This review paper is about the study of performance and emanations characteristics using blends of biofuel in a diesel-fueled engine. The present work discusses various experimental analyses of a biofuel blend as an alternative fuel with conventional diesel fuel. It is found that the performance of the engine slightly decreases, and emissions are brought down considerably with the addition of biofuel in neat diesel. In general, brake thermal efficiency (bth) decreases whereas BSFC increases while utilizing biofuel–diesel blends in the diesel engine. Furthermore, HC, CO, CO₂, and smoke emanations reduce as compared to petroleum diesel. NO_x emissions are uneven for biofuel/diesel blend as compared to standard diesel. Particulate matter and soot emissions are lower in biofuel/diesel blends in comparison to neat diesel. Moreover, the addition of nanoparticle and water emulsion in biofuel blends improves the performance and reduces emissions. Various techniques like EGR can be employed to reduce the NO_x levels but it also affects the engine performance adversely and slightly increases the other emissions. Overall, it is found that biodiesel obtained from biofuels can be a better substitute for conventional diesel fuel in the coming years. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In addition to the impact of combustion in the scramjet combustion system, the strut and wall injection system also supports to resolve the problem of heat transfer. The current research analytically examines the effect of a scramjet combustor on cavity and wall injection system. Outflow situations are 610 kPa, 1320 K, and 2.5, individually for stagnant temperature, stagnating pressure, and Mach number. The shock wave formation mechanism is evaluated. In addition, comparative analysis is conducted with the strut and wall injection techniques of combustion characteristics. The results indicate that the combustion and mixing probabilities are improved by using the strut injection system in the combustion unit. This study covered the CFD analysis in SCRAMJET engine discourse (supersonic ramjet combustion). Inventive air expiratory engines as the SCRAMJET motor were designed based on the knowledge of supersonic combination, self-ignition, and fire. These aero-thermo-motor processes are particularly hard to incorporate in a scramjet engine. Tribal grid converter, 3D Euler, and Navier-Stoke algorithm technologies were presented using complex analytical and mechanical models. A series of Mach estimates, the angle of attacks, was applied to various complicated aerodynamic flows for this indigenous programmed. CFD approaches are being developed as an effective method for manufacturing aerospace vehicles. Important science and computer studies also concentrate on injector analysis, which can contribute to rapid air and fuel blending and ignition. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The proper orthogonal decomposition-Galerkin method (PGM) is an effective reduced-order method, which can predict in-situ physical fields rapidly and accurately based on a series of ex-situ results. However, the PGM suffers from difficulties in the application to the complex flow with openings and turbulence. This study preliminarily explores the coupling algorithm of the PGM and the finite volume method (FVM) to avoid these difficulties. A temperature simulation for an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module is selected as an example for exhibition. The PGM is adopted to calculate the temperature field of the chip and substrate while the FVM is adopted to calculate the temperature fields of the external heat transfer. Moreover, the PGM and FVM performed in different computational domains are coupled at the interface. Two coupling algorithms are analyzed: (1) D-D (Dirichlet-Dirichlet): the temperatures at the interface are selected as the transmission information. (2) D-N (Dirichlet-Neumann): the temperature and the heat flux at the interface are selected as the transmission information. Results suggest that both the above coupling methods can obtain a continuous temperature field within the maximum deviation of 0.0045 degrees C compared with the results calculated by the FVM on the entire computational domain. The D-N coupling algorithm with additional source term method achieves the best convergence.

