Scalability and efficient global search in unstructured peer-to-peer overlays have been extensively studied in the literature. The global search comes at the expense of local interactions between peers. Most of the unstructured peer-to-peer overlays do not provide any performance guarantee. In this work we propose a novel Quality of Service enabled lookup for unstructured peer-to-peer overlays that will allow the user's query to traverse only those overlay links which satisfy the given constraints. Additionally, it also improves the scalability by judiciously using the overlay resources. Our approach selectively forwards the queries using QoS metrics like latency, bandwidth, and overlay link status so as to ensure improved performance in a scenario where the degree of peer joins and leaves are high. User is given only those results which can be downloaded with the given constraints. Also, the protocol aims at minimizing the message overhead over the overlay network.

In IETF's Fast Mobile IPv6, the mobile node may switches into the reactive mode of handover operation when the prediction of the movement is wrong. In this case, the mobile node may experience severe service disruption due to large handover latency and packet loss. In order to solve this problem, we propose a fast mobile IP handover with multiple pre-registration. In the proposed approach, the new IP addresses are prepared in advance at multiple locations where the mobile node may probably moves into. If the predictive mode of handover operation by FMIPv6 fails, the mobile node tries to move into the previously prepared locations. Therefore, delay time of generating new care-of-address is saved. We have built a prototype system, and measure the performance of the proposed system. The experimental results show that the proposed approach can reduce greatly the handover latency.

The Globus system is intended to achieve a vertically integrated treatment of application, middleware, and network. A low-level toolkit provides basic mechanisms such as communication, authentication, network information, and data access. These mechanisms are used to construct various higher level metacomputing services, such as parallel programming tools and schedulers. The longterm goal is to build an adaptive wide area resource environment (AWARE), an integrated set of higher level services that enable applications to adapt to heterogeneous and dynamically changing metacomputing environments. In this paper, we propose an advanced communication infrastructure of the agent-based middleware for ubiquitous computing environments. We focus on an adaptive communication mechanism between agent platforms, which can select a suitable communication scheme flexibly, based on properties of interagent communications and resource statuses. We performed some further experiments based on the results of initial experiments by using the prototype system with the proposed mechanism. From the additional results, we confirmed that the dynamic change of inter-platform communication scheme works effectively in order to realize the inter-agent communication requirements.
