Dental caries is a widespread health problem that can probably result to dental pulp as well as root apical infection. For patients to experience less pain, dental caries must be treated promptly and effectively. Conventional carious lesions diagnose techniques, such as naked-eye identification and panoramic radiograph evaluations, depends on qualified doctors, which can lead to misidentification and take a long time. This paper works on semantic segmentation using Improved Deeplab V3,a new deep learning design, to describe different carious lesions degrees from radiographic images. Semantic segmentation is analysis and classification of each pixel into multiple classes (labels). We begin by gathering a high-quality panoramic radiograph dataset of 2075 well-delineated caries, such as narrow, modest, and depth caries. The Deeplab V3network is then built with an additional channel and spatial attenuation module for segmenting these three types of caries from oral panoramic images. Hereafter, we make a comparison of improved DeeplabV3's semantic segmentation results with that of other previous methods. experimental studies demonstrate that our method can segment different stages of caries with a mean Dice coefficient of 94.7% and an accuracy of 94.01 %. © 2023 IEEE.

With the increasing popularity of electronic products and more and more people with excessive eye use, the incidence of ophthalmic diseases is increasing year by year, of which cataract is the world's first blinding ophthalmic diseases, ultrasonic emulsification cataract aspiration is the main method of treatment of cataracts, and the continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis is one of the most important step, the effectiveness of continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis has a bearing on the effect of the subsequent surgery. The current method of assessing the capsulorhexis results still has a lot of shortcomings, mainly relying on the doctor's observation to assess, which is easy to be affected by disturbing factors, for this reason, we proposed a deep learning-based segmentation model of capsulorhexis results in order to achieve the quantitative assessment of capsulorhexis results, the segmentation model of capsulorhexis results is based on the construction of the U-Net and SegFormer, and at the same time we use the segmentation results to perform quantitative calculations to evaluate capsulorhexis results. The experimental results show that our proposed model has a good effect compared with other methods, MIoU and MPA reach 71.16% and 85.41%, so this method can achieve better evaluation of capsulorhexis results. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a possible functional geometric specification for a lifting airfoil including the definition of functional tolerance limits (tolerance synthesis) and an associated inspection procedure. The proposed specification scheme is derived from the analogy between the mating of the airfoil with a fluid field and the consolidated example of the mating of a prismatic element in its site. The airfoil thickness is defined as a non-constant size with non-constant tolerances and the airfoil shape is prescribed with a non-constant profile of a line tolerance applied to the median airfoil line. The tolerance synthesis is based on XFLR5 software and computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The inspection procedure uses the data acquired with a laser probe elaborated in Geomagic Wrap, GOM inspect and MATLAB. The overall process has been applied to a case study allowing to define limits and proposing a set of possible improvements regarding, particularly, the geometric specification of the leading and trailing edges of the airfoil. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The energy consumption of communication base stations has been increasing, while energy conservation has become a focal point, especially for the air conditioning systems of these stations, which consume a significant amount of energy. In cold regions, the optimization of refrigeration systems for communication base stations is a crucial task. However, due to the complexity of environmental conditions and seasonal variations, traditional control methods often struggle to achieve optimal results. This study aims to improve the performance of communication base station refrigeration systems using fuzzy systems. A distributed cooling system, utilizing an object-oriented cooling concept, is proposed as a novel solution that can directly provide cooling to communication equipment. Compared to conventional methods, distributed cooling based on fuzzy systems optimizes the thermal field distribution within the base station, adjusting the operating parameters of the refrigeration system to achieve higher energy efficiency and performance optimization. experimental results show that, under certain conditions, the optimal refrigerant charge rate of the system can be determined through experimentation. In field tests, the separated heat pipe system significantly improved temperature variations within the base station. Analysis of experimental data reveals varying levels of energy savings in different regions, but overall energy savings are still significant. The results indicate that control strategies based on fuzzy systems can significantly enhance the performance of communication base station refrigeration systems, holding significant application prospects in cold regions. © 2024 SPIE.

