Currently state-of-the-art trackers rely on fully convolutional neural network (FCNN) for extracting salient features in order to create an appearance representation of the target. Ordinarily, most of them intend to work with input streams from the visible spectrum, yet how does an input stream from the infrared spectrum and a fused visible-infrared stream affect their performances and how does it benefit or detriment them? Towards this end, we compare the performance of various reference trackers utilizing FCNN for feature extraction, on visible, infrared and fused spectrums. By utilizing a carefully processed publicly available data set for the evaluation, containing visible-infrared paired sequences, we ensure to find synchronized and same attributes at the same locations, effectively studying only the impact of a spectral change. Thus, by analyzing quantitative results, we identify visual attributes which benefit or detriment from a fused approach on typical visual tracking scenarios.

In this work, we present a new module for semantic segmentation. This new module is designed as a plug in module for the backbone networks to further boosting the segmentation performance using the principal semantic feature analysis with covariance attention. Specifically, the spatial and channel covariance attention module are designed respectively, which can filter noisy regions and help the CNN to adaptively extract the dominant semantic content. By using the proposed covariance attention modules, a covariance attention architecture is built over FCN. Experimental results demonstrate the substantial benefits brought by the proposed covariance attention scheme, and show that the covariance attention mechanism is feasible and effective for improving the accuracy of semantic segmentation.

The insulating gas around heating conductor with high current flows continuously, the density of the insulating gas is not uniformly distributed, and there is a lack of relevant experimental measurements at present. In this paper, we analyze the inhomogeneity of gas density distribution around the heating conductors when different high currents are passed in the air by schlieren technique, and calculate the velocity of gas by optical flow method, so as to determine its flow pattern. The experimental results show that: there are obvious differences in the density distribution of the insulating gas in different regions around the conductor, and the closer to the upper surface region of the conductor, the greater the difference; with the increase of the current gas flow rate increases, the gas density inhomogeneity increases; for the experimental samples mentioned in this paper, the maximum flow velocity of the insulating gas is about 0.45m/s when the conductor steady state temperature rise is 64K, the maximum Reynolds number is about 2475, the gas does not develop into turbulence. The maximum velocity values and maximum Reynolds number at different steady state currents (Tr) were analysed comparatively and some patterns were obtained. This experimental and analytical methods can provide a reference for the study of the gas distribution characteristics and flow state around the heating conductor inside the enclosed gas-insulated electrical equipment.

In this work, we introduce a novel energy-based framework that addresses the challenging problem of 3D reconstruction of facial hair from a single RGB image. To this end, we identify hair pixels over the image via texture analysis and then determine individual hair fibers that are modeled by means of a parametric hair model based on 3D helixes. We propose to minimize an energy composed of several terms, in order to adapt the hair parameters that better fit the image detections. The final hairs respond to the resulting fibers after a post-processing step where we encourage further realism. The resulting approach generates realistic facial hair fibers from solely an RGB image without assuming any training data nor user interaction. We provide an experimental evaluation on real-world pictures where several facial hair styles and image conditions are observed, showing consistent results and establishing a comparison with respect to competing approaches.

In order to realize the visual reconstruction and feature extraction of library multi-scene VR service mode, the library multi-scene 3D reconstruction and service mode recognition under 5G environment are required. A library multi-scene VR service reconstruction technology based on virtual reality VR visual feature analysis and service mode simulation is proposed. Firstly, RFID radio frequency tag identification technology is used to collect images of service reliability areas of libraries in 5G environment, and VR visual information simulation technology is used to enhance the collected images. Then, VR technology is used to track and render the contour and texture of the image edge to realize the visual feature reconstruction, service pattern recognition and three-dimensional scene reconstruction of VR service patterns in multiple scenes of the library. Finally, an actual library multi-scene VR service reconstruction simulation experiment is carried out. The results show that the method can realize the integrity detection of library multi-scene features in 5G environment, and the output image quality is high. The library multi-scene VR service mode in 5G environment is improved. © 2020 IEEE.

Recently, axial data (i.e. the observations are axes of direction) have been involved with various fields ranging from blind speech separation to gene expression data clustering. In this paper, axial data modeling is performed by proposing a nonparametric infinite Watson mixture model which is constructed in a collapsed space (denoted by Co-InWMM) where the mixing coefficients are integrated out. Then, an effective collapsed variational Bayes (CVB) inference method is theoretically developed to learn the Co-InWMM with closed-from solutions. The proposed Co-InWMM with CVB inference for modeling axial data is validated through both synthetical data sets and a challenging application regarding depth image analysis.

This paper presents a 3D reconstruction process for an archaeological pottery. Because of the shape of the pottery and its fracture, applying existing methods of registration did not yield the desired result. Thus, to improve the registration output and accuracy, a custom acquisition setup was used to acquire the point cloud data after it was calibrated. The setup was also cost effective, a consideration that is useful for archaeologists. Furthermore, the acquired point clouds were pre-processed to remove noise and outliers. Key-points were extracted from the point clouds using Principal Component analysis (PCA) and descriptors were computed adapting the ColorSHOT descriptor. With correspondences between the key-points of point clouds established, a pairwise alignment of the point clouds was done. Finally, the global registration was done on all the point clouds, with ICP used to refine the alignment for all the point clouds. The peculiarity of the approach of this paper is in adapting and adjusting parameters as required due to the peculiar nature of the data acquired. This improved the robustness of this approach, evident in the final registration output.

Bifurcation points are typically considered as landmark points for retinal image registration. Robust detection, description and accurate matching of landmark points between images are crucial for successful registration of image pairs. This paper introduces a novel descriptor named Binary Descriptor for Retinal Bifurcation Point (BDRBP), so that bifurcation point can be described and matched more accurately. BDRBP uses four patterns that are reminiscent of Haar basis function. It relies on pixel intensity difference among groups of pixels within a patch centering on the bifurcation point to form a binary string. This binary string is the descriptor. Experiments are conducted on publicly available retinal image registration dataset named FIRE. The proposed descriptor has been compared with the state-of-the art Li Chen et al.'s method for bifurcation point description. Experiments show that bifurcation points can be described and matched with an accuracy of 86-90% with BDRBP, whereas, for Li Chen et al.'s method the accuracy is 43-78%.
