We advocate the reuse of design knowledge rather than code as the most effective means for obtaining productivity and quality improvements in software engineering activities. This knowledge comes in several forms; domain analysis, generative knowledge, and knowledge of the structure of a particular system in terms of the domain and how domain concepts are implemented. We are building and using a practical large-scale software (re)engineering tool, the Design Maintenance System (DMS) that implements these ideas. Reusing design knowledge, DMS is able to automate many interesting engineering activities: analysis, reverse engineering, forward synthesis, and eventually software maintenance via design maintenance. Code reuse methods are incapable of providing strong support for these activities. However, many issues involved in DMS construction are driven by the scale of the problem; number of languages, sheer code volume, amount of knowledge involved, and computational energy required.

Hartmann wavefront sensor is applied widely in adaptive optics systems. Considering the real-time performance requirements and processing amount of Hartmann sensors in computing the centroids of points, this article proposes an FPGA-based real-time image processing and centroid extraction system. The system adopts FPGA as the core processor and uses the connected domain labeling algorithm and the gray centroid method to complete the centroid calculation. In addition, the calculation results are output simultaneously through multiple DAs to drive the device under test to achieve image wavefront restoration. At the same time, the image data is uploaded to the host computer in real-time through the Ethernet interface. The system has excellent performance in real-time image processing, image output quality, and system control stability. Experiments show that it is an efficient technical means of providing real-time wavefront processing measurement for the Hartmann sensor in various application scenarios, such as adaptive optical correction. © 2023 ieee.

At Philips Research Laboratories Aachen we have found a way to reconfigure software in embedded systems like, for example, switches or set top boxes. The goal of the reconfiguration is to repair software faults and to update software functionality. This should be done on-the-fly without decreasing the system's availability which means during the on-going operation of the system. The developed approach is based on available distributed operating system technology (Chorus) and on a widely used family of programming languages (C/C++). It does neither require changes in the operating system nor in the development system. All needed adaptations are done in the application. However, it was our goal to keep the development of the application functionality separated from the creation of the replaceability. An application is in large parts made replaceable through some systematic changes which can be done automatically. Some additional effort is still needed. This paper describes the mechanisms developed for that purpose. As a reconfiguration unit we have chosen a Chorus actor which is kind of a multi-threaded process. We describe how to make such a process replaceable. Finally, we give some performance figures to show the efficiency of the implemented algorithms.

Aimed at the characteristics of strong nonlinearity, uncertainty, time-variance and, strong coupling etc for AC electric arc furnace (EAF), and the traditional PID can not achieve desired control effect. The paper proposes a PID control algorithm based on optimized BP neural network using genetic algorithm, which is applied in electrode regulator systems of electric arc furnace to design the optimized controller. The algorithm optimizes the initial weights of BP neural network by using genetic algorithm firstly, and then adjusts the PID parameters by using BP neural network. The simulation indicates that the algorithm is feasible, and unit with intelligent PID controller has better accuracy and dynamic characteristics. © 2011 ieee.

This paper introduces a multi-agent system (MAS) approach using the detailed process provided by Prometheus methodology for the design of a moving robot application for the detection and following of humans. Our conjecture is that complex autonomous robotic systems have to be fully modeled in their initial design stages by means of agent-based technology. The application has been completely modeled with the Prometheus Design Tool (PDT), which offers full support to Prometheus methodology.

Resilience in business continuity of an entire industrial complex has direct local socioeconomic impact;however, there are few methods available for objective assessment of its status. This study investigated whether change in air quality could explain the state of economic activity in an industrial complex. Concentrations of PM2.5 and NO2 above several industrial complexes in central Thailand were extracted using the Google Earth Engine™ and analyzed to examine their temporal characteristics in relation to decline in business activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Results confirmed that industrial complexes whose activities were diminished by the pandemic showed concurrent trends of reduction in each pollutant, proving that the concentration of airborne substances has potential to reveal the level of activity of industrial complexes. To enhance the application potential of the proposed method, further study should investigate specific causal inferences by extracting the characteristics of other airborne substances, and consider industrial complexes that include a greater number of companies and major industries. © 2023 ieee.

Configuration management tool play an important role in software project management, it can solve a lot of problems which trouble the software project managers, Configuration management tool selection involve in many factors, it is a multifactor, complex systems engineering problem. In this paper, use the method of fuzzy decision analysis to study. First, analysis the evaluation indicators of the configuration management tool, use the decision hierarchy diagram to analysis the function, performance, cost, service and other indicators, where after, study multi-objective fuzzy decision method, including constructing the factors index matrix, constructing the fuzzy matrix, and making decisions on programs, finally, use the configuration management tool to select the instance, explain the whole process of decision analysis methods. The results show that, fuzzy decision analysis method well solves the fuzzy and non-deterministic problem, in the configuration management tool selection, practical application should be using qualitative analysis and quantitative calculated combining method, flexibility to determine the evaluation index system and its weights value. © 2010 ieee.

In order to optimize the high-speed electro-absorption modulated lasers for applications in the fiber optic communication and the data center systems, the epitaxial structure of the distributed feedback (DFB) laser with the InGaAsP/InP material was designed. In this article, PICS3D software was utilized to simulate the output power and the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of the 1.55μ m DFB laser under various parameters, including the quantum well thickness, the quantum well barrier thickness, the number of quantum wells, and cavity length. The simulation results show that when the number of quantum wells is 8, the quantum well thickness is 6nm, and the quantum barrier thickness is 10nm, with the injection current of 100mA, the threshold current is 13mA, the output power is 32.5mW, and the side-mode suppression ratio is 46.7dB. Subsequently, the output power and the side-mode suppression ratio of the DFB laser are found to reach the optimal values under these conditions. © 2024 ieee.

This paper presents an analysis and implementation of a switching vector control scheme for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive using a digital signal processor (DSP). Firstly, the field orientated vector control theory of PMSM and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation ( SVPWM ) method are presented. Then a DSP-based full-digital PMSM servo system is developed with power circuit, control hardware and software. The hardware circuits consist of power driving circuit, the power supply circuit and the sensor circuit etc. All the algorithms are implemented in assembly language of DSP- TMS320LF2812. The experimental performance along with test results of the PMSM drive are studied with switching control for switched reference speed perturbation. The control system succeeds to carry out the vector control algorithm on PMSM with superior speed response. ©2010 ieee.

A new compact microstrip bandpass filter design is presented in this paper as a candidate for use in modern wireless communication systems. The proposed filter structure is composed of two fractal-based microstrip resonators. The structure of each resonator is in the form of the 3rd iteration Peano fractal curve. The resulting filter structure based on these resonators, shows a considerable size reduction compared with the other microstrip bandpass filters based on other space-filling geometries designed at the same frequency. A second bandpass filter design based on the same resonator but with a tuning stub has been also presented, in an attempt to provide practically useful means to tune the filter to the specified performance with a considerable tuning range. The performance of the resulting filter structures has been evaluated using a method of moments (MoM) based electromagnetic simulator IE3D, from Zeland software Inc. Results show that the proposed filter structures possess good return loss and transmission responses besides the size reduction gained, making them suitable for use in a wide variety of wireless communication applications. Furthermore, performance responses show that the second filter, based on Peano shaped resonator with stub, has less tendency to support the 2nd harmonic. ©2009 ieee.
