An algorithm is described for reconstructing the surface shape of a non-rigid transparent object, such as water, from the apparent motion of the observed pattern. This algorithm is based on the optical and statistical analysis of the distortions. It consists of the following parts: (1) extraction of optical flow, (2) averaging of each point trajectory obtained from the optical flow sequence, (3) calculation of the surface normal using optical characteristics, and (4) reconstruction of the surface. The algorithm is applied to synthetic and real images to demonstrate its performance.

These concepts provide solutions not only restricted to the engineering domain but also across the various domains. In this article, the proposed framework mainly deals with the scenario of the generation of face masks in 3D view with the aid of selfie images using computervision and imageprocessing methodologies. The proposed framework consists of two kinds of algorithms that generate face mak with the aid of single and multiple images respectively. Those adaptive algorithms are discussed along with their implementation. The adaptive algorithm utilized for multiple image input names as MIIO3D and the adaptive algorithm for single image input named as SIIO3D implementation for the construction of an efficient 3D face mask. The input images considered are from real-time aspects. Data visualization and their comparisons made with the aid of Tableau.

The authors develop previous theories of the analysis of deformation of apparent contours under viewer motion. Earlier results showing how surface curvature can be inferred from acceleration of image features are generalized for arbitrary viewer motion and perspective projection. It is shown that relative image acceleration, based on parallax measurements, is robust to uncertainties in robot motion. The theory has been implemented and extensively tested in a real-time (15 frames per second) tracking system based on deformable contours (snakes). It is shown that focusing attention by means of snakes allows rapid, robust computation of surface curvature, including discrimination of extremal and occluding contours.

Seam pucker evaluation plays a very important role in the garments manufacturing industry. At present, seam puckers are usually evaluated by human inspectors, which is subjective, unreliable and time-consuming. With the developments of imageprocessing and pattern recognition technologies, an automatic vision-based seam pucker evaluation system becomes possible. This paper presents a new approach based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to establish the relationship between seam pucker grades and textural features of seam pucker images. The evaluation procedure is performed in two stages: features extraction with the co-occurrence matrix approach, and classification with ANFIS. Experimental results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed ANFIS-based method.

In the quantitative assessment on the success of treatment, the automatic detection of acne pixels from digital color images would be helpful. In this paper, we proposed an automatic acne detection method through the processing of facial images taken by the smartphone based on the imageprocessing. In this approach, the RGB image is transformed into various color spaces based on the differences between features of each acne lesion type. This method has been used the a* channel of the CIELab color space to detect the inflammatory acne (papules and pustules). The S channel of HSV color space was used to detect the non-inflammatory acne (whiteheads and blackheads). A multi-level threshold is then used to make acne extraction and blob detection. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure is shown by experimental results. We showed the possibility of detecting 4 types of acne lesions (whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules) with different skin colors and different smartphones in this experiment by applying a combination of several color spaces. The result shows a recall of about 85.71% in detecting different acne types at a reasonable processing time. This is the remise to help doctors to assess the level of acne on the patient's face in an effective and time-saving way.

This work considers the problem of detecting nuclei in H&E stained images. The high intra-class and inter-image variability of nuclei of the images itself calls for a more robust method that is able to handle this high variability. Recently, deep learning has become the most popular method in computervision with many systems achieving state-of-the-art results for a wide array tasks. However, as a trade-off, deep learning methods require tons of data and computational resources that some may not posses. Thus, this work proposes a traditional computervision pipeline along with TAG, a local feature-based approach that combines texture, appearance, and gradient features which is used in the task of pixel-per-pixel prediction in the virtue of semantic segmentation. Based from the results, the method was shown to be effective despite the challenges of high variability in the dataset.

A binocular stereo vision system developed in this papers is described. After preprocessing the aerial image pairs and resampling them along epipolar line, our system uses an area-based hierarchical matching method to find corresponding points. Utilizing absolute orientation, the coordinates of matching points and their parallaxes acquired through stereo matching are converted to actual position and altitude. The final results of the system are recovered surface and Digital Elevation Model (DEM).
