In this paper, a self organized Multi Agent system for Auto Mobile Robot (MAS4AMR) is described. The AMS4AMR enables the mobile robot to make corresponding driving action according to the always changing environment and make reaction to emergency condition. The MAS4AMR incorporate a communication middleware and a set of event-driven Agents, which enables the robot to initiate actions adaptively to the dynamical changes in the environment. The M4S4AMR is discussed in detail in this paper, and the simulation results are also presented.

As a communication mean, Personal Portal which is an entrance where each user can acquire his/her interested information on the network, is often used We have problems on the existing Personal Portal described as follows. First, the program to realize the Personal Portal which is located on a specific Web Server, becomes large-scaled and complicated. Because Web pages as Personal Portal depend on that program, those Web pages can't always be useful for each user equally. Therefore, to solve these problems, we developed two kinds of new Web Service which are realized on the network with DACS(Destination Addressing Control system) Scheme, which is the network management scheme by communication control of client computers. By use of these Web Services, each user can create the customized Personal Portal, which displays the information by a user unit, for using in actual network easily and freely for oneself That is, a free information usage system is realized.

The management of real-time streaming data in large-scale collaborative applications presents major processing, communication and administrative challenges. To that end, an open-source RBNB DataTurbine provides an excellent basis for developing robust streaming data middleware. The current RBNB DataTurbine streaming data middleware system satisfies a core set of critical infrastructure requirements including reliable data transport, the promotion of sensors and sensor streams to first-class objects, a framework for the integration of heterogeneous instruments, and a comprehensive suite of services for data management, routing, synchronization, monitoring, and visualization. As a part of PRAGMA telescience group, in collaboration with the National Center for High- Performance Computing (NCHC) Taiwan, researchers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) deployed RBNB DataTurbine-based system to acquire data from underwater cameras (in the ocean) at Renting. More specifically, we describe a system that integrates sensors (underwater video cameras) with computing and storage Grids to create a complete fabric for conducting e-Science. The system is currently used for observation by marine research scientists at the Research Center for Biodiversity, Academia Sinica in Taiwan. The described system increased performance and availability of the captured videos and we are, so far, pleased with its results.

Efficient and uniform method of passing data between operating system components is an important need in the evolving era of middleware-based computing. In this paper we describe VSPACE, an object oriented framework providing flexible interface for passing arbitrary information to system services and between components providing the service. Object oriented methodologies had been proved to be reliable and scalable strategy in application and middleware design, however operating system core principles have mostly resisted this progressive approach. We make another step to cross this interdisciplinary boundary and show that this paradigm can simplify intercomponent communication in modular way. We define an abstract class - VSPACE - representing an address space domain of any kind. Instead of passing pointers to functions calls, like in traditional operating systems, we pass a VSPACE object across local invocations. Components providing various aspects of operating system functionality access their data using VSPACE methods. Our system core has prepared VSPACE classes for each process address space, its own address space and each open file handle. Moreover, any component can create its own VSPACE objects to let the rest of the system access its data in extensible manner. VSPACE provides unified high-performance solution for some convoluted features that has creeped into operating system design recently: direct 10, asynchronous 10 and zero-copy networking.

Creating an innovative mediator environment such as graphical user interfaces, lighter weight languages to help the users in the challenging task of making unambiguous requests is crucial in semantic web applications. The query language in the Virtual Query system (VQS) of the SemanticLIFE framework is designed for this purpose. The proposed query language namely Virtual Query Language (VQL) is in a further effort of reducing complexity in query making from the user-side, as well as, simplifying the communication for components of the SemanticLIFE system with the VQS, and increasing the portability of the system.

