentation, configuration, and derivation of IEC 61131-3 compliant control software. Thereby, the required models are stored in a NoSQL database and represent the structure and the variability of the considered aPS from a functional viewpoint. A visualization of the variability in the style of a software Product Line, which is commonly used in the informatics domain for the development of variant-rich systems, enables the user to configure a variant and the respective IEC 61131-3 compliant control software is generated automatically through model transformations. The developed concept is evaluated with a prototypically implemented web application and the control software variants of a laboratory demonstrator. Thereby, the web application supports the integration of variants from existing legacy software into the database model. © 2020 ieee.

Electronic Health Record systems (EHR-S) are commonly developed in monolithic architectures. This architectural style presents greater complexity and demands more effort when we think of interoperability. A solution proposal is the creation of Microservices that use HL7 FHIR as an interoperability strategy. In this sense, it is presented the development of a prototype, based on a microservices architecture, to act in a real scenario of Patient Navigation (PN). The problem was subdivided into 3 steps: definition of architecture, development and construction of an interface to simulate the role of the navigator. The Patient and Appointment microservices are capable of synchronous communication to query and record information. In general, the implemented architectural style not only isolates information domains but can receive data from multiple sources while maintaining essential functionality. This type of approach plays a crucial role in a hospital environment, specifically in PN, highlighting the importance of the standard and expanding the possibilities for further research to be conducted. © 2021 ieee.

Traffic flow is a fundamental measure in transportation. Accurate traffic flow prediction also is crucial to the development of intelligent transportation systems and advanced traveler information systems. A novel multiscale wavelet support vector regression method (MW-SVR) is proposed for traffic flow prediction. Based on wavelet multi-resolution analysis, a scaling kernel function with multi-resolution characteristics is constructed, implements the combination of the wavelet technique with support vector regression. A variety of experiments are carried out. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach with multiscale wavelet kernel provides more optimal performance than that with radial basis function kernel, and the feasibility of applying MW-SVR in traffic flow prediction.

The engineering of software for Computer Aided Control systems engineering (CACSE) using the concept of software tools is discussed. A set of tools is presented which will provide an infrastructure upon which a fully integrated CACSE package could be readily built. Emphasis is placed on the man-machine interface. An input and an output translator are introduced, and the interaction between them is discussed. An action manager, to control the CACSE functions of a package, is presented. The control of retained data within a package using a data manager tool is discussed.

Group decisions are crucial in solving complex problems successfully across many socio-Technical contexts. The development of distributed group decision systems are problem-specific, literally with no systematic support and so a high level of variability in terms of their effects. There is a lack of generic and comprehensive manner that can support the description of the actual decision-making processes precisely. In this paper, we propose a group decision description language. The language consists of the constructs of agent, protocol, decision rule, and constraint for representing group decisions generically, flexibly, while maintaining local autonomy. A protocol of Triple Assessment for breast cancer has been used as an example to demonstrate its application. The language has been further applied to a Consensus Protocol and a Coordinator Election Protocol to demonstrate its expressiveness. © 2021 ACM.

The rapid growth of Internet technology is continuously increasing information volume, leading to the problem of information overload. When faced with a massive amount of information, the focus is on how to quickly and accurately find the desired information, which has led to the emergence of recommendation systems. However, traditional collaborative filtering recommendations are often affected by issues such as cold start and data sparsity, while existing graph-based collaborative filtering methods also suffer from poor representation learning quality and data sparsity. So we propose a recommendation method based on Multi-Task Learning and Graph Collaborative Filtering (MTLGCF). This method uses graph collaborative filtering recommendation as the main task, incorporates two contrastive learning tasks as auxiliary tasks, and introduces a data augmentation strategy, enabling the model to perform multi-task learning. By evaluating on three public datasets such as ml-latest-small and comparisons with nine recent recommendation methods, the proposed MTLGCF model shows significant improvements in Recall and NDCG metrics. © 2024 ieee.

The automatic fare collection systems need both highspeed processing and high reliability. High-speed processing is one of the most expected functions on the automatic fare collection gates (AFCGs) handling the highly dense passengers during rush hours. Reliability is also indispensable because the tickets are equivalent to notes. On the other hand, a wireless IC card ticket system is preferable to improve the passengers' convenience and to reduce the maintenance cost. However, this system is difficult to meet these two requirements because of wireless communications between an IC card and an AFCG. In this paper, the "Autonomous Decentralized Processing technology" and the "Decentralized Algorithm on the Fare Calculations with an IC card and AFCGs" are modeled for high-speed processing in the system, assuming "IC cards," "AFCGs," and a "center server" as the autonomous nodes. These technologies are introduced into the "Suica" system at East Japan Railway Company and have proven the effectiveness.
