Three different simulation models of center axle trailer train were established by using Auto TURN software, in order to research the passing stability and road adoptability. Highway ramp, first class highway and second class highway intersection models were established according to the requirement of JTG D20-2006. Research on road adaptability simulation of one 18.75 m long center axle trailer train and two 20.00 m long center axle trailer trains was carried out through the simulation models. The results show that three types of center axle trailer train have good adaptability in the highway ramp. At the intersection of first class highway, three vehicles can barely pass through, but in second class highway intersection, the swept path width of three vehicles is too wide, it is not recommended vehicle driving in this intersection. It found that the longer the vehicle, the worse the road passing ability. Simulation results serve as preferences for accelerating the deploying and optimizing the passing ability of center axle trailer train. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming increasingly important for traffic monitoring, medical treatment and other industrial applications. With the continuous development of the IoT, more and more “things” will be able to access to the IoT. Considering a large number of heterogeneous “things”, how to provide a unified access mechanism to the IoT is a fundamental and key issue. In this paper, we propose a novel IoT access architecture based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) and system on chip (SoC), which can provide a unified access to the IoT for a wide variety of low-speed and high-speed devices with associated extendibility and configurability. We have adopted ieee1451.2 standard for this design and applied the proposed design to vehicle monitoring system. The results indicate that the system can provide good performance in practical application.

Performance of data-intensive computing is one of the kernel problems that must be addressed to promote the development of embedded high-resolution object detection system. In this study, a new object detection framework based on manycore accelerator was established to improve object detection performance of embedded IoT devices. First, the fundamental principle of object detection method was reviewed as the basis of the research. Second, some key designs of a CPU-Accelerator heterogeneous architecture based parallel object detection framework including data splitting strategy, framework architecture, data structure design and parallel cascade classifier design were proposed to improve the detection speed and the computational resource efficiency. Third, an implementation of this framework on a Xilinx Zynq and Adapteva Epiphany combined hardware platform was described. Finally, an experiment of face detection application was conducted to evaluate the accuracy and performance of this framework. The experimental results show that the proposed object detection system provides 1.7 frame per second process speed in 1920×1080 image resolution, about 7.8 times speedup than the cascade classifier algorithm on dual-core ARM CPU which was integrated in Zynq with similar accuracy. The results demonstrate the promising application of the proposed framework in the field of object detection performance improvement.

We present the newest application specific version of our beamformer platform "DiPhAS" that provides 256 parallel channels both for generation of ultrasound signals as well as digitalization of returned echos. Using ultrasound transducers with lots of elements requires high channel count electronics. applications for such systems range from functional ultrafast imaging using high element count linear array transducers for imaging of a large field of view to real time volumetric imaging with matrix array transducers. To perform volumetric transmit beamforming with matrix transducers, lots of these matrix elements have to be controlled individually. Furthermore, many elements need to be excited in order to compensate for the small active element size and provide a sufficient overall active footprint to generate enough acoustic power for imaging with adequate SNR. The system is set up based on our platform concept with the common ultrasound research device components: mainboard, power supply, application-specific new front ends integrating 16 channels on each PCB and device software. Using 16 front ends results in a total channel count of 256. The new front ends are based on our existing 8 channel front end technology and share the same concepts with doubled channel count for both transmission and reception. The system generates transmit sequences with voltages up to 150 Vpp and digitizes with a sampling rate of up to 80 MHz. The beamformer implements the control for additional external multiplexers in the transducer probe. This has been tested with an external transducer matrix array and can be used to connect to our custom 1024 elements matrix array (32×32 elements) with a 1:4 multiplexer integrated into the probe head. Received data can be accessed as single element channel data of all 256 channels in parallel and transferred to a PC via PCI-Express. The study of the ways in which humans interact with robots is a multidisciplinary field with multiple contributions from electronics, robotics, human-computer interaction, ergonomics and even social sciences. The robotics industry is mainly focused on the development of conventional technologies that improve efficiency and reduce the amount of repetitive work. To achieve this, enterprises must train their technical staff to accompany the robot when performing tasks, during configuration and technical programming for proper operation. Taking the latter into account, the development and creation of unconventional interfaces for interaction between humans and robots is critical, because they allow for a natural control over a robot to generate wide acceptance and massive use in the performance of a wide range of possible tasks. This paper presents the challenges in the design, implementation and testing of a hand-based interface to control two robotic arms and the benefits of this technology that is between robotics and human interaction.