The spread of the coronavirus has been the focus the world's attention. The government has issued a new regulation on the coronavirus that obligates the entire community to always wear a face mask and implement social distancing to prevent the spread of viruses. These issues have been impacted by an increase in the use of face masks throughout the world and in Indonesia. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggested using medical face masks. Furthermore, in the health care sector, the possible loading of pathogens in sub-micrometer sizes and properties such as splash resistance and the ability to prevent infection by reducing the concentration of inhaled particulates has created limitations on the types of face masks that can be used. Therefore it is necessary to design a face mask sterilizer device that can extend the life span of masks, thereby decreasing the masks consumption. An investigation on mask sterilizer devices based on heat pipes and thermoelectrics was conducted in this study. The objective of this study was to investigate the thermal performance of the mask sterilizer device. The method used was an experimental method using variations in the input voltage on the thermoelectric, namely 9 V, 10 V, and 11 V, and the microcontroller was also adjusted to control the temperature by 70 ℃, 80 ℃, and 90 ℃. The results showed that the thermoelectrics can generate heat with a temperature difference between the hot side and the cold side that can reach 80.11 ℃. In terms of voltage, the greater voltage that was given led to a greater resulting temperature of the sterilization device and reduced the amount of time to achieve the minimum sterilization temperature. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This study optimizes and determines effect of HVOF (High-velocity oxygen fuel) spraying parameters to porosity of the WC-12Co coatings sprayed on inner cylindrical surface of S40C steel pipe. The studied spraying parameters include: Spray distance (L);Powder feed rate (P);Surface velocity of substrate (V). experimental parameters using Taguchi L9 orthogonal design. The results determined optimal spraying parameters L3 = 0.3 m;P2 = 26 ***−1;V2 = 0.15 m.s−1) for the minimum coating porosity with 1.19%. Effect of spraying parameters on porosity is L (46%) > V (34.1%) > P (14.2%). An experimental function for the relationships of porosity with spraying parameters was built to evaluate of influence of research spraying parameters on porosity. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Effusion cooling represents the state-of-the-art cooling methodology for liners in modern gas turbine engine combustors. Advanced combustion techniques in aero engines require highly effective effusion cooling schemes for the combustor liner to protect it from extremely hot gases by consuming a minimum amount of air for cooling. The primary intention behind the present study is to find the best cooling performance for a particular phase of flight. The phase of flight considered are idle (DR = 1.2), takeoff (DR = 5) and cruise (DR = 5). The combustor liner is modeled as a flat plate with 72 coolant holes with the hole diameter d = 2 mm, with three different inclination angles α =20°, 30°, 40° and along the streamwise direction the pitch to diameter ratio of 4 is chosen. The mainstream conditions are maintained with the inlet velocity of 24 m/s, the temperatures as 361 k, 750 k and 1500 k. The coolant to mainstream blowing ratios are maintained at 1, 2 and 3, and the coolant temperature is 300 k. Area averaged cooling effectiveness is obtained by using CFD simulation using ANSYS® Fluent solver and the flow field is solved by using k-ϵ with an enhanced wall treatment turbulence model. The numerical results are validated with the experimental values available in the literature. The area averaged results showed that for a phase of flight the cooling effectiveness increases with an increased blowing ratio. The coolant film thickness increases as the blowing ratio is increased. The shallow coolant injection angle provided better cooling effectiveness. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper aims to improve the output voltage of solar panels by using graphene. The objective of this work is to analyze the absorption coefficient for improvisation in the efficiency of graphene. Various parameters viz. current density, absorption coefficient, wavelength of sun spectrum, Fermi and Dirac point level, and carrier generation rate have been computed and analyzed. The chosen parameters and their characteristics can demonstrate the necessity of solar energy by using graphene. GaAs is used as substrate and graphene layers are used to make junction and gate contact. The obtained graphs indicate that the power conversion efficiency of the solar panel is increased from 10.69 to 11.5%. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

N4-methylcytosine (4mC) is a very important epigenetic modification that regulates DNA expression, repair and replication. Traditional experimental methods for 4mC site detection are both time consuming and laborious. Therefore, the development of computational methods is necessary. But mining the internal information of DNA sequences remains a great challenge. In this paper, we propose a novel 4mC deep learning prediction method, named 4mCFSNet. Firstly, we encode the sequences using one-hot. Secondly, we construct multi-scale fusion modules to fully extract biological sequence information by overlapping multi-scale channel input features. Finally, we use fully connected layers and class weights for multi-species classification prediction. The average MCC of our proposed method on six species is about 2% higher than the optimal method, and the average ACC is about 1% higher. © 2023 IOS Press. All rights reserved.