in spite of a lot of developments in the fields of mobile communication and multimedia technology, developing multimedia applications in mobile environment has remained a challenging task. This is because applications are primarily responsible for adapting themselves to the various contexts (such as network bandwidth, QoS, power situation etc.) in which thew applications run and these applications have to deliver content objects having varying formats in devices having a spectrum of capabilities using a protocol that may be one among several such protocols available. Earlier we have proposed an approach towards a software middleware model for handling multimedia data to deal with interoperabitity and service adaptability needs of mobile multimedia applications. Our middleware system is based on a generic multimedia object model that defines device and platform independent delivery of multimedia content. In this paper, one of our focuses is to achieve the definition of a Multimedia Object Model that suits;the proposed middleware. This paper refines the proposed middleware system in many different ways so that the building blocks identified in our middleware are specified completely. Moreover, this paper validates the robustness of the middleware through a set of Unit Sequence Diagrams. The contributions of this paper are: (i) It proposes the design of an adaptable mobile multimedia middleware, (ii) An adaptable multimedia object model is specified through Class Diagram. (iii) The design and definition of the middleware is sufficiently modeled by enumerating primary scenarios for the middleware and by verifying the design through sequence diagrams (iv) developing a functional prototype of distributed multimedia middleware incorporating MoM that strives to provide interoperability and service adaptability in mobile environments.

Transcoding functions are usefulness for intercommunication on interconnected heterogeneous computer networks. However, it is difficult for distributed communication systems to prepare the suitable transcoding functions in advance because the required intercommunication environments are not always static. Accordingly, we should consider dynamic transcoding functions with relocatable decision methods. In this paper we propose a middleware system that realizes dynamic transcoding functions by extendable media stream.

Pervasive and ad hoc computing applications are frequently deployed in dynamic networks. Due to mobility of the computing nodes, their unreliability, or a limited communication range, at any time a node may enter or leave an interaction between a group of application components. middleware approaches have been proposed to deal with these dynamics, by supporting the dissemination (or gathering) of information in dynamic networks. In our experience however, applications frequently need to execute a complete protocol to coordinate. Existing middleware can then be used as a discovery mechanism, but offers no support for handling the protocol itself. This paper presents a middleware model that enables an easier implementation of distributed protocols that need to take into account the continuously changing context in the dynamic network. It uses roles as a first order abstraction, handles the distributed instantiation of roles in an interaction session, and maintains the session as nodes in the mobile network move. We describe our experience with applying the middleware in a case study on a system of automatic guided vehicles. Copyright 2005 ACM.

Routing in publish/subscribe (pub/sub) features a communication model where messages are not given explicit destination addresses, but destinations are determined by matching the subscription declared by subscribers. For a dynamic computing environment with applications that have quality demands, this is not sufficient. Routing decision should, in such environments, not only depend on the subscription predicate, but should also take the quality-constraints of applications and characteristics of network paths into account. We identified three abstraction levels of these quality constraints: functional, middleware and network. The main contribution of the paper is the concept of the integration of these constraints into the pub/sub routing. This is done by extending the syntax of pub/sub system and applying four generic, proposed by us, guidelines. The added values of quality-constrained routing concept are: message delivery satisfying quality demands of applications, improvement of system scalability and more optimise use of the network resources. We discuss the use case that shows the practical value of our concept. Copyright 2004 ACM.

Currently, the interest in Ambient Intelligence (or AmI) has increased exponentially due to the widespread use of portable devices. Users demand more and more functionality from these devices, especially in order to perform collaborative tasks and interchange information. As a result, this technology proposes new challenges that must be addressed by both the hardware manufacturers and software Engineers. The first challenge is to provide a middleware platform providing specific AmI services like communication or device discovery and able to cope with several challenges posed by AmI applications. One of these challenges is to manage heterogeneity of devices that are present in AmI environments in a transparent way, and in particular to manage the evolution of such devices without breaking the code of already developed applications. Moreover, an AmI middleware platform has to support the evolution of the software architecture of AmI applications over time, making it possible to add new functionalities, to adapt applications to any technological changes, and to produce a product line of AmI platforms to be executed in different devices. A final challenge is that the middleware platform has to support the adaptation of AmI applications to unexpected and dynamic changes in AmI environments. Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) provides good and advanced solutions to the evolution management problem at different levels, so our work focuses on applying AOP to develop an AmI platform. In this paper, we will discuss these problems, propose solutions and present how these problems are handled in our AmI aspect-oriented platform named AOPAmI. This paper describes the internal platform structure and how it provides support to AmI devices. We will focus on the dynamic nature of AmI applications and on how to solve the above mentioned problems. Copyright 2005 ACM.
