virtual power plant(VPP) is a fusion application of "Internet of Things +" and electric power industry, a new generation of smart grid control technology and interactive business model that aggregates and optimises "source, network, load and storage", which relies on modern advanced communication technology, carries out collaborative optimization control and market transactions, realizes multi-energy complementarity on the power side and flexible interaction on the load side, and provides forward-looking solutions for cracking the problem of clean energy consumption and low-carbon energy transformation. It relies on modern advanced communication technology to carry out cooperative optimisation control and market trading, realises multi-energy complementarity on the power side and flexible interaction on the load side, creates an active, convenient and sharing ecosystem for emerging market players, provides forward-looking solutions for solving the problems of clean energy consumption and low-carbon energy transformation, and helps the construction of "three types and two grids". This paper focuses on the problem of VPP, firstly, combined with the actual operation of the power grid, analyses the main needs in the process of power grid operation. Secondly, it analyses the characteristics of VPPs, the application scenarios of participating in grid operation, as well as the connection relationship with the existing grid scheduling and the market, and finally, on this basis, it looks forward to the operation prospect of VPPs in China and the problems that need to be solved. © The Authors.

The number of road accidents is decreasing slightly in developed countries, mainly due to technological advancements and government actions. However, accidents involving vulnerable users, such as pedestrians, remain high. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are expected to benefit pedestrians, though their interaction with pedestrians raises questions. Common driver behaviors like gestures, eye contact, and flashing lights indicate a willingness to yield, which AVs must replicate. Our research compares two experiments: a virtual reality (VR) pedestrian crossing with an LED display on a virtual AV and a real traffic scenario using the same LED display on an actual car. We investigated how much pedestrians rely on LED communication and whether there are differences between VR and real-world settings. A questionnaire gathered demographic data and trust levels in LEDs. The VR experiment had 51 participants, while the real traffic experiment involved 136 pedestrians. Overall, 82% responded positively to the LED display, with gender and age being insignificant factors. A rapid learning process indicated that explicit communication patterns were self-explanatory. In the VR experiment, 75% moderately trusted the LED display, while 18% fully trusted it. In real traffic, 44% fully trusted the display after familiarization, but skepticism was higher compared to the VR setting. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

As computer science and information technology develop rapidly, virtual reality (VR) technology increasingly affects every aspect of daily life especially in the field of education. Applying virtual reality technology (virtual Reality - VR) in mechanical vocational training brings many benefits and significant reforms in the learning and practice process of students and workers. VR allows creating accurate simulations of working environments in specialized mechanical engineering, helping learners become familiar with equipment, machines and work processes without having to directly interact with pre-existing equipment. or dangerous. Practice exercises in VR can help learners develop practical skills safely and effectively. Furthermore, VR provides the ability to interact directly and receive immediate feedback, helping students better understand processes and techniques, thereby improving their skills. Using VR in training helps reduce costs associated with using and maintaining realistic mechanical equipment, and VR simulations can be used repeatedly without wear or damage. Besides, VR creates an engaging and interesting learning environment, enhancing students’ learning motivation as well as other communication methods. This technology also allows the organization of distance learning courses, helping students in different locations participate in training programs without having to move. The research focuses on understanding the application of VR technology research in mechanical engineering training. The research results solve limitations in mechanical engineering training. The study aims to compare the Flipped Classroom teaching–learning method with the traditional one among secondary school students. The objective is to introduce students to extended reality by having them design their own 3D CAD models and enhance their value using virtual and augmented reality, as well as 3D printing. Students were assigned the task of creating a 3D model of a basic geometry character and were provided with multimedia tools to implement the Flipped Classroom teaching–learning method. They were taught about value enhancement and given a free platform to visualize and interact with their designs using virtual and augmented reality glasses. The process also included transitioning from virtual models to tangible ones through additive manufacturing, all using free software. The methodology was evaluated through student surveys to measure results compared to traditional teaching methods and the effectiveness of interactive resources. The study showed various improvements in students’ understanding of 3D Modeling and its value enhancement through virtual reality and physical transformation. In conclusion, the Flipped Classroom method is presented as an attractive and effective approach for 3rd-year secondary education students. It fosters improvements and encourages group work in 3D CAD Modeling. The use of extended reality tools notably enhances students’ spatial concepts and their ability to virtually interact with their designs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Heavy haul is the development trend of world railway cargo transportation. The 30,000 to 40,000-ton heavy-haul train is another upgrade of China’s heavy-haul railway technology. However, regular operation requires a lot of theoretical research and experimental test. Due to the long marshaling length of 30,000 to 40,000-ton heavy-haul train, extremely high requirements are placed on the experiment site. This article proposes two train equivalent schemes, decomposed type, and compressed type, as well as two equivalent methods, primary equivalence, and secondary equivalence. This article also analyzes their respective advantages and disadvantages, and finally proposes an experiment scheme for 30,000 to 40,000-ton heavy-haul train based on the combination of virtual and reality technology. This paper investigates the use of nano-fluids in Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) for electric vehicles (EVs), where they are essential for safety and to extend battery life. As the EV industry develops rapidly, battery thermal management is essential to ensure efficient battery performance under diverse operating conditions. In this study, the recent technology of BTMS using nanoparticles including CNT, graphene and metal oxides to enhance the efficiency of cooling systems will be evaluated. The research methodology conducted a literature review based on different cooling methods such as liquid cooling systems, phase change materials (PCM), and hybrid techniques to assess how nanoparticles are handled in terms of battery temperature regulation. According to the findings, this can make the operation of heat conduction more efficient and lower battery operating temperatures while improving battery longevity by keeping its charge. PCM with nano-fluid together is indicated can deliver more uniform and fast cooling. Overall, this find not only reinforces the nanoparticle sustainable functionalities in BTMS but also assists the effort of an eco-friendly and green BTMS technology in facilitating a technological revolution upon electric vehicles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

With the rapid advancement of information and communication technology, there arises an increasing demand for heightened computing capabilities to facilitate a myriad of intelligent services. The computing power network (CPN) amalgamates an array of resources including cloud and edge devices to enable collaborative sensing, routing, and scheduling. This integration significantly amplifies the utilization of computing network resources while concurrently augmenting service quality. In the realm of multi-node distributed joint computing within CPNs conventional scheduling methodologies frequently neglect the interplay between computing and the network, resulting in suboptimal task scheduling. To address this issue, this study proposes a delay-optimized task scheduling mechanism based on deep reinforcement learning. Simulation results demonstrate that this framework achieves faster convergence speed, particularly under dual-depth networks, outperforming other algorithms in reducing system delays, energy and enhancing scheduling efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This paper explores the engine performance characteristics of rice bran biodiesel fuel and its potential as a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel fuel. The study investigates the composition and properties of blended rice bran biodiesel, conducts experimental tests on a single-cylinder engine, and optimizes the biodiesel blend for improved engine performance. The study also analysed the characteristics, performance experiments, and optimization of rice bran biodiesel blends. The experimental work has been carried out to assess rice bran biodiesel blends at different ratios, particularly for B10, B20, B30, and B40. According to the study's results, optimizing the combustion processes for each fuel blend is essential to lower emissions, improve engine performance, and reduce combustion emissions. As the world explores more sustainable and renewable energy sources, rice bran biodiesel promises a more efficient and environmentally friendly future, particularly in regions with abundant rice bran resources. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
