image segmentation is one of the classic methods of image signal processing. It is widely used in the industrial inspection, public security, judicial, and so on. image segmentation using area has a special meaning to distinguish the different areas, and each area has consistency to ensure that each area is the intersection of each other. Based on the threshold and region extraction as the foothold, this paper introduces three typical image segmentation method based on threshold (iterative method global threshold segmentation, Otsu method global threshold segmentation, local threshold segmentation), and comparison of results by using computer simulation show the different of these three methods.

With the development of mobile Internet technology, Android smart phones is gradually integrated into people's lives, and become important information terminal. Short-range wireless communication (NFC) is one of the technologies for use in access control systems, this kind of short-distance wireless communication standard can be achieved within a few centimeters of data exchange between devices. NFC is also in full compliance with ISO standards for management of contactless smart card, which is a notable feature of it an ideal platform. Android smartphones are gradually replace most of the commonly used tools in our lives, such as cameras, maps and so on, and NFC functionality based on the Android platform will gradually replace the life of cash payments and IC card access control system, NFC has become an important trend of development of intelligent access control system. This design from two aspects of hardware and software to take on Android platform-based NFC function plays an important role in access control systems. This design is based on the Android phone's NFC features using single-chip computer system relays, electromagnetic locks, smart home functions, NFC contactless door way humans bring more convenience, farewell forgot to bring my keys at home will not be suffering. © 2018 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The innovations and applications in automation, robotics and computer vision are enhanced by the image processing techniques such as object detection, face recognition, image compression etc. This work uses line detection by line Hough transform (LHT). LHT is most efficient technique, which give clear output for a given edge detected image even when there is an appreciable noise present. Normally the LHT requires a large memory for rho and theta calculations. Therefore to reduce the memory requirements rho and theta calculations are implemented with COrdIC Algorithm based functional units. A MATLAB model of LHT with variable word length is developed. The number of bits used to represent the pixel values in edge detected image are varied from 1o Bits to 2o Bits; to trade off the quality of edge detection and time required. This simulation reveals that time for 1o bits is 18.1o29s, 15 bits is 18.2982s and for 2o bits is 19.22s. Here the minimum word length of 1o bits is considered and the same architecture is implemented in TSMC 9onm technology. This requires 4174 MB memory and 5ms as computation time compared to 8384 MB and 2ms. So from the COrdIC based LHT uses lesser memory and relatively longer computation time than the previous implementations.

The wheal, produced by tuberculin skin tests, was identified by nurses through marking its edges. Four marks will be made and these will be measured - the greatest length of each mark to another mark is considered the size of the wheal. An attempt to imitate the procedure was done by designing a system that can measure the marked sides of the wheal. The implemented system uses an algorithm which locates the four marks in an image. These four marks were measured using the Euclidean distance to determine the distance between each other. Among the 6 edges of the four marks, the one with the greatest length is considered the size of the wheal. Using a scale with a defined size, the pixel value of the greatest length was converted in millimeters. The results showed that the system's measurement is always less than the measurement of the nurse. With an accuracy of 91.53% for the test data, the researcher was able to implement a system that can facilitate in reading the results of tuberculin skin test.

Owing to the smart applications of human-computer interaction (HCI), the hand posture and gesture recognition technologies have acquired more and more attentions recently. In this work, the 2D low-complexity hand gesture identification technology is proposed based on 3D depth information. The proposed design overcomes the difficulties to separate the integrated palm region from the complex background. First, the proposed system uses the 3D depth camera to obtain the depth information. Then the system uses the depth image of the palm area to extract the contour and features of hand. By the contour and features of hand from geometric relationship, the proposed design recognizes several useful hand postures and gestures effectively. In our experiments, the recognition accuracy of hand gestures can be up to 98%. By implementing with the 4-core PC (Intel i7-4720, 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM), the average processing speed is up to 15 frames per second.

image dehazing is a classic problem in computer vision. Most traditional methods use human-engineered features, such as dark channel prior, for dehazing. Recently, deep learning based approaches have been developed to solve this problem, but most of them are not end-to-end. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end learning method. This network consists of three parts to, respectively, estimate the transmission map, predict the global atmospheric light, and perform dehazing based on the estimated parameters. In order to train this network, we use Virtual KITTI dataset and NYU depth dataset to synthesize a training set composed of haze images and their corresponding transmission maps and global atmospheric light. Experiments demonstrate that our approach can obtain good performance on both synthetic and real haze images;moreover, the dehazed images have natural color and light contrast.

A machine learning method was used to establish a diagnostic model of potassium nutrition for rice obtained from image processing techniques. In this study, super hybrid rice "Liangyoupeijiu" was used as experimental object to set up four kinds of rice cultivation experiments at different potassium fertilization levels, the image data of a total of 1920 groups of the 1st leaves and the 2nd leaves, the 3rd leaves, and their corresponding sheaths were obtained by scanning with a scanner. Nineteen rice characteristic indexes were obtained. Support vector machine was used to establish the diagnostic model of potassium nutrition in nineteen rice characteristic indexes, and to diagnose and identify the potassium nutrition in rice. The experimental results show that the identification method based on image processing and SVM is suitable for the diagnosis of potassium nutrition of the 3rd leaves in rice young panicle differentiation stage with an accuracy of 89%, which provides a reliable and universal method for studying the recognition of potassium nutrition in rice and can meet the needs of agronomic research.

The application of machine vision to industrial robots is a hot topic in robot research nowadays. A welding robot with machine vision had been developed, which is convenient and flexible to reach the welding point with six degrees-of-freedom (DOF) manipulator, while the singularity of its movement trail is prevented, and the stability of the mechanism had been fully guaranteed. As the precise industry camera can capture the optical feature of the workpiece to reflect in the camera's CCD lens, the workpiece is identified and located through a visual pattern recognition algorithm based on gray scale processing, on the gradient direction of edge pixel or on geometric element so that high-speed visual acquisition, image preprocessing, feature extraction and recognition, target location are integrated and hardware processing power is improved. Another task is to plan control strategy of control system, and the upper computer software is programmed in order that multi-axis motion trajectory is optimized and servo control is accomplished. Finally, prototype was developed and validation experiments show that the welding robot has high stability, high efficiency, high precision, even if welding joints are random and workpiece contour is irregular.

High precision center detection of X-markers is required in many applications such as navigation surgery systems and camera calibration. Hough transform is a preferable tool for extracting intersecting lines in an image, which leads to center detection. In this paper, we detect X-marker centers by the sub-pixel precision, using Hough transform. Switching to Hough space helps us to apply processes like thresholding, filtering and weighted averaging on coordinates. The algorithm involves two parameters `Hough Size' and `Filter Size' required to be adjusted for best performance of the algorithm. A dataset of 900 images is used and best performance is achieved by values of 180 and 23 for the above parameters, respectively. Using this setting, 90.8% of the centers are detected successfully by the sub-pixel precision. The average distance between detected centers and reference centers is 0.51 pixels. This suggests that the proposed algorithm has the potential to be utilized for sub-pixel marker detection.

Often in law enforcement and forensic application it is needed to match scanned facial image with a digital face image. This is because in many scenario, non-digital face images are obtained from the crime scene, news articles etc. that are needed to be identified. Non-digital face images are first scanned and then enhanced to match against the database. Challenges arrives because of poor quality of non-digital image, artifacts introduced in scanning process and high saturation etc. therefore matching becomes difficult. The methods used in literature involve specialized hand crafted pre-processing. In our paper, we propose an automated way of matching by using Siamese networks. The proposed method have been able to achieve an EER of 2.346% that is better than the current state-of-the-art.
