Watermarking is a useful technique for copyright management. It is widely used in various types of digital content management application of grayscale and colour images. But as of now, there has been no method to watermark for a grayscale image using a colour image. In this paper, a unique watermarking for the grayscale image scheme in the transform domain has been proposed. The presented technique is suitable for the digital rights and security management of the diagnostic medical images in the online database. The proposed watermarking method is composed of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). Additionally, we have used the Firefly Algorithm (FA) to compute appropriate scaling factor to achieve higher perceptibility and robustness. Performance metrics such as PSNR, SSIM, and NCC are used to evaluate the technique. Experimental analysis shows that the proposed technique is 40-45% improved over the existing methods and almost 50% watermark is recoverable under different image processing attacks proving robustness of the technique.

There is no alternative of visual percepts to brain for accomplishing any easy to complex problem solution. Sustaining in the everyday world environment demands a lot from visual information processing of brain. But a large number of the human being is devoid of the blessings of visual percepts due to biological or accidental causes. This paper presents a critique on vision aided systems and suggests an inexpensive alternative to develop an aided system for visually impaired persons. We propose a real-time solution which utilizes image processing methodology and low cost hardware to support the visually impaired for every day path navigation and obstacle avoidance. A head mounted camera processes the image to identify plausible path and obstacle. The identified path direction and obstacle are converted into pre-defined vocabularies with audio annotation output to the physically challenged people's ears. This method has been tested over varying environmental conditions and is found to be effective for visually impaired navigation.

Epiretinal prosthesis is a biomedical implant technology currently being developed around the world in hopes of restoring useful vision for patients suffering from retinal degenerative diseases such as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). Epiretinal Prosthesis System (EPS) consists of four parts that includes Body Worn image Processor (BWIP), Retinal Implantable Receiver Stimulator (RIRS), wireless telemetry and electrode array. images are captured by BWIP's camera and encoded into a 1 Mbps bit stream by BWIP. The bit stream is modulated on 8.195 MHz carrier and transmitted serially to RIRS through wireless telemetry. RIRS converts the bit stream into electrical pulses and drives 1024 electrode array to stimulate the survival parts of retina electrically with visual cues for understanding the video picture/image. This paper presents the design of flexible high resolution 1024- electrode embedded computer based EPS using embedded computer based efficient control algorithms for better visual prediction. Finally, the integrity of the EPS has been verified visually through video display on LCD/LED array. The experimental results of EPS are enumerated for the object of human face using 1024-electrode/pixel LED array.

With the development of mobile Internet technology, Android smart phones is gradually integrated into people's lives, and become important information terminal. Short-range wireless communication (NFC) is one of the technologies for use in access control systems, this kind of short-distance wireless communication standard can be achieved within a few centimeters of data exchange between devices. NFC is also in full compliance with ISO standards for management of contactless smart card, which is a notable feature of it an ideal platform. Android smartphones are gradually replace most of the commonly used tools in our lives, such as cameras, maps and so on, and NFC functionality based on the Android platform will gradually replace the life of cash payments and IC card access control system, NFC has become an important trend of development of intelligent access control system. This design from two aspects of hardware and software to take on Android platform-based NFC function plays an important role in access control systems. Contactless, painless and radiation-free thermal imaging technique is one of the preferred screening modalities for detection of breast cancer. However, poor signal to noise ratio and the inexorable need to preserve edges defining cancer cells and normal cells, make the segmentation process difficult and hence unsuitable for computer aided diagnosis of breast cancer. This work uses a modified version of level-set called marker-controlled level-set for segmentation along with pre-processing. This paper presents key findings from a research conducted on the appraisal of two promising techniques, for the detection of breast cancer: a) marker-controlled Level-set segmentation of anisotropic diffusion filtered preprocessed image versus b) Segmentation using marker-controlled level-set on a Gaussian-filtered image. The proposed method was carried out on images from an online database with samples collected from women of varying breast characteristics. It was observed that the breast was able to be segmented out from the background by adjustment of the markers. From the results, it was observed that as a pre-processing technique, anisotropic filtering with level-set segmentation, preserved the edges more effectively than Gaussian filtering. Segmented image, by application of anisotropic filtering was found to be more suitable for feature extraction, enabling automated computer aided diagnosis of breast cancer.

Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. Diseases in crops are causing huge loss to the economy. Only early detection can reduce these losses. Manual detection of the diseases is not feasible. Automated detection of plants diseases using image processing techniques would help farmers in earlier detection and thus prevent huge losses. Maize is an important commercial cereal crop of the world. The aim of this study is the detection of common fungal diseases, common rust, and northern leaf blight in maize leaf. The proposed system aims at early detection and further classification of diseases into common rust, northern leaf blight, multiple diseases, or healthy using first-order histogram features and Haar wavelet features based on GLCM features. Two classifiers, namely, k-NN and SVM are considered for the study. The highest accuracy of 85% is obtained with k-NN for k = 5 and accuracy obtained with SVM-based classification is 88%. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the increase of image data scale, a faster and more efficient image acquisition and processing system is needed. FPGA has good parallel performance, which is very suitable for algorithms dealing with basic parallel features, and can greatly improve the efficiency of image acquisition and processing system. Aiming at the problem of FPGA image acquisition, processing and display, this paper carries out the design of real-time image acquisition system, which has the function of real-time display after processing the acquired image. In this paper, the chip of EP4CE6F17C8 of Cyclone IV series is used, the CMOS camera is OV5640 and the monitor is VAG. After full experimental verification, the system is extensible, the later expansion goal can not be achieved without the cooperation of Bluetooth and other facilities, with the role of recognizing and positioning license plates, obviously this series of application prospects are considerable; With flexibility, can customize the algorithm for optimization; Low cost a series of advantages.

Keratoconus is a degenerative ocular pathology characterized by the thinning of the cornea, thus affecting many people around the world since this corneal ectasia causes a deformation of the corneal curvature that leads to astigmatism and, in more severe cases, to blindness. Treating physicians use non-invasive instruments, such is the case of Pentacam®, which takes images of the cornea, both the topography and the profile of the cornea, which allows them to diagnose, evaluate and treat this disease;this is known as morphological characterization of the cornea. On the other hand, Berlin/Ambrosio analysis helps in the identification and subsequent diagnosis since this analysis uses a mathematical model of linear progression, which identifies the different curves with the severity of the disease. Therefore, the aim of this study is to use the images provided by Pentacam®, Berlin/Ambrosio analysis, and vision parameters in a convolutional neural network to evaluate if this disparity could be used to help with the diagnosis of keratoconus and, consequently, generate a more precise and optimal method in the diagnosis of keratoconus. As a result, the processing and comparison of the images and the parameters allowed a 10% increase in the results of specificity and sensitivity of the mean and severe stages when combining tools (corneal profile and vision parameters) in the CNN reaching ranges of 90 to 95%. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that in the early-stage study, its improvement was around 20% in specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

It is challenging to efficiently deploy deep learning models on resource-constrained hardware devices (e.g., mobile and IoT devices) with strict efficiency constraints (e.g., latency, energy consumption). We employ Proxyless Neural Architecture Search (ProxylessNAS) to auto design compact and specialized neural network architectures for the target hardware platform. ProxylessNAS makes latency differentiable, so we can optimize not only accuracy but also latency by gradient descent. Such direct optimization saves the search cost by 200× compared to conventional neural architecture search methods. Our work is followed by quantization-aware fine-tuning to further boost efficiency. In the Low Power image Recognition Competition at CVPR'19, our solution won the 3rd place on the task of Real-Time image Classification (online track).
