Digital fingerprinting is a forensic method against illegal copying of digital contents. In this paper, a practical digital image fingerprinting based on the Boneh-Shaw scheme is analyzed using Design of Experiments (DOE). First, DOE is used to analyze and identify significant parameters that affect the performance of the digital image fingerprinting algorithm. Then, parameter tuning to optimize the performance against JPEG compression is carried out based on the significant factors obtained from the DOE analysis

A simple, fast and efficient noise-reduction protocol for three-dimensional electron tomographic reconstructions of biological material is presented. The approach is based on iterative application of median filtering and shows promise for automatic noise reduction as a preprocessor for automated data analysis tools which aim at segmentation, feature extraction and patternrecognition. The application of this algorithm produces encouraging results for a wide variety of experimental and synthetic electron tomographic reconstructions. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Due to the vogue of digital cameras, it is easy to obtain digital images. And with the rapid development of digital image processing, database and internet technologies, how to efficiently manage a large amount of digital images become very important. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel method, which integrates the principal component analysis (PCA) and modular radial basis function (MRBF) neural networks for semantic-based image content classification. Since the traditional RBF neural networks are sensitive to center initialization and time-consuming in the training procedure. To overcome these drawbacks, a combination of self-organizing map (SOM) neural network and learning vector quantization (LVQ) is used to select more appropriate centers for RBF networks, and a specific designed MRBF neural networks is used to improve the classification accuracy and accelerate the training time. Experimental results show that the proposed method is capable of analyzes the component of photograph into semantic categories with high accuracy and the result of photograph analysis is similar to human perception.

Connected components labeling is a commonly used procedure when performing imageanalysis and segmentation, as well as patternrecognition processing. The state-of-the-art approach, proposed by (S.-H. Yang et al., 2005), uses a parallel algorithm to achieve high speed operation. Based on it, an area and speed efficient VLSI architecture was designed. However, as the size of the input image increases, the area cost increases as well. This paper proposes an optimization for the method from (S.-H. Yang et al., 2005), achieving considerable area cost reduction, mainly when large images are considered. The area economy is accomplished by processing the input image in partitions of columns. This way, the higher the number of columns of the input image, the greater will be the area cost reduction.
