A real-time video surveillance system for piggery was designed to overcome the disadvantages of traditional observation methods for behavior of pigs. In this system, embedded system technology, H.264 video encoding technology and network communication technology were combined for real-time monitoring the behavior of pigs. According to directional centre-biased motion vector distribution and the characteristic that the motion in the horizontal direction is more impetuous than vertical direction in the surveillance video for piggery, thin diamond search (TDS) algorithm was proposed in this paper. The algorithm is based on thin diamond search pattern, and has the feature of fast speed while maintaining high precision of diamond search algorithm. The experimental results showed that the computation complexity and coding time of video coding are reduced in the TDS algorithm, so that the real-time performance of the surveillance video was improved significantly. This study provides a convenient way and low-cost method for remote monitoring of animal behavior. Therefore, the system has a wide application prospect in intelligent precision breeding industry. © 2010 ieee.

We refer to channels of communication that link the user to information systems as cognitive communication channels. One especially interesting research topic related to cognitive communication channels deals with a special application called sensory substitution, when information is conveyed through a channel other than the one that is normally used for the given application. Our goal is to develop engineering systems for the remote teleoperation of robots using sensory substitution to convey feedback information in meaningful ways. Such applications could help reduce the cognitive load for the user on the one hand, and help alleviate the effect of control instabilities and hidden parameters on the other. A large part of our research deals with how to provide information on tactile percepts-otherwise inaccessible to the remote user - through sound. In this paper, we present one possible mapping between tactile percepts and auditory parameters. Through a set of controlled experiments, we show that the parameters used are meaningful and the sounds can at some level be learned by users as a substitute for tactile perception. Analyzing the error statistics of the experiments, we argue that it would be worthwhile to create a system in which the sound parameters could be locally tuned to enhance performance on a user-per-user basis. To this end, we convert the analytical descriptions of our sounds into an higher-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) based tensor product model form. In order to be able to apply a wide range of mathematical analysis tools - such as principal component analysis and user performance-oriented adaptivity - we demonstrate that it is possible to convert our models into such canonical forms. © 2010 ieee.

GPUs are many-core processors with tremendous computational power. However, as automatic parallelization has not been realized yet, developing high-performance parallel code for GPUs is still very challenging. The paper presents a novel translation framework designed for virtual execution environment based on CPU/GPU architecture. It addresses two major challenges of taking advantage of general purpose computation on graphics processing units (GPGPU) to improve performance: no rewriting the existing source code and resolving binary compatibility issues between different GPUs. The translation framework uses semi-automatic parallelization technology to port existing code to explicitly parallel programming models. It not only offers a mapping strategy from X86 platform to CUDA programming model, but also synchronizes the execution between the CPU and the GPUs. The input to our translation framework is parallelizable part of the program within binary code. With an additional information related to the parallelizable part, the translation framework transforms the sequential code into PTX code and execute it on GPUs. Experimental results on several programs from CUDA SDK Code Samples and Parboil Benchmark Suite show that our translation framework could achieve very high performance, even up to several tens of times speedup over the X86 native version. © 2010 ieee.

Experimental investigation of planetary rovers' behavior requires low gravity (LG) simulation. It is true because rovers may have insufficient power to move and sink much deeper into soft soil in 1-g gravity environment. Constant-tension suspension is considered the best possible way for gravity compensation (GC) of rovers. Constant-tension cable has to be kept vertical, so tension generator mounts an active planar position-servo system to follow the suspended subject. Traditional suspension system, such as that for space arms or satellite reflectors, applies counterbalance forces to the center of mass (CoM) of each moving object of the tested subject. However, this approach is inappropriate for rovers that usually contain multiple moving objects. Such GC system for rocker-bogie rovers contains five constant-tension generators, five active planar position servos, and multiple on-rover attitude sensors. It's far too complicated and unnecessary. By analysis on gravitational effects on rovers, this paper brings forward the conclusion that keeping pressure of each wheel is sufficient and necessary to ensure all concerned low gravity behaviors of rovers. Applying counterbalance forces to CoM of all the moving objects is proven unnecessary. Compensation forces required to ensure wheel pressures are derived. Single constant-tension suspension system for rover is invented accordingly, the schematic diagram of which is shown. The system includes a novel passive force-distribution mechanism to distribute compensation force to wheels. software simulation results are presented to validate the work of this paper. ©2010 ieee.

This paper proposes a framework, which integrates the development and operation environments for cloud applications. Adopting perspectives on lifecycle management, the framework is equipped with tools and platforms, which seamlessly integrate lifetime phases: requirement analysis, architecture design, application implementation, operation and improvement. These are predicated on theories in design engineering, enabling identification of constraints arising in the development process and of dependencies among functional modules. A case study shows the feasibilities of the design principles, and indicates possibilities for the framework to be an application Platform as a Service (APaaS), which can form an ecosystem of datacenter operators, systems integrators and application providers.

In order to improve and to shorten product and production development as well as to reach a higher planning and product quality, in industrial companies the use of software tools is state of the art. Particularly in the field of manufacturing process planning known as Digital Manufacturing a wide range of different and specialized software tools is used, e.g. in assembly planning, logistics planning or layout planning. In order to reduce planning effort and to increase planning quality, relevant planning data of the product and production development process must be available to any software tool employed. But due to the lack of open and generally accepted data standards a continuous exchange of data between software tools is hardly possible. The paper on hand introduces a methodology for enabling a standardized description of planning data. In this approach, application-specific data models are used to define data relevant for a certain domain of the product and production development process.

In this paper, researches on new RFID general framework based on J2EE and data cleaning are proposed in bus park information integration system. We use middle ware and J2EE to lower the coupling; use new technology to improve testing, use data stream cleaning method that optimizes the overall accuracy adjusted cleaning costs. A web application system is described and a multi-level distributive application model is provided, thus helping to maintain the consistency of management of the bus park database as well as to conduct the dynamic update and maintenance of data. At the same time, a high-efficiency RFID data stream cleaning framework is employed to ensure reliability of data in the system. It is proved by the experiment that this system has a promising application prospect.

Along with the rapid development and wide use of digitalized technology, the image precision also has swift and violent increase. But the ultra-resolution images with up to hundreds million pixels have very large data size. In order to browse and display those images rapidly and sufficiently, a universal framework is presented. On the one hand, a pyramid-based hierarchy is used to partition and manage image data for browsing rapidly. On the other hand, a multi-projector large format display system is adopted to provide an immersive sense. In addition, a video capture board as a mediator is equipped to transmit the image data conveniently. The results demonstrate that the framework is effective and efficient, which can manage data easily and browse image rapidly. And its devices are universal and scalable.

Embedded systems have become more and more important in our lives. However almost the security protections dedicates in the PC system defense, and there is little effort in the research of the embedded systems security. Embedded systems are in danger. What is more, there are varied kinds of embedded systems platforms, which exacerbate the protection in the embedded systems. This paper is going to present a security solution which is based on the TCM and FPGA. TCM contains efficient trusted software system but it has the flash- guard flaw in the embedded systems application. One of the main responsibilities of our systems is the protection of flash integrity, which is called flash guard embedded system (FGES). In this particle, we will specially analyze the security of the FGES when it meets all kinds of vicious attacks. FGES could also easily update for different security level safeguard.
