The focus of multimedia education system has increased lately. In this paper, we will first explain an error detection-recovery agent for multimedia distance education system based on RCSM (Reconfigurable Context-Sensitive middleware). DOORAE is a good example for developing multimedia distance education system based on RCSM between students and teachers during lecture. The development of multimedia computers and communication techniques has made it possible for a mind to be transmitted from a teacher to a student in distance environment. This method detects error by using process database periodically to find some error based on RCSM. If error is found, this paper took the first steps towards learning to coordinate actions in multi-agent systems based on RCSM for classifying the type of errors. If an error is to be recovered, this system uses the same method as it creates a session. EDRA-RCSM is a system that is suitable for detecting and recovering software error for multimedia distance education system based on RCSM by using software techniques. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In urgent and emergency response situations, publish-subscribe services need to go beyond information dissemination to facilitate response collection, and even collaboration, among the recipients. We introduce flexible delivery, role-based subscription guidance, and historical event matching to address the requirements of urgent response applications. Flexible delivery allows publishers to choose the most appropriate communication technique for the urgent situation. Role-based guidance provides an interface for subscribing to events from the user's perspective. Historical event matching allows subscribers to join ongoing collaborations for events that occurred in the past. Together theses techniques allow the creation and support of ad hoc communities of interest to address urgent situations. We report our experience with these techniques during 3 years of production use for escalating product repair issues for our company. Forum provides the first production use cases that require historical matching of persistent events in publish-subscribe services. Copyright © 2009 ACM.

This paper introduces an ultrasonic communication system for biotelemetry in extremely shallow waters (under 3 meters). This application domain is notable for its tight constraints on device size, weight, and energy. We have developed this communication system as a fundamental component of the RaPTEX toolchain, which aims to simplify the prototyping and analysis of underwater communication systems. This paper's primary contribution is hardware and software for an ultrasonic communications system which successfully operates in extremely shallow waters. It is tailored for short-range disposable biotelemetry applications, as it can be implemented with simple hardware and inexpensive, power-sipping microcontrollers, rather than more demanding digital signal processors. The system presented also has a very low part count, not only making it small and lightweight but also cheap so it can be deployed in large numbers. We present the system design and then evaluate its performance. Copyright 2008 ACM.

‘MEGAPHONE’ is a pilot multimedia application combining the functions of a video phone with the features of a workstation. It is built upon an object oriented framework that provides workstation-based personal multimedia communication. The video phone functions are fully integrated into the user interface of the workstation used. In addition to the face-to-face meeting mode known from video conference studios, the application offers a shared workspace for discussion, presentation and exchange of digital documents. The integration of telecommunication services with computer conference applications shows useful insights into the architecture of upcoming multimedia applications and their demands on the underlying operating system and network software. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1993.

The Internet of Things makes use of a huge disparity of technologies at very different levels that help one to the other to accomplish goals that were previously regarded as unthinkable in terms of ubiquity or scalability. If the Internet of Things is expected to interconnect every day devices or appliances and enable communications between them, a broad range of new services, applications and products can be foreseen. For example, monitoring is a process where sensors have widespread use for measuring environmental parameters (temperature, light, chemical agents, etc.) but obtaining readings at the exact physical point they want to be obtained from, or about the exact wanted parameter can be a clumsy, time-consuming task that is not easily adaptable to new requirements. In order to tackle this challenge, a proposal on a system used to monitor any conceivable environment, which additionally is able to monitor the status of its own components and heal some of the most usual issues of a Wireless Sensor Network, is presented here in detail, covering all the layers that give it shape in terms of devices, communications or services.

Adaptive resource allocation is becoming an important feature to run parallel and grid applications: to better share space and time according to current workload, to schedule around obstacles as from reservation, to deal with varying system load under time-shared execution, and to deal with lack of accurate predictability on heterogeneous resources. Adaptation is potentially very expensive if total data repartitioning is required. Existing approaches of implementing large numbers of MPI "processes" via threads suffer from frequent thread switches, inefficient local communication, and being fixed to the chosen number of threads. Our ATOP middleware provides an approach which uses as many processes as there are processors and partitions and migrates the data, while processing the data per process as one data collection. For the partitioning and migration, we employ the Zoltan load-balancing library which is highly portable and supports a large variety of load-balancing approaches, including those of ParMETIS and Jostle. Exploiting features of Zoltan, we propose pre-partitioning (over-partitioning) of data graphs (reducing adaptation cost down to 25%) but can also flexibly decide to partition from scratch (for cases where over-partitioning does not perform well or where non-fitting numbers of resources need to be chosen). This model provides multi-layer structure, communication, transactions, security, fault tolerance and many other basic services for building a large-scale, high-performance, distributed application. This paper presents BEA Tuxedo and the application of Tuxedo in a banking system.

The need of mobility on public transport for persons with visual impairment is mandatory. While traveling on a public transport, the simple ability to know the current location is almost impossible for such persons. To overcome this hurdle, we developed an assistive application that can alert its user to the proximity of all public transportation stops, giving emphasis to the chosen final stop. The application is adjustable to any transportation system and is particularly relevant to use in public transports that do not have any audio system available. The developed prototype runs on an Android OS device equipped with Global Positioning system (GPS). To ensure the highest possible level of reliability and to make it predictable to users, the application's architecture is free of as much dependencies as possible. Therefore, only GPS, or other localization mechanism, is required. The interface was designed to be suitable not only for talkback (Android's inbuilt screen-reader) aimed at blind users, but also for people with low vision that can still use their sight to check the screen. Thus, it was meant to be graphically simple and unobtrusive. It was tested by visual impaired persons leading to the conclusion that it demonstrates an existing need, and opens a new perspective in public transportation's accessibility.

Not available services or service interruption could have different impact to our social life. Emails or messages which are not delivered in a proper time-frame could lead to omit a meeting or a discussion with colleagues. Interconnected CPS in different domains, like autonomous driving, smart grids, Industry 4.0, needs a guaranteed and safe delivery of information. Nowadays distributed application in critical infrastructures such as transportation (e.g. air traffic management, train control, traffic management), financial services, or electricity systems, are often implemented in dedicated network infrastructures not using the public Internet. This leads to high expenditures (CAPEX and OPEX) for the companies to maintain these separated and dedicated telecommunication infrastructure. Our approach in this work is to verify concepts to share the Internet, as a telecommunication infrastructure for critical and non-critical applications. This reduces the effort to implement and to manage different communication architectures. The present work develops and evaluates methods and procedures that enable high reliable communication between two endpoints over several shared telecommunication networks for future critical and uncritical applications. Our approach shows that it is possible to use the public Internet for future communication requirements in a converged network. Further innovations include the integration of novel network technologies, such as software-defined networks (SDN), programming protocol independent packet processors (P4), and self-adaptive and autonomous network management functions. © Springer international Publishing AG 2017.