Underwater image detection plays a vital role in various marine applications such as oceanography, underwater robotics, and environmental monitoring. The challenges of underwater imaging, such as low visibility, distortion, and noise due to water quality and lighting conditions, make effective detection techniques crucial. This paper proposes an underwater image detection approach using the YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once version 8) model, a state-of-the-art deep learning architecture known for its efficiency in real-time object detection tasks. YOLOv8's ability to balance high accuracy and computational efficiency is leveraged to detect various objects in underwater environments, addressing challenges like water turbidity and poor lighting. A dataset of underwater images with annotated objects is used to train the model, evaluating its accuracy, speed, and robustness to distortions. experimental results demonstrate that YOLOv8 outperforms traditional methods in detecting underwater objects with mAP50 of 80% and faster inference times, making it a promising solution for real-time underwater image analysis in diverse applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Diffuser performance prediction plays a crucial role in high-altitude simulation test of rocket engines. This paper presents a study focused on calculating and applying the cylindrical diffuser’s starting performance, aiming to provide a straightforward and efficient approach for calculating the starting characteristic curve, which reveals the relationship between combustion chamber pressure ratio and vacuum chamber pressure ratio. The curve can be understood as representing three operational stages, consisting of 4 distinct feature points. To achieve this, a semi-empirical approach is proposed, which combines one-dimensional flow formulas with a fitting formula derived from the existing test data. By validating the starting characteristic curves for three different groups of engine nozzles and cylindrical diffusers, the computational results demonstrate good agreement with experimental results, with a margin of error of 7.1%, 12.9%, and 16.9%, respectively. For most common rocket engines with expansion ratios below 60, the starting characteristic curves of the cylindrical diffusers can be quickly obtained by using the proposed 4-point method. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

This work investigates the coefficient of discharge of venturimeter by experimental and computational technique. The effect of flow rate on coefficient of discharge is studied using experimental technique, whereas, the variation of velocity and pressure of flow along the venturimeter is studied computationally using SolidWorks 2016. The experimental setup is developed by installing a venturimeter inside a pipe by cutting small part of the pipe. The accuracy of venturimeter for flow measurement mainly depends upon convergence angle, divergence angle, surface profile, surface finish, throat length, etc. From the literature survey, it has been found that 12°–20° of convergence angle, 4°–7° of divergence angle and parabolic profile is a better choice. In the present work, the venturimeter has been designed in three parts for the ease of manufacturing. Furthermore, all of the three parts, made from PVC material, have been assembled to develop the testing facility for experimentation. Through experimentation, the coefficient of discharge is calculated. It was observed that the coefficient of discharge increases with increase in flow rate. From the computational analysis, it has been found that there is no backflow and eddy formation for the designed venturimeter which validates the accuracy of the design. This study presents an innovative integration of Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance early detection and management of gastrointestinal disorders. The methodology encompasses data preprocessing, feature selection, model development, and continuous monitoring for timely intervention. Preprocessing involves standardization and normalization to ensure consistent feature scaling and distribution. Addressing missing values and outliers is achieved using suitable methods such as mean imputation and robust statistical techniques. Feature selection methods, including Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), aid in identifying the most informative features associated with gastrointestinal disorders. Support Vector Machines (SVM) excels in binary classification, distinguishing healthy individuals from those with gastrointestinal disorders. Deep Neural Network (DNN) is employed for non-linear feature representation and classification. In conclusion, the proposed method showcased superior performance in critical parameters when compared to traditional methodologies. Its enhanced accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and computational efficiency position it as a promising approach in the domain of Data Mining and AI for early detection and management of gastrointestinal disorders. This innovation holds potential for significant advancements, promising improved healthcare outcomes and better lives for individuals suffering from gastrointestinal disorders. © 2023 IEEE.

The conical nozzle serves as the energy conversion device in the thrust vector control system of a solid rocket engine. The turbulent flow of high-temperature and high-speed gas inside the nozzle poses challenges for analytical computation of its flow field characteristics, which cannot be accurately measured through experimental means. To address this, a simulated hot firing test of the nozzle was conducted, where the entrance pressure and temperature were set as boundary conditions. Utilizing the computational dynamic mesh partitioning technique and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) finite volume method, a three-dimensional numerical model of the nozzle's flow field during oscillation was established. The RNG k-ϵ turbulent model with two equations was employed to compute and analyze the distribution of wall pressure, velocity, Mach number, and temperature under different oscillation angles and entrance pressure conditions. The influence of positive shock waves on the nozzle, particularly in the over-expanded operating state, was also investigated. These analyses aimed to validate the rationality of the nozzle's internal surface design and provide essential data for the structural design of the thrust vector control system. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the absence of domestic automotive exhaust measurement methods, this paper, based on the principle of condensation nucleus growth counting, has developed a nanoparticle counter suitable for automotive exhaust detection. The paper incorporates the peak value counting method and conducts comparative experiments between different counting methods of the nanoparticle counter and the results obtained by electrostatic counting, as well as parallel experiments with a TSI CPC. The following results were obtained: (1) Compared to the traditional rising edge counting method, the peak value counting method significantly improves counting accuracy. (2) When the concentration is below 12, 500 P/cc, the peak value counting method can count more particle signals. (3) In the testing of complex particle clusters in automotive exhaust, the nanoparticle counter can be used for measuring automotive exhaust emissions. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
