With the increasing number and functional complex of automotive electronic equipment, more risks from systematic failures and random hardware faults may occur. In light of the fact that a failure of an automotive programmable electronic system may lead to injuries and even loss of life it is extremely important to perform the hazard analysis during the process of design and development of these systems to minimize the risk of the occurrence of such disastrous events. In this paper, a comprehensive hazard analysis method based on functional model is proposed. This method overcomes the narrower scope of individual techniques while obtaining the benefits of all of them. The process of functional modelling and safety analysis is outlined and the proposed hazard analysis method is applied to Automated Mechanical Transmission (AMT) control system and the analysis results are integrated.

The paper presents a concept of hand movements recognition on the basis of EMG signal analysis. Signal features are represented by coefficient of autoregressive (AR) model, and as classifier the original multiclassifier systems with dynamic ensemble selection are applied. The performance of the proposed methods was experimentally compared against three classifiers using real datasets. The systems developed achieved the highest overall classification accuracies demonstrating the potential of dynamic classifier selection for recognition of EMG signals. ©2010 IEEE.

The magnetic characteristics of nano-crystalline alloy MN-11 tape-wound magnetic core are studied and a mathematical model of the current transformer with such magnetic core is made in the form of block diagram of the servo system. Designed and manufactured current sensor for digital control systems in the form of high-precision current transformer with a specified minimum value of the rated instrument security factor of the secondary winding. Experimentally confirmed the high level of metrological performances of the sensor and their practical stability in the frequency range 50-2000 Hz.

This paper addresses the issue of system modelling for fault detection in nonlinear systems. In many practical situations a primary model (physical model or linearized model) of a nonlinear system already exists. In such cases, we propose to build an auxiliary model that drives the residual of the combined (primary plus auxiliary) model to zero during fault-free operation. The auxiliary model can be built by any data-driven technique in real time. Once the auxiliary model is built and the combined residual converges to zero, the model parameters are kept constant;after this, the model can be used as the basis for fault detection in the original nonlinear system. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme is effective and has potential application ability in fault detection and identification (FDI). ©2010 IEEE.

In this paper we illustrate an ongoing project focused on intraoperative monitoring of haemodynamic stability and cardiorespiratory interactions, and present an example analysis of vital signs recorded synchronously from multiple monitoring devices through a LabView©-based acquisition software termed "Global Collect". We present two moving average models for the black box estimation of the gains of the cardiopulmonary baroreflex control of arterial resistance and of ventricular contractility, based on invasive, continuous measurements of arterial blood pressure and central venous pressure. As a proof-of-concept, we analyze the effects of a fluid-challenge maneuver performed during major surgery, quantifying the mechanisms through which such maneuvers are able to increase cardiac performance and hence enhance venous return. These preliminary results of a pilot case study demonstrate the potential of investigating autonomic nervous system control of circulation under general anesthesia in advancing intraoperative patient monitoring and aiding maintenance of haemodynamic stability in patients undergoing major surgery. ©2010 IEEE.

The smart metering system is used for the remote measurement of measurands for a purpose of billing, and to process and transmit measurement results. Generation and transmission of measurement information by electric impulses has already been used at summarizing billing meters where the base meter is equipped with the impulses generator which directly or indirectly emits impulse to a master summarizing meter. The application of more developed remote meter reading systems has intensified in the last decade of previous century. Today, most of distribution companies in Europe use remote meter reading systems to read the electricity consumption of industrial facilities on medium and high voltage level of distribution. The smart metering system allows continuous reading and recording of many measurands, e.g. power quality and load curve, as well as early-stage failure detection, monitoring of the meter lid opening alarm (detection of unlicensed actions), detection of the opposite energy flow and many other appropriate signals. The advantage of these systems, besides the remote reading, is the possibility to control and set-up the parameters of the system without sending a human to the location. All mentioned induces the long-term reduction in financial expenses for the distribution system operator. The most common communication systems for information and control signals transmission are GSM (Global System Mobile) and PLC (Power Line Carrier). PLC is prevailing lately due to its smaller cost and independence of the GSM operator. The PLC technology is mostly used to the closest distribution transformer station, from where information is carried to the rest of the system by optic cables. The primary constraint on application of described systems is cost reduction and reaching reasonable cost effectiveness.

The frequency spectrum is a limited shared resource, nowadays interested by an ever growing number of different applications. Generally, the companies providing such services pay to the governments the right of using a limited portion of the spectrum, consequently they would be assured that the licensed radio spectrum resource is not interested by significant external interferences. At the same time, they have to guarantee that their devices make an efficient use of the spectrum and meet the electromagnetic compatibility regulations. In this framework, the competent authorities are called to control the access to the spectrum adopting suitable management and monitoring policies, as well as the manufacturers have to periodically verify the correct working of their apparatuses. To these aims an innovative measurement method for spectrum monitoring and management is proposed in this paper. It performs an efficient sequential analysis based on a sample by sample digital processing. Three main issues are in particular pursued: (i) measurement performance comparable to that exhibited by other methods proposed in literature;(ii) fast measurement time, (iii) easy implementation on cost-effective digital signal processing hardware.