The promising potential of cloud computing and its convergence with technologies such as cloud storage, cloud push, mobile computing leads to new developments for divers application domains, which provides a strong technical support for remote healthcare service as well. Experts and researchers believe that cloud computing technology can greatly improve the level of healthcare services. Currently, many experts have done fruitful research in this domain. This paper presents a cloud computing based remote healthcare service system. This system mainly consists of three parts: Portable medical devices, intelligent terminals (phones, tablets, etc.), cloud services platform. Portable medical acquisition devices transmit physiological signal to the intelligent terminal via wireless way (Bluetooth/WiFi). Monitoring software in smart terminal responses for data display, storage, and push the measurement results to the cloud service platform. Cloud services platform is a special website developed using cloud server, cloud storage and cloud push technology, which is the core of the whole system. Users can view and maintain their health data record anytime and anywhere only need an Internet equipment. Physicians can view their patient's health status through the same way. If necessary, the doctor can also push the diagnosis to patients and their families' smart phone, so related people can get the diagnosis result at the first time. On the smart terminal, a virtual instrument browser is proposed which can dynamically load virtual instrument page programs and can turn them into executable virtual instrument applications, which can break through the install limitation of measurement application, to avoid installing many applications on the phone.

In this paper, we briefly describe a general theory of software used in order to model and predict the current and future quality of software systems and their environment. The general theory is described using a class model containing classes such as application component, business service, and infrastructure function as well as attributes such as modifiability, cost, and availability. We also elaborate how this general theory of software can be extended into a general theory of software engineering by adding engineering activities, roles, and requirements.

Cloud computing is today involving software development and usage in a new phase, entailing not only a pervasive relevance as a technology but also a cultural value as the novel paradigm for supporting knowledge construction. Cloud paradigms locate applications on the top of levels usually employed to manage the complexity of modern computer systems, delivering the metaphor of ubiquitous available resources (software as well as data), without having to care about where data are located nor how they will be delivered. The 'as a Service' formula is outlining a new epistemic scenario that addresses not only agile IT needs for dealing with a business which is made more globalised, but also humanities requirements for exploiting data in order to disseminate culture. We refer to this scenario as a social media-oriented Cloud computing, in order to distinguish it from the usual one, i.e IT agility. This paper relates Virtual Heritage Cineca experiences aimed at developing Cloud solutions mixing humanities targets with Cloud technology results. The mixed approach investigated common principles grouping applications at the Cloud high abstraction level to implement a Web-centric one, as a Service meta interface that hybridizes standard Google Earth tools with application server patterns in order to improve the construction of knowledge about cultural data and resources, traditionally delivered on the Web (i.e. Web pages).

One of the key challenges of green software is that various aspects have an impact to the overall energy consumption over the lifetime of a system operated by software. In particular, in the field of industrial applications, where embedded devices cooperate with many IT systems to make the industrial processes more efficient, to reduce waste or raw materials, and to save the environment, the concept of green software becomes unclear. In this paper, we address the green aspects of software in different phases - software construction, software execution, and software control in both inside an individual component and as a part of a complete industrial application. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the insight into system knowledge, not aspects related to software per se, is the key to create truly green software. Consequently, when considering truly software green, the focus is to be placed on the system level savings for embedded systems at the highest possible level where domain knowledge can be taken into account, not on software development or execution.
