Today's software systems are increasingly required to be flexible which is achieved by providing various forms of loose coupling and configuration options. While loose coupling and configuration options facilitate quick adaptation to changing requirements, such flexibility increases the difficulty of system testing. It is often relatively straight-forward to create different configuration options as test cases, but it is typically much more difficult to formulate the expected system behavior, which is known as the oracle problem. NASA's GMSEC software bus is such a flexible system that serves as a central communication channel for software components based on a publish and subscribe architecture where several software components can be dynamically connected to the system. To cope with the difficulties in testing such a flexible software system, we present a metamorphic testing approach that explicitly addresses the test oracle problem. In this paper, we focus on testing the publish and subscribe functionality of GMSEC motivated by the fact that its middleware-based system architecture is the foundation of many of NASA's missions.

To measure a vehiclepsilas lateral position relative to the lane of the road a low cost system can be developed to measure it. While operating the system during day and night it has the capability to track white or orange lines, solid or dashed edge lines. The system is comprised of two ldquooff the shelf ldquoblack and white charge coupled devices (CCD) video cameras along with commonly available electronic components. The lane system is capable of outputting real time data at 30 Hz through an analog output. Using the data from this sensor system it is possible to detect the lane changes, determines the magnitude, duration of lane exceedance and other metrics used by researchers in transportation community. This paper will discuss the design and performance of the system, processing of raw lane trackers data, and benefits and limitations of the technology.

A wireless sensor network (WSN) can be envisaged as a distributed system where the sensor nodes (clients) continuously update the sensed information to the sink (server). In many real-time environments exact replica of data is not required by the end application to deduce the result. Data estimation/prediction techniques at the sink can be used to infer the desired output. The proposed design is an improvement of the model as proposed by Santini which uses the traditional LMS algorithm to predict the desired output at the sink. In this work we solve the synchronization of mode problem in the Santinipsilas model by effectively utilizing the the principles of adaptive filter theory. The focus of this paper is to make better use of communication resources in data replication platforms than approaches based on periodic refreshing.

In this paper, we have designed and implemented the system architecture for extensible mobile instant messaging and presence service over the IMS. More specifically, we have implemented the SIP proxy servers for IMS P-CSCF and S-CSCF for the realization of extensible mobile instant messaging and presence service. The salient feature of the proposed system architecture is that the architecture is based on IETF SIMPLE standard, and the extensibility of the presence service is achieved by implementing theOMA IMPS specification. An efficient algorithm is presented for achieving the extensible presence service over IMS. The implementation results show that the proposed system architecture can effectively provide not only interoperability but also extensibility for representing userspsila status information in the 3 G mobile communication environment.

Conflagration is one of the major disasters that threatens human life and property. If the proper action is not taken in detecting the symptom of conflagration events ahead of time, the number of such disasters will keep increasing. An effective solution in this context will alleviate many fire-related global problems to a great extent. Although fire detectors are not available in many places, WiFi networks are increasingly prevalent nowadays. Motivated by the previous works that used WiFi signals for the purpose of environment monitoring and activity recognition, we make an attempt to use WiFi signals to detect fire. Through several experiments, we find that fire influences the transmission of wireless signals uniquely, and consequently it affects the amplitude and phase of the resultant Channel State Information (CSI). Based on this observation, in this paper, we propose a device-free fire detection system, namely Wi-Fire, using commercial WiFi devices. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that leverages CSI of radio frequency (RF) signal to detect fire events using existing wireless infrastructure without requiring any additional device. We implement our proposed system on desktop computers equipped with commercial 802.11n network interface cards (NICs). Comprehensive experiments have been conducted for different scenarios in different environments to verify the effectiveness of our proposed system. The results verify that the fire detection accuracy of this training-based system is up to 96.67% on average.

Scalability and efficient global search in unstructured peer-to-peer overlays have been extensively studied in the literature. The global search comes at the expense of local interactions between peers. Most of the unstructured peer-to-peer overlays do not provide any performance guarantee. In this work we propose a novel Quality of Service enabled lookup for unstructured peer-to-peer overlays that will allow the user's query to traverse only those overlay links which satisfy the given constraints. Additionally, it also improves the scalability by judiciously using the overlay resources. Our approach selectively forwards the queries using QoS metrics like latency, bandwidth, and overlay link status so as to ensure improved performance in a scenario where the degree of peer joins and leaves are high. User is given only those results which can be downloaded with the given constraints. Also, the protocol aims at minimizing the message overhead over the overlay network.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been widely used in missing tag identification to reduce the economic loss caused by theft. Although many advanced works have been proposed, they cannot work properly in an open RFID system with unexpected tags. To solve the problem, this paper proposes an order-based missing tag identification protocol (OMTI) that efficiently identifies all missing tags even with the presence of unexpected tags. The key of OMTI is that we dynamically assign each tag a slot rather than use random hashes in traditional design. Namely, OMTI off-line sorts all known tags in advance by assigning each of them a unique and continuous slot, on-line identifies missing tags by checking tags' responses in each slot, and dynamically updates the slot assignment to ensure the high efficiency of the next execution. Besides, we enhance OMTI to make it works in the case of newly added tags. The simulation results demonstrate that OMTI can reduce the execution time by a factor of 12, compared with the polling-based approach.

Peer to peer file sharing is 'booming', but meanwhile censorship of these networks and prosecution of users that share censored content are growing just as quickly. In this paper, we propose a novel notion of deniability as an easy and efficient method for users to avoid censorship and prosecution. The fundamental concept is that a given data element, which contains controversial or censored content, is also associated with neutral-content material. Hence, even a powerful adversary capable of monitoring all communication in the network and viewing the internal state of participating hosts is unable to prove a link between censored content and a user. The communication overhead required to retrieve a document is only four times greater than what is needed in a standard network. The storage required for a document is only twice as large as the document itself. Deniability is an elegant alternative to user anonymity in P2P file sharing networks. systems that provide anonymity for users typically require greater overhead and do not guarantee anonymity against powerful, real-world adversaries.
